I'm very happy, because these are one of those classic games (considered rarities within the RPG genre) that I've been waiting for so long, ever since the remasters and remakes started. Plus it will be multiplatform, so that many people can enjoy old school RPG games.
Great video, David. One slip up though... you had it backwards with Lucia when describing the 2nd Lunar game. She's from the BLUE Star (Earth), and travels to the Silver Star (Moon). She's called "Lucia of the Blue Star" throughout the game as well.
If I remember right (and it's been a long freaking time since I played through the games), the reason people are on Lunar, the silver star (aka the moon) is that the blue star (the actual planet as opposed to the moon) became uninhabitable through war or an ecological disaster.
This is the best news I’ve heard in a long time! I was literally thinking the other day how amazing this would be and wondering whether it would ever be remastered! What a time to be alive!! It’s almost like we’re living through a renaissance of the golden age of jrpgs!! Now I know how it must have felt to live in Italy during the 15th and 16th century!
This is HUGE. Ghaleon is no joke one of the greatest video game villains and characters of all time! Gonna be quite the spring with this and the Suikoden remasters coming out at the same time. Been dying for a Lunar 2 remake and I'm getting emotional at the thought of getting my son into this series.
I remember being so angry at Ghaleon when i was a little kid. He robbed me of my favorite healer and woop my ass for years. As i grew older and wiser i eventually won.
Do it as a collection, Alundra 2 deserves to be saved from purgatory even if it's not as good as the first. _Also let's do Threads of Fate, Bushido Blade, and Saga Frontier 2 while we're at it~_ 😳
Agreed. I'm actually playing through it again now on a GKD Pixel. But that was one of my favorite PSX games back in the day. It was the best "Zelda" game besides A Link to the Past for a long time.
As someone that played and loved these as a kid the news of a remaster is fantastic news! Now the two series of games that need a remaster on top of these are Breath of Fire and Arc the Lad. These three series of games were my go-to games when I wasn't playing Final Fantasy, Legends of the Dragoon or Xenogears.
I missed the Sony State of Play, saw the Japanese trailer for this collection just now and IMMEDIATELY came here to see you covering it (because I knew you would've) because I knew you'd be as excited as I am and I wanted to bask in that glow. Cannot frickin' wait!!
I have them in PSX, keep them like a treasure, but i'm supporting this by buying this collection on Steam, playing on the Steam Deck classics like these is so cool being portable.
The anime cutscenes look so much better than the compressed versions on PS1. The trailer song uses Working Design's localization. Also, nice flex with the Lucia pendant. I too cherish my Lunar 2 box set.
Thank goodness for you being a fan of this series, cause I didn't know about this news until I came across this video! I love both these games, and had been begging for Lunar 2 to get some form of re-release. This made my day, and will definitely be a day 1 purchase!

@@oneprojekt Well in part 2, lots of people blindly followed the Cult of Athena which led to a lot a shenanigans occurring. I wonder if the change in motivation was to avoid people thinking maybe that the villain was right for questioning this blind devotion.
Dude I was just made a comment about wishing it included the Sega CD routes but I would take the inclusion of the Sega CD with the remake too. Likewise with Lunar 2. In Lunar 1 early in the game there was a big scene change if anybody recalls. In the trailer we saw the "night sky" but for those that know in the Sega CD ver there is no night sky. I'm only going to post about the combat systems for the PS1 games. The general idea with how it's set up with your fighters getting multiple attacks is that it's ideal for your mages to go first and "soften up" the enemies and then your fighters go in and clean up. For example: Lunar SSSC was so mind-numbingly dull. In regular fights, Nash uses Thunder Bomb, your fighters use regular attacks, and Mia contributes whatever she can. This only changes when Mia gets her Wind Staff and if you give Nash the Ghaleon's tear, so instead he attacks all enemies physically with his last two Bows (one has sleep and the other instant death). Bosses are fought exactly the same, Alex/Kyle power up and use their single target attack skill, Mia/Nash use their strongest magic, and Jessica heals. Neither game makes much use of positioning, so while do you have stuff like line attacks, they are barely used. Lunar EB introduces the much needed crest system, but it still wasn't implemented that well. The problem is you only have one mage (Lucia is uncontrollable and Leo is a fighter) and she's your slowest member. The game adjusted its difficulty for this, unless you put two Chiro crests on Lemina (making her always go first), and then the game is totally broken. Every enemy in the game until the final dungeon (and one specific dungeon where magic is useless) is weak to fire and ice. That makes the other elemental crests mostly a waste of time (and you can't even get fire and ice ones until the end of the game) aside from a dungeon where physical attacks don't work. Status ailment crests only target one enemy and are worthless, ones like Ogre/Archer don't seem to do what they say they do, and one of them you don't even get until the epilogue. My opinion, the crests should have been introduced in the first game. It would break up the monotony a bit and also help the creators work out the kinks. EB should have made Lemina (or Ronfar, I guess) the fastest, made the status ailment crests hit all enemies and put more emphasis on the elemental ones, that way you can experiment on what enemies are weak to, such as sleep, wind, etc. Instead of just finding two Chiro crests and breaking the game.
