I just bought a blink doorbell for my new house. I'm definitely not an electrical person, so I stray away from all electrical work if at all possible, but you made it seem easy enough that I'm going to attempt it this weekend. Thank you for the tutorial!
Attaching the doorbell to the mount is a little difficult but once it locks into place it seems extremely sturdy. ua-cam.com/users/postUgkxxHZwMa8CsRjYhf9s4W8w0Dwm47uytWOp I replaced my regular doorbell with this and hard wired it in, using my existing wires and mechanical chime. It works perfect so far and integrates perfectly with my blink camera system. It also works seamlessly with Alexa
One thing all the tutorials online seem to miss out is the door bell still requires 2 AA batteries even when it's hard wired. The battery will need to be changed every 2 months depending on use, unless you use a module. Seems pointless hardwiring it imo. It becomes unresponsive when the batteries need changing
Yes, I was disappointed when I myself found out that the hardwire did not replace the need for batteries, but I do like that it still makes the old doorbell chime sound when rung. As for the battery life, at the time of this reply, I have not yet needed to change the batteries and the system is never turned off. And trust me, with all those ulta deliveries it gets a lot of use lol.
I found it to be most useful having my doorbell on the same system with the rest of the cameras. In this way, I just added the doorbell as I would another camera ─ no need for another sync module for a new system.
Thank you so much for your clear instructions. No one told me I needed to purchase a mount (separately) because I had attached my doorbell to an existing line. I have been trying for two weeks to figure out what I was doing wrong.
Thanks for getting to the point and not rambling as others do. Really appreciate this video. We already installed a floodlight version and a regular Camara. So far this really is the best and cheapest home security we found with good contrast.
Man thanks a bunch for this video, I'm about to hard wire mines, I hate reading instructions, I'd just rather watch a quick video and then knock it out lol.. Your video is exactly what I was looking for! Much Appreciated 🙌
Does it matter which way around you install the existing chime wires to the doorbell? All the videos seem to imply it doesn't matter but just wanted to ensure.
Great video but my blink doorbell has only 2 parts. A plate to screw to the wall which you connect the 2 wires too and the front doorbell. Maybe blink have already changed the model type? I didn’t know which wire connected to which screw. Red or white wire. Left or right? Update - followed the steps on my phone and it's installed. The video quality from the doorbell is amazing! the sound too! Love it!
The corner plate is an add on that you can get to help with the camera angle. If you don’t need it just mount the plate you have in the same matter. As for the wires the can be placed on either screw and it won’t mess up your install. Thanks for watching and your support!
Dude Where's my Doorbell? Thanks for the info. I've unboxed mine today and it's set up with my blink system. I just need to drill the holes and it's all good 👍
You can hear it in the background when I ring it. I wish I would have had the outside chime turnoff when I shot that but was still learning the ins and outs of the new system.
Can you adjust the indoor Chime to make it softer? Under Chime Power, it looks like I can only adjust up, not down. When I installed my Blink, I recall it was 18 starting out. Playing around it bit, and I actually want it softer now. I tried twice to increase, so now I'm stuck on 23.
Thanks for the video. The link you included was to a wedge. Do you have the link to the corner mount that you used in the video. I can't find the plate that you attached the wires to.
That plate comes with the doorbell itself, but the new style that has come out is a little different. If you have that one, we do have a video showing the install of it (called the 3 hole plate)
I think the batteries operate the camera and the wires only operate the inside doorbell. I have another brand doorbell and you cannot use a electronic door bell with it because it only operates mechanical doorbells due to the wires power coming from a transformer and my doorbell always has a buzz to it because the wires ate suppling power to run the doorbell button outside.
Great video! Thank you so much! Am thinking of putting one on my mom's house, since I already have other Blink cameras there. How often do you replace the batteries?
The batteries have held up well. I believe I’ve never changed the batteries since installing this unit (possibly changed once). It’s continually running, but just recently the doorbell itself crashed and they needed to send me a new one out.
If you use the hard wiring option, does it still activate the original door bell “ding ding” chime on the wall or do you have to buy something to make it chime inside the house?
Links are in the description of the video that will take you to Amazon where the products can be purchased. Thank you for using our affiliate links as it helps us out and adds no cost to you!
Question: does setting it up as a different device on a "new system" instead of the existing home system make it so it doesnt also send a notification to your phone or tablet when someone rings the bell? I was going to hardwire so my mechanical chime still rings, but was hoping it would ring the chime and also notify our phones.
It still will as long as you have that setup in the Alexa app. Having it on a separate system though allows you to turn off all the other cameras, say like when you are cutting the lawn, while keeping the doorbell active. Has been a huge benefit
@@BusyBeeLiving Thank you for the video and reply. I was able to get this wired and set up for my parents in 20 minutes so they can still use their obnoxiously loud mechanical bell. I really appreciate the easy to follow video, well done 👍
Will the angled bracket work with the 3 hole plate? Mine came with the 3 hole plate but the holes are more spread out than my original doorbell so it's too big and I don't want to drill any new holes. The angled bracket looks like it has the slots to fit my doorbell so I'm thinking of trying it and returning it if it doesn't work.
