There are a lot of little things that the Pro has over the premium... for example at 6:40, you show the climate controls and they are much more simplistic lacking the LED display and dual climate zones. I'm not trying to flame you, but I don't agree with the idea of buying a new vehicle and having to make upgrades to it as soon as you drive it off the lot to make it more like the model you passed on. There are a lot more things you get for the extra 8K than the wheels. It's wrong to talk about the $8K price difference like it's just a set of wheels and tires. Honestly, I was on the fence between the pro and the ORP.. I went with the ORP. First thing I did was upgrade the shocks/lift, threw some method wheels with 285’s, black out over lays, and a roof rack. I couldn’t be happier, and I don’t felt like I spent 8k on badges. No interest in a droning exhaust, Toyota wheels, or the stock roof rack for that matter. If you wanna upgrade the ORP is the way to go. Use your hard earned money on the upgrades you actually want, mechanically they are the same, fox shocks didn’t mean anything to me.
Finally someone else who put black overlays on these TRD off road rims !!! I did that too. I got the overlays on Amazon and it completely made these rims look so much better !!!
best value presently is the GX460/Landcruiser Prado. In most areas they are not marked up like the TRD Pro, plus you get so much more smile 😀. Great video as always.
Ya we got the TRD off-road premium and we upgraded it just how we liked it. Plus we got KDSS. We also got the upgrade to get the front and 360 camera. Fox 2 inch front 1 inch rear lift. I recently traded my 2016 SR5 Premium for a 2023 TRD Off Road Premium, KDSS. Handles great in town and occasional trips to the cabin proves it's capability. . I got rid of the Dunlop HT Duellers and replaced them with AT Hercules tires. I am old school and love the basic tech on this truck.
Maybe I misunderstood, however the TRD Off Road is as capable or more so (if you get the KDSS system) with regards to regular slow speed off-roading. The Pro has great shocks for higher speed desert driving (think BAJA 500) when compared with the Off Road. The real difference between the two are aesthetic and convenience offerings (Wheels, Roof Rack, Auto HVAC, and Auto Headlights and maybe better initial dealer offered tires). Other than that, both offer the same 4x4 system with locking rear diff, Crawl Control, Multi Terrain Select, and the best of all ATRAC. So if you want a Go-To-The-Mall daily driver, the SR5 Premium or the Limited are awesome options.
I would say get a TRD Off-Road/Premium if you wanna mod it eventually. I got one with the the TRD wheels and a few more options than this one for 49. Falken Wildpeak tires, TRD exhaust and Cali Raised off road sliders on the way. 200 miles in I love this thing in every way.

Just got a 2023 TRD ORP and am very pleased so far (about 1k miles). Got it on a whim calling the local Toyota dealer and they let me know there was one scheduled for delivery, so I had them hold it for me 🎉. Midnight black metallic w/KDSS and came with running boards which was all a pleasant surprise on the day of pickup. Knew the color before getting it, just not the optional equipment. Discovered that the tires were all inflated to 55psi about a week into driving it, so be sure to check the tire pressure before you leave the lot! 😅
I think if you're gonna offroad dont buy the TRD pro. TRD ORP with $8k left for offroad mods will make a way better truck for offroading than a base trd pro.
Ben, so im really thinking of buying the 2023 trd off road premium in the next week. How much do you think i can negotiate for out the door? Would 45k out the door be too little to offer? Or do they have room to go down that much?
