We ended up exchanging this model for the slimmer version ua-cam.com/users/postUgkx0jZ_lGlDVJhDnmagEU8gn47cmfPNlLQU because it was too wide for the only door trim area that made sense to mount it on. However, we should have just noted the dimensions prior to purchasing. Otherwise, we love the doorbell. It works perfectly, and the video is very clear, even at night.
Installed this using the battery option but changed to hard-wire option a few days later. With the battery, notifications are received on the Ring app almost immediately (in real time). There's a definite, noticeable lagging with the hard-wired option. The doorbell will ring but you won't receive the notification on your phone app till maybe 15 seconds later. BTW, excellent, detailed video.
I feel like another, super significant upgrade from the first to the second and all subsequent models is that of the detachable rechargeable battery! As where, the first generation, you literally have to unscrew the two screws there on the bottom and remove the entire device each time you need to recharge it!. I recently discovered when searching for solutions to a stripped housing to the two screws at the bottom. Pardon me if my lingo isn’t correct. I’m not the most handy of gals, but I do what I can. Low vision, legally blind ,one deep! ;) Yes, I recently discovered while searching for solutions to that little debacle that had I had a second generation or newer I could have ordered this handy replacement kit and thereby learned about all the cheeky little upgrades. I’m missing out on! And that’s one of the major ones I noted , I thought I’d add. I think I need a trade-in deal.!?
Thanks you so much! By luck I found your video while figuring out my gen 2 and it made the whole installation so much easier. Also, I really appreciated the bit at the end with the chime, made my ring that much better!
I have same issue...in wanting to replace 1st gen doorbell with 2023 version. I want to move the old version to my porch location. Could you cover on how to update or delete so to change device locations at the same address. TY! 😊
My kit which is 2nd generation only came with 1 wedge which is fine & is flat one side & hollow the other ! Do I attach to wall on flat side so that mounting plate on back of phone can be screwed into it ? What attaches mounting plate to phone? Is it using the single security screw that is tightened with supplied blue screw ?driver
I don't think everyone have issue about install and activation but to prevent from thieves, how do you prevent from thieves since the mounting install is not too secure
It has screws to keep the ring to the mount and the mount itself has screws to keep it connected to the wall. A thief would be going through a bit of trouble to get it off.
Can you set it to see the bottom of the door where your door draft blocker is under front door and where packages are left directly in front of door on the floor AND THE PERSON LEAVING PACKAGE?? I want to be able to see the floor directly in front of my door and the whole head to toe image of anyone standing in front of or to the side of my apt door. Is this possible?
The second generation ring cut the height down of the picture. You might have to use the tilt down bracket along with this to point it downward along with angle it
I have found that alien double sided tape works great. But I need to know if and how I can have two ring door bells work off of one wifi as I have two front doors that receive delivers.
Do you mean the existing chime plus a doorbell ring on the ring itself? If so then yes, you’ll have the ring make a noise but you’ll hear the chime inside when connected.
wow i didnt even know abt the wedge mount and it obs is not capturing certain areas of my property, Would this work on ring battery-meaning once mounted, am able take the bell off to recharge?
I’m here because I want a ring doorbell but here’s my dilemma I live on the first floor but I have 2 flights of steep steps my house is on a slope and front door is right at the top of the steps so I did a test with a GoPro mounted where I’d want the bell to be and did a test to see if the GoPro could see me in front of it the first test I had it too low and only got shots of my neck so I moved it up and i finally got the perfect height to see my face so I marked the spot I’d put the ring at but here’s the thing I won’t be able to see anyone approaching till they get to the top of the steps how could I angle the ring doorbell so that I’d be able to see someone approaching from the sidewalk and coming up the steps before they even get to the top
There are 2 security screws which hold the unit in place on the bracket. The tool for securing the unit in place comes with it, as any flat blade/ pozi screwdriver will not do the job. It’s similar to a torx screwdriver is how I could best describe it.
Man mine ain’t nothing like this cheap plastic crap that don’t work. Don’t even have the holes tapped at an angle. I’ll just put it flat on the wall fuck it man
Good video, but you must have been on a caffine high. You rushed through it very fast. Please consider going a little slower with your videos, since they are for instructional use.

Thank you! Your setup for inside mechanical chime at 11:24 in video helped quite a bit!

I'm a little confused. You didn't want real time updates? I'm only asking because I don't have a door ball to wire too.
This will be my 2nd add on and it will be installed on the garage wooden frame. the main is the wedge. Thank you very much for the great video.
Can you install it without the security screws? My box came without bag B which should contain them..and the box also didn’t come with that sticker

TY. Nicely done here. Fairly easy to set up & hard wire installation.
Finally, exactly what I was looking for!!!!
If I hard wire it, won't my original door bell chime ring, and then compete with the plug in chimes I'll be using in a couple of other rooms?
Do you really cut door bell power because its very low voltage. I never did that and have replaced a few doorbells over my time
Yea DC, not dangerous.
Is there a rain cover that will fit this kind if fitting please? I cant find one that says it will fit.

I’m effect thankyou one question ring doorbell second generation I’ve jsut bought one can you zoom in on the videos ??
Would this work without being hardwired in?
I like the video, could you put Spanish subtitles for the steps to follow in the video?
Because I want to understand everything you say. Thanks
Thanks for the visual comparison!
Thanks for installation and simplicity
Do you have to purchase the chime with the ring if wireless?
Best tutorial I’ve seen on this. Thanks!
Thank you because I was very confused 😂

@IansTech What about the charge of battery, how long does it last and does it need to remove from the wall to recharge?
Hello! What if I don’t have a doorbell? Can I still use a ring doorbell?
Yes you can! It will just run on battery
Can you set it to see the bottom of the door where your door draft blocker is under front door and where packages are left directly in front of door on the floor AND THE PERSON LEAVING PACKAGE?? Do the regular door bell rings additionaly?
Do you mean the existing chime plus a doorbell ring on the ring itself? If so then yes, you’ll have the ring make a noise but you’ll hear the chime inside when connected.

Yes it will.. sorry for late reply!
Is ths working on 3rd floor
Is the battery version really better then hard wired?
Thank you
When I connected my ring my ringer inside house do not work
Need wireless ri ng door bell down loade
Can this doorbell be connected to my smart tv.
Where is the motion sensor
It is in the top portion around the camera

i believe they have a wedge that goes up and down instead of sideways
Humm. Some reason it seems like it will fail due to power issues. He did not change to 24v as required. Nor did he changed the chime wiring.
A month or two !
One question: what’s to keep an idiot from just stealing it? That’s my big worry! 😂
There are 2 security screws which hold the unit in place on the bracket.
The tool for securing the unit in place comes with it, as any flat blade/ pozi screwdriver will not do the job.
It’s similar to a torx screwdriver is how I could best describe it.
This is so ridiculous ... last time I buy Ring. I am just going to attach it to my wall using Velcro and use the battery
😂
I'm about to toss it out 😂😅
I know right! I have stucco & it does not like cooperate! Next step…superglue!!😂😂
Have you a abo for the bell?
Man mine ain’t nothing like this cheap plastic crap that don’t work. Don’t even have the holes tapped at an angle. I’ll just put it flat on the wall fuck it man
That’s not a Ring 2. Ring 2 has removable battery.
This is the Ring Video Doorbell 2nd generation. The naming scheme they use is very confusing but it is a 2nd generation.
I have this model and although it has the battery, there's also the option to hard-wire.

You can control how slowly you hear the video by clicking on that little silver cog in the upper right corner or your UA-cam screen.
It’s common sense bud