@@BusyBeeLiving The doorbell is run by the wires from the house ..... The question does it need batteries to run the camera and communication to the indoor unit?
Yes, the batteries are still required so that the doorbell system has enough power to run. The old doorbell wiring is only allowing the blink to chime the old system bell.
You can access the live view anytime through the blink app or asking your Alexa devices and it will also activate whenever someone rings the bell. Hope this answered your question, and thanks for watching!
@@BusyBeeLiving sorry for the questions. It seems as if i can only access it live the moment someone rings my bell. But it i would like to just check to see if anyones outside through the camera i can’t . How can i fix that ?
Never apologize for asking questions, this is what helps people solve the problems in the future, so thank you for asking! If you go into your blink app and go to the icon screen of the doorbell there is a little icon in the bottom left corner (shaped like a video recorder). Hit that and it will take you to the live feed of the camera.
From what I have been told, the doorbell will work on its own without the sync module. Quote "Thank you for asking about our new Blink Video Doorbell! No, a Sync Module is not required. The Blink Video Doorbell can manage its own system, but when installed with a connected Sync Module, Doorbell battery life is improved and advanced features are available."
Could I have been smart enuf to verify these instructions, I'd have found them lacking. We've now a doorbell that's wired but not ringing the indoor chime or taking as good as or better pics/videos than Ring's. Nice guy with good intentions, and people skills and I'll come to his site again the next time I need help.
Hi!. When Ring doorbells are installed the power to the bell is disconnected by bypassing the original house bell circuit when the two wires are joined. Then having installed the Ring system, the old house bell box doesn't ring. I wonder if you looked at this and joined the relevant wires as they were originally, maybe the old bell would work again. With the Ring system a separate chime box is said to be required. The two different designs are different. :-)
Did you have to install batteries even though you wired it? I don't get why Blink states you need batteries even when wired. How long have the batteries lasted with it wired?
Yes the batteries are still required even if it is wired. The wiring is only to get the old chime to work. As for the battery life, I have still not changed these batteries as of the date of this post and this doorbell was installed Dec of 2021.
I'm thinking of running a power cord with USB throught a wall splitting the wire run it throught the wall to the door bell outside plug in and boom will that work?
Batteries are still required even when the doorbell is hardwired. Although, they say that using the module and hardwiring it helps with battery life, but the hardwiring is mainly for the existing chime to work.
@@BusyBeeLiving I was wondering why it wasn't working when I took the batteries out after hardwiring it. I'm usually out of town for 6+ months at a time. Do you know how long the batteries last when its hardwired?

I just did it so it would be less confusing for the filming, but I did find it very helpful. With it on its own system, I can easily turn off the house cameras with one button while keeping the doorbell active.
@@BusyBeeLiving Ok, makes sense. It’s annoying that Live View isn’t available “on demand” without the Sync Module ☹️ Just one more thing they force you to buy
If you are wired in, do you have control on how you want the indoor chime? Echo only, Mechanical only, or both? I can see myself wanting to adjust where I receive the chime, if possible
I know the camera on this item is wide angle but when I install the doorbell, what is the lowest height I could afford for the camera lens while still be able to see people's face?
My only problem with Blink v Ring is that with the Blink...I run through batteries like crazy. Too many people walking by or driving by. They're always activating the cam. With the Ring, once you wire it you're good. BUT, you need that subscription, unless you just want to use it for live viewing
Yes the doorbell can be installed with just using the batteries and not wiring. The blink door bell system itself needs to connect to your wifi in order to work though.
I did it so the video would be easier to follow, but afterwards found it very beneficial, as I could disarm the house system when doing things like cutting the grass with one click of the button and still have the doorbell active.
Very informative video. Well done. May I ask, if I have connected to the existing mechanical chime, will the other connected Echo Dot speakers still ring?
I am switching to Blink from another video doorbell. It had a device that I had to wire into my existing doorbell to prevent it from constantly buzzing. When I hooked it up without that, the bell buzzed constantly as the video doorbell actually completed the circuit somewhat and let electricity through to my existing mechanical chime. Will I have that problem with the Blink?
@@BusyBeeLiving Thanks! I have the doorbell camera installed. Haven't hooked the chime up yet, but it works with my Echo Dots. The manual says it needs 16v AC, but mine is 12v AC. I hooked it up anyway, and the power analysis said it was okay! How do you change the name of the camera so that the announcement on Alexa says the correct name? I have Blink Mini and a new Blink doorbell, both refuse to be renamed. I had originally named the Mini "Basement Camera", but then I decided to move it to the garage, so I went to the app and changed the name to " Garage ", and in the app, it renamed it, but Alexa still tells me, " Motion detected on the Basement Camera ", and I can't change it. I even made sure it was changed on the Alexa app. No joy. Now, same thing the doorbell. It says " Someone is at the Front door (very long serial number) " , which is very annoying. Can't change it.