Bought my 2020 TRD ORP 4x4 in September of 2020 while it was still on the transport boat from Japan. Had to wait 6 weeks for it, however the dealer LOVES a quick turnover. They have virtually no overhead in it, they get paid a base rate (commission) between $750-$1700 just to "flip" the vehicle anyway. My sales guy had taken my want/must have list and was trying to transfer one in but found this one as an allotment to them and called me (I suspect he ordered it knowing it would sell quickly regardless). TRD ORP Suspension package (Bilstien 5100 not Fox), Sunroof/Moonroof, All Crawl Controls etc, 4x4 manual shifter, TRD Venture Gunmetal gray alloy wheels, TRD PRO Black Chrome performance exhaust, TRD Off Road interior, Dash cam system, Badging blacked out, TRD Pro skid plates, Predator Step Bars, Premium sound system and......TRD (not PRO) all weather mats throughout. ALL FACTORY INSTALLED OPTIONED. I did not set out to "clone" a PRO, I wanted the Factory Options available built to my liking. The differences: NO KDSS by choice (not on PRO anyway saved $2700), Pro Front grille (don't care but $379), separate HVAC controls(don't care), remote start(that I can add $879), roof rack(don't care $439), lift/level kit(eh retrospect should have $1200), and off road aggressive tires(buy my own $???), front terrain camera(undecided but can if I want ???). The TRD PRO I was looking at MSRP'd at $54,748 and he could not even talk about negotiating. My build TRD ORP MSRP'd at $48,178 and I am a confidant buyer because I was a Cash Buyer and WILLING TO WAIT. No financing, no issues, no problems, quick and smooth transaction. Don't forget to factor in Tag/Tax/Title which you are going to have to pay for anyway in your chosen State.....(mine was about $2700=$46,200 total ouch haha). Why pay for a suspension though if you are going to build your own and "toss" or have to sell the Fox factory stuff away right? And the KDSS is VERY limiting to upgrades hence the delete button on that. $3500 later I have a Full LED package inside and out, Readylift 3/2 lift and level kit with diff drop (Dealer installed), and K02's @ 285/75/R17 (all 5, Dealer installed) and can crawl anywhere a PRO can (while saving $6K-ish). Morale of the story: Do your own research, research, research on wants/must haves, deal with a larger dealership (Regional), always deal with the same salesperson (they are investing THEIR time in YOU as well so they deserve the sale!!!!!), be willing to wait walk away or find another salesperson if you feel they are too carsalesmanyish(yeah I made that up = pushy), and have your OWN "financing" set up WAY before you start getting serious cash financing bank or whatever. Haggled a good bit (and reminded them that I saw they had sold one very nearly identical a week earlier for $43,100 because that one was why I called initially but it had a deposit already) and they came down to $44,700 on a Tuesday night, told them $43,500 was my final price. Said they just could not do that so I politely thanked him and said I would keep looking and call me if he found the "next" right one. Wednesday morning at 10:00 AM got a text saying that if I was serious, then they wanted my business at MY PRICE! Do not be afraid to ask, however DO be prepared and confident. I'm driving mine everyday and still love it.....and remember that it is their job......TO SELL CARS haha! They are NOT losing money.....just not making as much as they WANT off of ME(YOU)! Sorry know this is a long read, just hope this helps some folks.......your experience may vary just advice from mine.....Happy Trails!
Just got our new 23 trd off road premium lunar rock 4runner. Came with toyo all terrains, running boards, tint, all weather mats, and trd skid plate for 48k out the door. We are stoked!
How did you get it at $48k out the door. I want to purchase one trd off road premium 2023 and they are telling me $51,500 out the door. Do you think I can negotiate them down to $48k?
In Canada the off-road has more features than the US ORP. Standard dual zone, sunroof KDSS and MTM. In my opinion it is way better than the Pro. I switched out the grill, lifted the front 1”, blacked out everything and put pro rims on and I don’t have that stupid pro roof basket. Next year I will put King suspension on with angled sliders and a bull bar and still be under the price of a pro and have a better vehicle.
What do you guys think about the TRD sport that one looks nice it's got the 20-inch wheels on it I don't go off-roading but I like the way those limited type of models feel on the road you know the Toyota 4Runner Limited but this is actually a TRD sport that I was looking at thought it was kind of cool
I think the other issue with deciding between the Pro and Premium is warranty. If you buy a Premium and mod it yourself with a lift, shocks and tires will Toyota still warranty it? If not then some might opt for the Pro, has the popular mods but factory warranty.