My childhood has returned again! I remember getting the box with all the bonuses like bound books with guides of the first section and the second with the necklace.
Back in the day... I used to post on a forum called RPGDreamers, and I remember rhe Lunar series being held in high regard. Though being from the UK, I never got to experience these games so I always felt I was missing out. But now I can finally experience the journey, super stoked!
As soon as I saw the announcement of this remaster I immediately thought about you and your love for the series. I recently finished the PSX version of the first game and fell in love with the series as well. The remaster looks fantastic, I hope both Grandia and Lunar come back to mainstream with new games.
I replayed these games over the past couple summers and they are always a joy. I hope they keep the translations and bringing back as many voice actors as possible is a MUST. I don't think I need a 3rd copy of these games, but I'm excited for others to finally be able to play them.
This takes me back and I've been wanting to replay it for awhile now. I remember helping Shotgunnova finalize a guide back on GameFAQs ages ago where we first met.
As soon as I saw Lunar I teared up, was completely unexpected but entirely welcome. My wife didn't realise how special this series is to me, it helped get me through some pretty tough times in highschool.
These two games are some of my favorites from the PS1 era! I’m super excited that they are bringing them to modern platforms. This is a day one purchase for sure and I’ll definitely double dip when the physical edition releases later on. I have such fond memories of this game.
Man oh man, I remember heading to the local game shop and picking up lunar and vay when I was a kid. That magical journey was so incredible to me. I hope they look at other titles like lunar here and give them the same treatment
this when i announced i teared up. im so happy this series is getting love. it is worth then as it is now. i will purchase for switch and ps5 and buy this for friends.
I was always interested in the Lunar games and my first one was Dragon Song.... Glad to see this collection is being released so I can play the good games in the series. :)
This video got me to hit the subscribe button! I love this series! It’s the game that got me into RPGs as a kid! I have that same pendant from the collector’s edition. Great video.
I was over the moon (pun intended) when I heard this news. Lunar was one of the games that made me a Jrpg fan back when I played it on Sega CD. Hard to find many games that match this series level of charm and I’m so excited to play them once again and happy for all the people who never had the opportunity to finally get to experience these classics!
I saw this on the Sony state of play, but I was so excited to get your take on it. Love that they are remastering and re-releasing this games. Such great stories and fun game play.
Normally with nostalgic remasters/remakes, I’m like “oh that’s cool I remember that,” have some fun playing it. This announcement though, it got me feeling unusually emotional. The combination of coming out of the blue after decades of dormancy, and the series having so much heart in its writing, story, and characters, makes this one something special.
The thing I regret losing track of over time is my ps1 rpg collection. I legit got goosebumps seeing this announced. Now, if they could throw us an Arc, the lad collection, I would also be over the moon.🎉
Working Designs needs to Make Lunar 3 and 4 for the Two Baby Dragon of Blue & Black because in Lunar 1 they did Nall the White Dragon and Lunar 2 Ruby the Red Dragon so I think making Lunar 3 for the Baby Blue Dragon and Lunar 4 for the Baby Black Dragon
Finally. As an European who is a Mega Drive owner for 33 years, it always broke my heart, that Lunar never came to my place. Not even the Playstation version. Hope this time, my waiting is finally over.
Fun fact (well, hazy memory) So I may be remembering this incorrectly but I'm sure my introduction to your chanel was a review of Lunar on PSP. It was probably about 15 years ago! I've been following you ever since! I remember ordering it online and watching your review on repeat waiting impatiently for it to arrive in the post!
Nice, it's like they're actually listening to us when we say we want these retro games available! Between the Lunars, Suikodens, and Dragon Quests, we're definitely getting our fill.
I rented these games from blockbuster as a kid and LOVED them. To play the original lunar again as a teen I had to buy a copy off ebay. Cost me like 70 dollars, got the bible like manual and cloth map. It was incredible.
Awesome video man!!! I absolutely love Lunar series and have all the versions (including the Saturn)! Like 👍🏼 412 is from me and you’ve got a new sub my man
I never had the opportunity to play lunar 2 but growing up I was able to play lunar 1 with the game boy advance and psp ports. Such a timeless classic.
I like the ideas of playing it on an actual console with some quality of life improvements. They allow you to use old school graphics, which I will. However, redoing the sound without an option to use the original voices and music is not good.
I will always have a special place in my heart for 16-bit era JRPG's. They are the very definition of the best years of my life. The remake years are upon us, and I am truly thankful for the development teams who are doing this.
