How to Import Gifs in Unreal Engine 5.1

- Ever wanted to add animated gifs into your Unreal Engine level? In this video, I show you an easy way to import gifs into Unreal Engine 5!
I teach you how to find gifs for your scene, how to download and prepare them to import into UE5,, turn the gif into Sprite Sheets, and then how to turn those Sprite Sheets into an animated Flipbook that you can then place in your scene in Unreal Engine 5.1.

if you get the problem with one flipbook per frame, just rightlick in empty spot and create the Flipbook Asset yourself, its in Paper 2D then Flipbook, and then drag and drop all your frames at the bottom section. Probably a bug in some UE5 version (5.3 for me)

might be a little late but there is play rate settings in the detail panel once its in your scene, just change it to 0.5 for half speed ect

How to add it into widget bp?
this isnt working for me for some reason. When I click on create flipbook, instead of compiling them altogether, it makes a flipbook for each individual image. How do I fix this?

as an alternate to after effects u could just use a free online converter just beware you could get scammed if ur not careful
if it's a flipbook, switch the time node in the material to a scalar parameter, and then key that in sequencer, then it's frame locked
I really needed this today. Thanks for making. Was not aware of this Sprite Sheet component. Did not work exactly as you had shown as when creating the flip book if created one for every image. So I created flipbook manually and manually dragged images in then it worked. Subbed!
Awesome! Thanks for the kind words and I'm glad you figured it out. Sorry you had to do it manually tho! That sounds super tedious. I wonder why you couldn't do it the way I did.
@@JamesLuke Yes it strange that it did not work as you showed. To make it manually was not to painful. Did have to goto UE Docs to fine where the "Paper Flipbook" was located in the menus. For those who may encounter this same issue, if you right click in the folder you wish to create the Flip Book in, come down to Paper2D>Paper Flipbook this creates an empty Flipbook. You then rename the file and double click to open. I then selected all the sprites and dragged and dropped them into the narrow bar at the bottom of this window. As long as the sprites are in the correct order it will work. I change my folder viewport window to 'columns' so I could arrange ascending or descending order (just like in Windows Explorer) as for some reason two of the sprites were out of place. Then you select all the sprites, drag and drop into the Flipbook and will import in this order. Again, super helpful. Even if it didn't work as shown. Nowing it now exists I will be using this alot 😀

it is weird, when I create flipbook, it generates flipbook for all the selected files, not one flipbook :/ whyyy, edit: I had to create flipbook from one sprite, open it, and then drag all other sprites inside :/ very weird

Its maybe late but where is Sprite Actions its not showing up for me 3:36 cant finish the steps because there is no sprite actions..
hmmmm maybe you don't have a plug-in enabled? There might be a sprite plug-in you have to turn on in Editor Preferences that I didn't know about. It should just be there by default - but don't quote me on it haha going off the top of my head here.

we have a problem with flipbooks in virtual production, as they rack VRAM Memory in GPU pretty fast, and we have to constantly restart the engine to compensate for that. is there a solution to that?
oof now that sucks - i honestly have verrryyy minimal experience in virtual production and 0 experience using flipbook sin vp so I honestly can't help here. I wish I could!

sir i have a question, im also making a night time scene but the auto exposure setting blows out everything LUL do you use auto exposure or disable it?
haha yes I disable automatic exposure and set it to manual :)

I’m trying to animate a wine label with a movie of my metahuman. Using an MP4 is not good. No masking, clunky/buggy. Would sprites be the better way to go?
How come when I select all my files it doesn't give me an option to click on "sprite actions"?

So you're not importing gifs but png's resulting from converting gifs outside of UE

What version of UE are you using? Have you enabled the flipbook in either project settings or the plugins menu?

i opened the master material and add emissive param and multiplier in the emissive color slot

Can you see an easy solution to showing those gifs as an appearing and disappearing clips once a character gets hit?
Imagine, the target is far away, and, you shoot the target and if it hits, an onomatopoeia appears which, in a way that you don't have to set it's rotation so it appears like a UI widget item, in front of you. Not sure if I could describe it properly. Lets see :)

crap video - title lies, it's not about putting GIFs into UE, but using expensive 3rd party tool to generate a PNG list from it
Lol dude ae isn’t all that expensive. If you don’t wanna pay for it just (crack it) use davinci resolve. Does the same thing. You’re a big boy do some googling.
I did it for free no after fx or maxon... so many websites that convert gifs to png and then other websites to remove the background. Without the 'expensive tools' it just takes a little longer and has extra steps. Plus he even mentions in the video if you dont have ae use websites.
That being said great video! I just downloaded ae and got a free trial for maxon to get red gaint cause the extra steps can be abit tedious!
@@Clydiie Thanks! And yeah there's always a ton of other ways to accomplish the same task. Some are free and take extra steps, some you pay for (or pirate it lol) to have the process streamlined.
I'm a student so I pay $20/mo for all adobe products, and I get all Maxon products for free every six months.
For the button I pressed to bring up the effects, I press Control+Space. HOWEVER, this is only because I have a FREE plugin installed from VideoCopilot called FXConsole
@James Luke thanks bro I appreciate it (I'ma get one of my student friends to get maxon for me 😁) as for making a preset to make the png sequence. I'm sure I can just find a tutorial on that. Really appreciate this video it's gonna help me a lot with my project!