You can add aftermarket parts and still maintain a factory warranty. Toyota would have to prove that the aftermarket parts were the cause of the problem to void the warranty. If just installing aftermarket parts voided factory warranties, the aftermarket part market probably wouldn't exist. There is more to it than that, but just installing aftermarket parts does not void the factory warranty, no matter what anyone tells you.
Love the SUV is there an option a for a rear cam with trajectory? A 23k subaru has a better cam and has trajectory. Why is so outdated when it comes down to cams? Weird.
Naw, assuming you didnt pay a markup on your TRD Pro, you’ll be able to sell it for over MSRP when your wife’s new vehicle comes in. Cool color on this one though
I wanted to love this, but the headroom in the back is very low. My passengers were hitting their heads constantly. Especially when leaning forward with a run roof model. They were all shorter people. What gives?
Always gotta take Doug Demuros videos with a grain of salt. For the average joe that doesn't want all yhe features that will eventually break, this vehicles is perfect.
Only a few differences between the PRO and ORP for $10k less. Different shocks, badging, TRD skid plate, roof basket, dual AC controls, and tires/wheels. I have an ORP w/ KDSS (limits body roll - not found on PRO models) and have upgraded it at half the cost of what dealerships are charging. Most PROs have a $10k plus markup....no thanks. The only advantage is when the owner goes to sell it they will get top dollar!!!
I just go my 23 ORP (in white) just over a week ago. Absolutely love it. It was parked next to a PRO. I did a side-by-side and could not justify that massive mark-up. Saved myself like 12K and I figure I will probably spend a max of 6K if I want to get every upgrade I can think of.
@@kneepayne congrats you will love it. First thing I did right off the lot was to get a paint correction (even though dealership did not take any plastic off or wash it per my request) and put Xpel paint protection (PPF) along with ceramic pro. This was all done by a high end professional shop. Next week I am getting the low profile roof rack installed (40 inch Rigid light bar), Rigid ditch lights, and gunmetal grey TRD wheels that I got an awesome deal from a dealership online during Labor Day. Should look pretty damn sweet when it's all said and done. The Pros are nice but definitely not worth the markup on price. The roof basket is about worthless and that is why so many have it removed. Not many other features I can justify for that kind of money.
@@RLTW_03 I didn't like the roof basket of the PRO. I just got some Yakima bars so I could transfer the accessories off of my 2018 CR-V. Not an off-roader but a photographer. I do need a truck to get me into hard-to-reach places. Looking forward to returning to Death Valley and exploring more areas of the park that had previously pushed my CR-V to the absolute limits of its capabilities (before turning around).
Or better yet…but the TRD ORP and put the money that you saved over a TRD Pro to better wheels and tires, suspension, and armor. The TRD Pro is for people who don’t want to mod. The TRD Off Road is for people who want to make a better truck than the Pro.
Since everyone seems well versed here and I have finally put the pro idea to rest…what do you think I could do for a great price on this one? I would change tires black out that chrome eyesore in front get the roof rack and all weather mats. Not sure if best to do after purchase or work it in?
I’m really surprised these still have mechanical transfer case selector. My 2006 Tacoma has a knob on the dash. Waste of space if you ask me. Could have more center console storage

I'll be getting my ORP in lunar rock mid April! Just got the call from my toyota salesperson this past weekend. I put in my deposit and wishlist (toyota does not currently build these to specific orders) in March 2022.
@sebastian romero I'll be paying exactly MSRP based on the online build and price, my dealer doesn't do commission so no funny price games. Plus tax, title, and dealer document fee (up to $125). It's still in transit so I still have about a month til I actually have the vehicle.
I own a 2019 4runner ORP. it came with the Xseries package which makes it look identical to the pro for thousands less. I also own a 22 jeep rubicon with the xtreme recon package. I'll tell you, off road, the 4runner is as good or better other than the lack of clearance compared to the jeep on 35's from the factory. the pro is a total waste of money.