I screamed when this showed up in the State of Play xD This was absolutely the highlight of the show (though I was also happy to see the Soul Reaver Collection too). I've never actually gotten to play Eternal Blue, and I've only experienced the original on GBA and PSP and loved both those versions, so I'm over the moon! I admit, I'll probably be getting this on multiple platforms xD
I remember my brother buying the first one for the PlayStation and we sat out for the second one…still angry I didn’t pick it up when I could have because one of my best friends in high school let me play a little of her copy and I felt as much in love with it as I did the first one. Will most definitely be looking for this collection when it comes out because I hold both games very near and dear to my heart (Jessica is still my favorite character)~
Still have my original copies of SSSC and EB, but a remaster with QoL improvements is practically a day 1 purchase. Now if only I could get the same treatment or a sequel/s to Skies of Arcadia and Legend of Dragoon.
I'm guessing comments with links are blocked out for you, because I wanted to share with you the big Lunar project I'm working on right now! I'm making a huge cross-stitch tapestry featuring the heroines of Lunar - Luna and Lucia - to hang in my office of our new home. I started it back just a week ago. ^_^ Lunar 2 is my favorite game ever ever, and color me absolutely surprised when I'm in the middle of stitching hearing that these games are being remastered. I'm not joking when I say that it brought me to tears, that announcement made me so happy.
Super excited for this. I’ve played 1 and 4. 1 was one of my favorite games growing up. I would always grind ice pups? For their tails? In the one area before you get to that first city so I had a bunch of money haha. 4 was disappointing lol
Super excited for this, brother. I've been a Lunar fan since the original Sega CD release, it's awesome to see them finally free from IP rights purgatory. Stay Awesome.
I've been an off and on gamer since I became an adult and didn't have a console of my own to take to college. Consequently the first consoles i owned myself were the Wii and PS2 then 3 shortly after. Consequently I missed the PS1 glory days of RPGs entirely (did experience the first golden era of the SNES though). To whit I'm just now playing FF7 for the first time ever because it went on sale on the Switch around my birthday (I know)! All of the above to say that I have never heard of Lunar but I bet I'd love it based on your review! Not just because your videos are always so entertaining ("Guess what, guess what, guess what? There's an EPILOGUE!") but that's why I keep watching!
The first Lunar cemented my love for JRPGs. Loved from the start to finish. This series will always have a special place in my heart.
Same here I still have both Playstation games
Lunar 1 and breath of fire 3 are the games that have me still hooked on rpgs
Excellent Lucia collectable necklace. Glad to see some folks love Lunar as much as I do.

Ghaleon even called Lucia "Princess of the Blue Star".

Finally released from Working Designs purgatory.
We want more WD games to come back.
Alundra collection would be dope
WD didn't own them, just the localization they did. Everyone hates WD but wed never have gotten a lot of legendary RPGs in the states without them.
I wonder who has the rights to the Growlanser 2 and 3 collecrion.
Imagine making a new localization being cheaper than buying the rights to the old one from Victor Ireland, who already made money on it.

Ooohhhh, right on. I loved these games when I was a kid on PS. Im getting this.
I screamed when this showed up in the State of Play xD
This was absolutely the highlight of the show (though I was also happy to see the Soul Reaver Collection too). I've never actually gotten to play Eternal Blue, and I've only experienced the original on GBA and PSP and loved both those versions, so I'm over the moon! I admit, I'll probably be getting this on multiple platforms xD
I feel like cutscenes and voice acting in a game really help immerse the player!! This game looks like it has amazing quality in all departments 🥰
Really nice surprise that this is happening. Loved the first one, and this'll be my first time with the second.
Definitely a highlight to bring back a beloved JRPG to modern consoles, can't wait to finish where I left off
Still have my original copies of SSSC and EB, but a remaster with QoL improvements is practically a day 1 purchase. Now if only I could get the same treatment or a sequel/s to Skies of Arcadia and Legend of Dragoon.
I love this series! My 40 year old backside was bawling watching this trailer
Lunar 2 is my favorite game ever ever, and color me absolutely surprised when I'm in the middle of stitching hearing that these games are being remastered. I'm not joking when I say that it brought me to tears, that announcement made me so happy.
I can't wait I love all this games rgps we need back had amazing story lines with hours of game play
Fingers crossed for a physical. This is a day one buy for me. I loved these games in middle school. Cant wait to revisit them with my kids
Oh I loved this series! Had them for Sega CD, PS1 remakes, and the spinoff. Ghaleon was so cool heh. I wonder who his VA will be...the OG was great!
Happy about this. Im hoping for a Legaia collection soon.
I didn't know there was an epilogue. Guess that gives me something to look forward to when revisiting Silver Star Story!
I have been wanting this for a long time. I am super excited. Day one purchase.
I loved the ps1 version. Ashley Parker Angel from the boyband O-Town voiced Alex!
This makes me happy I really enjoyed these games
2 of my favorite games of all time!! I own both PS versions complete. Happy to have an easier more assessable way to play these incredible games!!
