Just got my 04 Z4 3.0 SMG two months ago. Most of the work done on those invoices can be done at home for a fraction of the cost. It's such an easy engine work on. I've already done coils, plugs, DISA and valve cover gasket for under $400. All of that work can be done at home in about an hour.
I've always wanted to try the SMG version of the Z4, that's great! Thanks for the tip. I will be taking care of as many of the repairs as possible at home.

If you have the time, tools, space, and desire, you can do nearly everything yourself to keep the car in excellent condition. Get a scan tool to diagnose dashboard lights. Use only OE or OEM parts. Annual oil and filter changes despite mileage. Ditching the run flat tires is key to getting a much better driving experience. My Z4 has different tire sizes for front and rear, rotating tires for longer tire life is not possible. Overall, a very fun car that is great in dry weather but terrible in the snow.
@@ElliottAlvis they were OE on the E38 through 2001 model year and also featured OE on E39 M5 through '03. Very popular period looking wheels. Try to stick with real BMW M-Parallels. The real ones are lighter and better balanced. Copycats are typically cheaper, spray painted iron or steel (not alloy), heavier, not balanced. look for BMW part number stamped on wheel. You can get staggered (wider in back, narrower in front - better handling but more expensive because front and tires are different widths) or do the same size on all fours (essentially four front wheels).
It's not a "hybrid" system, it is a just hydrogen generator as seen in many utoob vids. It uses DC from the battery to split salt water into hydrogen and oxygen gas which is very explosive, then pumps it into the intake to improve performance. But the electrolysis load draws current from the battery which will make the alternator apply an equal and opposite force to the engine to recharge the battery. Add the losses from alternator and battery inefficiencies and you get a net loss.
Lol'd hard on the intro. Definitely put the Parallels on, it makes it seem more roadster and less "midnight club". That Z4 is one pretty car for its age

My son bought it in 2007 and I bought it from him last year with 79,000 miles on it. It just turned to 85,000. It drives like new and I absolutely love it. Still looks awesome too. Still the original gray and black.

The wheels on the car already looked GREAT, IMO and I RARELY like anything that is not factory looking or a BBS wheel on any BMW. The one you liked is VERY plane Jane in my opinion.
Definitely switch those wheels . I think the centre bore was not right on those wheels which came with the car, possibly a cause of your issue with the steering. Those newer wheels looks nice. I was expecting: Elliott : Johnny what is the cost to fix the Z4 Johnny : The BMW 528i
Z4 hell yes!....love my '04....it is a 'slot car'😁...wheels are subjective, I personally like the 'M's but spacers put undue loads on suspension parts. K.I.S.S. method ...find some stock wheels you like and drive it till they fall off!!👍
No real BMW person would be against switching the M Parallels in there, none. You have to make sure you have the space for the tires on the outside too, it will be close.
If the car is an 2003, and it has 10 years of service records, we are still missing 8 years of service records. So almost half it's life there are either no records or the owner(s) were the luckiest owners alive.
I would put Turbines back on it. It deserves the stock wheels back on it. I have had 2 of these. Both sold for more money than I paid and all the work was done by me. Except the Gunmetal Powder coat on the turbine wheels. Look at the Flowmaster Elliot. You think it sounds good now? The parallels do look good though. Maybe get them coated. The "Zed" is well worth fixing. My favourite car I've owned. Oh, and was that engine bay , Please!

Oh yeah!
Eliot if you search HHO Kits you will find the thing Johnny was talking about, if you search HHO for cars you will find the amazing tales of these things.
Thanks! I've been wanting to learn more about the system.
Funny watching this. I have a 2005 BMW 320i and the only things I've changed to date other than fluids/brakes is a valve cover gasket and it's just about to roll onto 100,000 miles :))
I'd love to hear an interview with the original owner about that hydrogen system, and I definitely love those M Parallel wheels...!
What the heck is a hydrogen system for a BMW?
The hood badge from my 323i was stolen 3 times. Once, along with the front directionals, but everyone knows, BMWs don’t need those.
The wheels on the car already looked GREAT, IMO and I RARELY like anything that is not factory looking or a BBS wheel on any BMW. The one you liked is VERY plane Jane in my opinion.
Thanks Don. Keep watching the series, I ended up selecting a wheel that is a nice balance of both.
Definitely switch those wheels . I think the centre bore was not right on those wheels which came with the car, possibly a cause of your issue with the steering. Those newer wheels looks nice.
I was expecting:
Elliott : Johnny what is the cost to fix the Z4
Johnny : The BMW 528i
haha, I would actually trade the 528i for this Z4 to be fully fixed. But Johnny doesn't want it!
@@ElliottAlvis lol Johnny likes the BMW 528i but does not want to show desperation lol .
@@DocMackGarage lol whatever you say!
Z4 hell yes!....love my '04....it is a 'slot car'😁...wheels are subjective, I personally like the 'M's but spacers put undue loads on suspension parts. K.I.S.S. method ...find some stock wheels you like and drive it till they fall off!!👍
A fellow Z4 enthusiast! Glad you’ve been loving yours man. Thanks for checking out my channel!
No real BMW person would be against switching the M Parallels in there, none. You have to make sure you have the space for the tires on the outside too, it will be close.
I agree with you Ralph. And I think the tires will have to be *very* low profile.
you should change it.
I had a 03 BMW Z4 and I loved it better looking than 07.
If the car is an 2003, and it has 10 years of service records, we are still missing 8 years of service records. So almost half it's life there are either no records or the owner(s) were the luckiest owners alive.
I know... I wish I had the first 8 years. But I am thankful for the 10 years of records that I do have.
Wichita, Kansas is the headquarters location for the Hooptievengers
😂
I would put Turbines back on it. It deserves the stock wheels back on it. I have had 2 of these. Both sold for more money than I paid and all the work was done by me. Except the Gunmetal Powder coat on the turbine wheels. Look at the Flowmaster Elliot. You think it sounds good now? The parallels do look good though. Maybe get them coated. The "Zed" is well worth fixing. My favourite car I've owned. Oh, and was that engine bay , Please!
Thanks Dan! Good to hear you have had such good luck with your previous Z4s. I will be cleaning the engine bay ASAP!
Had my 3.0 Z4 for 8 years, been very reliable and little maintenance cost
Definitely the M Parallel wheels. They suit the car. The estimate for the repairs is very good. In the end you will have a great car that is fully fettled. Well bought.