Just to be clear when you drop down to an Off Road Prem from a Pro you lose automatic climate control, automatic headlights and remote start. I only found this out after doing some research. Further, if you do go with an Off Road Prem, look for one with the off road package which gets you a front facing camera ($850). Then you will be missing less from the Pro
You still can do remote start from the iPhone app I think. Could be wrong on this, I haven't used it yet. I did find it odd about the mix of technology that Toyota includes and does not. Really, no automatic headlights on a 50k ORP? That is standard on 90% of cars at any price range. Yet... I get heated rearview mirrors. Neither the Ford F150 Platinum or my 2020 GMC AT4 that were otherwise loaded had that. I actually like the manual climate control. It has 3 simple knobs instead of electronics. Essentially, it is the same as my parents 1970 impala back in the day. The Impala had a checkbook sized panel with 3 sliders with the same functions as the three Toyota knobs.
The price of of adding off road parts and getting them installed you are better off just getting the pro unless you want to some extreme off roading in that case just get a jeep
KDSS is a Factory option it is NOT standard equipped. The PRO Fox suspension $4K price tag which IS standard equipped. Got my TRD ORP 4x4 without KDSS because it is VERY limiting in upgrading the suspension. Anyway, it is like a $2K+ option that is worthless if you start modding your own suspension.

I have an ORP as well, but I love the proof roof rack. I'm going to order one of those.
I bet yours looks better than a Pro too.
Finally someone else who put black overlays on these TRD off road rims !!! I did that too. I got the overlays on Amazon and it completely made these rims look so much better !!!
Aren't you Mr. money pants
best value presently is the GX460/Landcruiser Prado. In most areas they are not marked up like the TRD Pro, plus you get so much more smile 😀. Great video as always.
Nice ride ! I’m a fan of keeping it stock but I totally understand wanting to make it look like a TRD PRO.
This 23' Toyota 4-runner SUV looks amazing.
Terrific job with your content as always Ben.
Ya we got the TRD off-road premium and we upgraded it just how we liked it. Plus we got KDSS. We also got the upgrade to get the front and 360 camera.
Fox 2 inch front 1 inch rear lift. Method wheels, KO2 275 tires, CBI full aluminum skid plates, CBI sliders. Good stuff :)
We also swapped out to the black valences and and aftermarket TRD pro grill.
How are those 275s? Are you getting any rubbing or did you have to do some cutting?
@@theflyingbrompton4787 got 275/70r17. Method zero offset wheels. 2 inch lift and no rubbing but the install shop did the TRD pro cut.
No cab mount issues
Where did you buy your ORP? A dealer in SC said you can't get the 360 camera on the ORP, only the Pro. I wonder if that's a region issue.
@@ThatguyFirst got it in Arizona. It’s the “premium package” upgrade that’s gets you “multi terrain monitor” when you get an off-road premium. It’s confusing that the premium trim would have a premium package on top…
@@TheReligiousLeft That helps. Thanks!
I love my white trdoff road venture trim not many out there and with the black out handles and badging and trd wheels just looks bad ass ..
How much you pay for it? And milage on it??
Got my trd premium about a week ago in midnight black , very smooth and love it! Traded in my Jeep wrangler
Mine also came with trd wheels (black)
Where you able to negotiate since it's the end of the year?
@@lucyoch2491 mmm yea. I had to pay 500$ to wait for it to be shipped. But the 500 went towards the car payment
KDSS, all you need to know when buying a TRD ORP.
Just bought my orp last week i love it. Used to have tacoma off road 4x4 but the quality and ride comfort is not even close.
I got the trd Pro because it was dope and had the JBL sound system when the trd Offroad didn’t
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
I got the premium without the JBL and heard all these stories about how bad the audio was. Mine actually sounds really good.
@@brianrice1492 it's not bad it's just I prefer the actual bump from the sub woofer with my jbls lol it makes it seem like I'm at a concert or party when I play my music
I have had the same FJ Cruiser since I was 16, and own my second 5th gen 4Runner (a 2022 TRD Off Road Premium).. Needless to say I love the 4.0 liter, the capability and the unmatched bulletproof reliability that this platform has offered, over the years!
