    Fantastic video!! I live by the finger lakes in upstate NY and fish for lake trout a lot. 50 years of "pulling copper" it's not thrilling but it puts Lakers in the frying pan. I started jigging two years ago with a kayak and I am addicted!!
    I have a great fish finder on my kayak that clearly shows my 1.5 oz lure in 120 feet of water. I have about 30 lakers chase my lure to the one that finally hits my lure. It's still fun to watch them blast off the bottom after the lure only to reject it. I'm getting better as the ratio used to be about 80 to 1. I can get some Lakers to follow the lure up and down 3 times before they drop off hahaha!
    I jumped out of my chair because this video is the first video I found to SHOW the fish finder screen in real time. I am showing this video to everyone!!!! Sorry for the long comment but jigging like this is so exciting and it took me 60 years to discover it!! 😊

      Best comment yet!! Trolling is so much more effort then jigging and the numbers don't lie when it comes to fish in the boat. Also jigging is interactive from the moment you see the fish and even after the release! Most of the finger Lakers have smelt in them so matching the profile is crucial to the bite ratio. Try the baits I make specifically for Lakers benditfishing.company.site/

    I don't know about the garlic, but I will mash up a minnow and smear it all over my bait. A more natural scent.

    Lakes I fish i go straight braid and it’s clear as all. I wonder if lakes that get a lot of pressure that makes a difference. Great tips! Thanks for the video.

      This lake gets tons of pressure. I've tried straight braid next to someone who had a lead and the same bait and no bites

    I don't have a fancy trolling motor with spot lock. How can I stay in one spot to vertically jig for lake trout? I tried using a drift sock but that didn't work well.

    • @BendItFishing
      @BendItFishing  2 роки тому +1

      You can put out a marker bouy and use your gas motor to stay close to it. Or you can use a really heavy jig and drift

    Thermocline

    • @BendItFishing
      @BendItFishing  9 місяців тому

      Thermocline matters but in the last year or so I have found that if there's bait outside the thermocline like there's will be near the bait no matter where it is

    So just find a hump in the lake like for smallmouth and jig?

    • @BendItFishing
      @BendItFishing  Рік тому

      You can but they are not always on humps try ledges and coves as well even flats

    I'm guessing 30 feet is the thermocline.

      @@BendItFishing Great. I see a lot of 3/4 oz. and heavier jigs being used for deep jigging in other videos.

      Our bait in this lake is very small smelt. Also this lake has a ton of fishing pressure so I match the profile and size of the bait to get the most bites. We also cannot use any lead so finding a decent tungsten jig head can be difficult

    • @browntrout611
      @browntrout611 2 роки тому

      @@BendItFishing You''re on a huge lake so the small smelt must be young of the year smelt. All lakes with a good smelt population must have a ton of small smelt also. I live in upstate NY and there was an old timer who used to max out with lakers on a regular basis with lead core line and a tiny nickel plated spoon on the end. I think of that as a small smelt imitation presented horizontally instead of vertically like you're doing.