You can add it to existing or make a new. I did a new “system” in the video but it used the same module. This way I can disarm the house system and leave the doorbell on much easier.
As of right now the do not sell just a chime, but if you have an echo show or dot (some type of amazon device) you can program them to notify you when the doorbell is pushed
You need to use the small tool that came with it to release it from the base plate, so its not like it comes right off without a little convincing. I remove it from the plate with the tool in the "doorbell offline" video we posted, if you would like to see how its done. If someone does try to take it they'll be on camera for a good bit 🤷. Good Question.
Only thing I can think of is either somehow your doorbell button may be stuck or the unit is faulty. First, check your existing setup to make sure that it falls in between 16-24 volts AC at 50 or 60HZ, 40VA max. I would take the doorbell of and pull the batteries to reset the unit. If this doesn't work I would contact the seller and see about getting a new unit.
Just hold the camera in place where you would like it and use the live camera feature on the app on the phone giving you a preview of what it will look like.
@@BusyBeeLiving Ethan you so much... I wanted to ask you if do you know if is posible to hardwired??? I been hardwired different kind of devices but I never tried to do.it with this device.

I connected mine to the existing module, I believe it can still be used without one but you loose some of the features.
Very helpful. Thank you so much!! 🙏🏻
Glad it was helpful!
Is there a reason you don't want it to be part of your home system?
It's nice to easily disable the outside cameras when I'm working on stuff so they are not constantly going off while keeping the doorbell system on.
I have not had this issue with the blink system and per comments so far no one else has. If you do please share. Thank you.
Very through video. Installing my doorbell today.
Thank you! Hope it went well
Does this still require batteries or can it withdraw currency from the existing doorbell wires? thanks
The batteries are still required, the wiring is just so the old chime works
What if the tranformed isn't compatible?
Hi, my doorbell is Deta C3504, when i follow your steps , it's not work with the chime , not sure is the voltage problem , thanks !
I am sorry but I do not know 🤷♂️
@@BusyBeeLiving never mind , thank you ! 🙏
Don’t know if you will see my comment since this is an older video but for best viewing how high should you mount the doorbell? Thanks
Mine measured from the top of the camera just shy of 4 feet
I have existing blink cameras , and just bought the blink door bell would I select the home system option or new system option ?
You can add it to existing or make a new. I did a new “system” in the video but it used the same module. This way I can disarm the house system and leave the doorbell on much easier.
Can you buy a blink chime? There is no chime in the blue.
As of right now the do not sell just a chime, but if you have an echo show or dot (some type of amazon device) you can program them to notify you when the doorbell is pushed
Yeah I only have 2 pieces! I don’t have that plate. I got the white off of Amazon Feb 10 2022? I’m confused.
The corner wedge is sold separately, link in the description for it. You can just install the plate to the wall without the wedge as well.
Does the doorbell by itself not come with any type of bracket on the back of it or is that wedge bracket necessary to mount the doorbell camera?
It comes with a flat mount, if you want it mounted on an angle you will need to purchase the extra mount
How do you connect straight to your Internet connection not WiFi? Is this possible?
No needs a WiFi connection
Is that easy to take off the camera module from the base (back cover)? In my area, someone will take it for sure.
Lol, at least they will be on camera trying to steal it
I am not supposed to flip the electrical off?
my indoor chime is one that plugs into a plug I take it this won't work?
I am unfamiliar with that type of setup, so you'll have to check and see with the old system.
Awesome, the little tips help a lot, thanks.
Happy to help!
I installed mine in the doorbell just rings continuous what did I do wrong
Only thing I can think of is either somehow your doorbell button may be stuck or the unit is faulty. First, check your existing setup to make sure that it falls in between 16-24 volts AC at 50 or 60HZ, 40VA max. I would take the doorbell of and pull the batteries to reset the unit. If this doesn't work I would contact the seller and see about getting a new unit.
Great video,super easy install 💪
Glad you found it helpful!
How do I know where the camera is pointing before drilling?
Just hold the camera in place where you would like it and use the live camera feature on the app on the phone giving you a preview of what it will look like.
I've wired mine and it's not working. Something about 16-24 power compatibility which ai don't understand how to fix.
It might have to do with your WiFi signal. Hope it gets working
How do I make the blue light around the burton to light up and stay on???
I was digging through the app and haven't found anything to set this. I'm currently looking into it and will get back with you.
@@BusyBeeLiving Ethan you so much... I wanted to ask you if do you know if is posible to hardwired??? I been hardwired different kind of devices but I never tried to do.it with this device.
Thanks,I will try to do mine from your video.
Go for it!
@@BusyBeeLiving Thanks
is there a part 2 because yu didnt show any video
Is there a way to set a schedule of when the indoor wired chime rings and when it only rings to a phone? Thinking of sleeping children being woken up by indoor chime.
Can you connect this device on your echo? So you can see it like a camera?
Yes, I made a video on how to connect these to your echo show and this will show you the steps to have it added into your devices.