I use my 4Runners as my offroad, overland expedition adventure vehicles, and have never had any breakdown of any type!
Does your premium have a centre-diff?
@@mohammeds5458 You mean center diff locker? No, 4Runner TRD models have rear locking diffs. I think only expensive vehicles like Benz G Class and Lexus LX have center diff lockers.
@@lunamaria1048
But your car is premium right?
@@lunamaria1048
Doesn't premium come with all time 4wd?
@@mohammeds5458 No, the TRD models have part time 4WD. The lower end 4Runner "Limited" trims have full time 4WD, like the Nightshade edition and the Limited can apparently lock the center diff. So you know, all 4WD vehicles have a center diff. They are considered open diffs, like front and rear diffs of all combustion powered cars, unless you have a diff lockers. Center locker splits power 50/50 to front and rear.
Toyota you out did your built a awesome SUV love it so much love the color on it
Just got a 2023 TRD ORP and am very pleased so far (about 1k miles). 😅
How much did you pay if you don't mind sharing?
I just bought this car! It’s incredible, same color too 🤩
Just ordered one last night! Same color too!
I think if you're gonna offroad dont buy the TRD pro. TRD ORP with $8k left for offroad mods will make a way better truck for offroading than a base trd pro.
It is a good choice to get the ORP model. But I still went with TRD PRO 2023. Because I can.

I have an off-road premium myself, and I want the pro basket, it looks awesome!
Which grill kit did you use?
Trd pro is still the best 4runner for resell. Long and short term wise.
I will need to get a lift kit for a 285/70/17 in both cases right? What's the biggest tyre that will go on TRD Pro?
My TRD ORP has the front and side camera features which you have to manually switch them to.
There should be a box under the driver and passenger set so you don't feel like you are sitting on the floor.
What do you guys think about the TRD sport that one looks nice it's got the 20-inch wheels on it I don't go off-roading but I like the way those limited type of models feel on the road you know the Toyota 4Runner Limited but this is actually a TRD sport that I was looking at thought it was kind of cool
Are you able to get the remote start and 360 camera as an option on the TRD Off road premium ?
do you accept factory order for 2023 4runner?
What’s the difference in off road premium, and off road??
Good videos man but my feedback to you is to slow down when you talk and edit your videos. Thanks to the UA-cam speed setting
What model has the heated steering wheel? Saw it in another video.
Once you go Pro, you can never go premium. For those who know, you know....... :) From a resale perspective, the TRD Pro will always win....
When I purchased my 22 TRD orp I had in mind I wanted that particular model and trim. Not to convert it to a trd pro. It just does not make any sense
Love the SUV is there an option a for a rear cam with trajectory? A 23k subaru has a better cam and has trajectory. Why is so outdated when it comes down to cams? Weird.
TRD ORP with KDSS is a better car than the pro
Naw, assuming you didnt pay a markup on your TRD Pro, you’ll be able to sell it for over MSRP when your wife’s new vehicle comes in. Cool color on this one though
Wish more of them came with the sliding cargo deck.

Manually, from what I’ve seen in a few videos.
@@Campos2011 That's crazy for a premium package. Thanks
I wanted to love this, but the headroom in the back is very low. My passengers were hitting their heads constantly. Especially when leaning forward with a run roof model. They were all shorter people. What gives?
How much is reasonable price for the TRD Off-Road Premium 2023?
50-53k USD plus tax and license
@ cryingorc2337 I believe your right at least her in Tx
Hi Ben, I have this 4runner but in black. Could you advise how to turn the heat on in the back for the passengers.
Always gotta take Doug Demuros videos with a grain of salt. For the average joe that doesn't want all yhe features that will eventually break, this vehicles is perfect.
Can you put a 3rd row in the TRD?
@@kneepayne take it out and test all the cool controls it has and what they all do. The 4runner is an absolute beast!!
It's insane that a used 2020 TRD Premium will go for $46,000 and a new 2024 TRD Premium you can get for $49,000 at MSRP.

At one point I thought you said it had an eight track. Now that would show a reluctance to change the design!
I wish Premium would offer dual zone/ auto climate and JBL. But what you'd going to do. 🤷♂️
Does this come with remote start?
Hey Ben, you are reviewing the 4Ruuner and there people started uploading 2023 RX series first driver videos...
I’ll review one when I can
Or better yet…but the TRD ORP and put the money that you saved over a TRD Pro to better wheels and tires, suspension, and armor.
The TRD Pro is for people who don’t want to mod. The TRD Off Road is for people who want to make a better truck than the Pro.
Perfect explanation......'nuff said and well said indeed. Happy Trails!
Since everyone seems well versed here and I have finally put the pro idea to rest…what do you think I could do for a great price on this one? I would change tires black out that chrome eyesore in front get the roof rack and all weather mats. Not sure if best to do after purchase or work it in?
Is the ORP the only trim with leather seats? I plan to install my own suspension and build but rather have leather seats
No, there are several trim levels that have the Soft Tex material.
What does the non-JBL sound system sound like in a 4Runner?
I have one and it sounds great.
Does the non premium trd off road also have the rear vents and usb chargers??
Oh, ok.
I’m really surprised these still have mechanical transfer case selector. My 2006 Tacoma has a knob on the dash. Waste of space if you ask me. Could have more center console storage
they found it to be more robust, its one less sensor to fail. you also know its engaged.
Absolute beauty!!! How come it doesn't come with the push button climate control's and just the knob? I thought that was standard

Wow ORP 23 didn’t come with surround camera’s? My 22 OR non premium did.😅 glad i pulled that trigger in 22
The off road is better . You get to have kdss which makes onorad perforamce much better. Reducing body roll drastically and making it a better handiling truck. If u want off road oerformance the stock trd pro shocks arent drastically more advantageous over the trd premium. Your better off wirh quality off road shocks installed 😊
I have a 2022 trd orp with front/360 cam but 2023 don’t?🤔
No remote start for the price of this trim is robbery.
Remote start on Toyota and Lexus are worthless anyway. The vehicles automatically shut off once you open the door.
I'll be getting my ORP in lunar rock mid April! Just got the call from my toyota salesperson this past weekend. I put in my deposit and wishlist (toyota does not currently build these to specific orders) in March 2022.
How much did you pay relative to sticker?

Do they have apple play
Is this a Canadian model with the manual shifting 4WD? I believe the US version is an electronic knob.
Trd off-road seem to have manual shifter knob. The sport has electric switch
Why do people hate the Crome badging now of days. It just feels like people want an excuse to modify literally everything lol
Yeah, you should have got that over your TRD Pro.
Would do a body lift and add a front bash plate plus upgrade exhaust
Do they come with third row seats?
Yeah but it is not comfortable in the slightest
@@Winterfell1066 great analysis 👏
Why is it assumed that all purchasers of the TRD Off Road want to modify it to look like a TRD Pro?
V8 only
Doesn't the Pro have remote starting?
The price of of adding off road parts and getting them installed you are better off just getting the pro unless you want to some extreme off roading in that case just get a jeep
big difference is that the trd offroad has kdss suspension
KDSS is a Factory option it is NOT standard equipped. The PRO Fox suspension $4K price tag which IS standard equipped. Got my TRD ORP 4x4 without KDSS because it is VERY limiting in upgrading the suspension. Anyway, it is like a $2K+ option that is worthless if you start modding your own suspension.
You could have been good with an SR5 premium to be honest.
Does the 2023 trd pro have heated steering wheel ?
Yes. The ORP also has packages that include the heated steering wheel
A video where Ben is not in the snow. 😂
please do review for trd of road
trd off road has bilstein shocks
Now is like $20k difference...so with $10k you can change suspension and wheels and still have money to enjoy life...
