    We just ordered the Dreamfoam Hybrid because of it’s weight. We did tell them we heard about Brooklyn Bedding from “I Love RV Life”. I enjoy your show. We’ve been Fulltimers since 2007 and half timers 10 years before that. We love RV life too!

    We did replace our king size bed with a queen short Dreamfoam Hybrid. Cut the platform and your video was very helpful. The bed weighed 85 lbs so our 80lb struts lifted it just fine.
    Enjoying your Stone Mountain video right now and decided to catch you up on our bed 4:33 conversion outcome! Thanks!

    I wished they had a location here in Utah. I have issues with my back, and hate to order something and find out its not comfortable enough. We also have a higher base in our Mini Lite 2506 because of the outdoor kitchen and the storage tray that goes underneath the bed. We too, also have to use steps to get up into the bed, along with not having much room on each side of the bed to get in.

    Placed an order with Brooklyn bedding since from what I can tell we both have about the same body build. Unfortunately it was going to take about a month to receive my new mattress and we will already be on the road by then so I had to cancel and go another route. Was surprised by the lead time.

    Our struts are for 80lbs and we will be going to a queen short. We also have a 22 Montana and are changing to a smaller mattress, I want the Space around the bed. Want to make sure the struts will lift the bed. They did not lift the king we brought from Cedar Creek. Your video was helpful.

      What size of replacement gas strut did you need to lift the bed. We’re at 80lbs now. Tried calling IGS but can’t reach that company. Would appreciate your input.

    • @iLoveRVlife
      @iLoveRVlife  Рік тому

      This is going seem crazy, but I used a set of weight scales to determine the load needed. It’s not a 100%, but got me in the ballpark. I lifted the bed about two feet while Joan held the scales on top of the base of the bed, then I used a short piece of wood between the bed platform and the scales. This gave me the weight I needed for the struts. Be very careful when you put the weight on the scales. Things could slip and smash a finger or two.

    My wife is short as well and we stayed away with tall pedestals. She also want to make the bed herself so we went with queen. Nice to be able to get around the bed easily. So far the gel mattress that came with our RV has worked. Very good point on the temp. RV windows can be refrigerator open doors. If we need to change out the mattress we keep this brand in mind.

    Sorry this is late. I just purchased a Brooklyn Bedding mattress using your discount code. Same model and downsizing from a king to a queen. Also installed my truck bed camera on my BakFlip tonneau cover like you did. Thanks.
    My fifth wheel king bed uses a metal frame with webbing. So I have to build a wooden platform. Do you use 1/2”plywood? How much wood is at the headboard where the hinges are? How is the plywood laid out, horizontal pieces or two vertical pieces? Any tips are greatly appreciated!
    Terry
    Thanks for the tips you are posting!

    • @iLoveRVlife
      @iLoveRVlife  Рік тому +1

      Hi Terry. It will take two sheets. With a queen mattress 60x80 you can run horizontal and hinge the first at 32 and save a cut on the next sheet. Cut them at 59 wide so you don’t scrape your leg on the plywood. Loving that BakFlip camera. Especially with it’s raining.

    I like your tip for the exercise mat under the mattress. We just bought our second trailer on Monday to be picked up a week from now. We bought the first trailer a year ago and it was okay but didn't fit us. The new one has a slide, much more room inside and solar installed. We didn't think much about the bed, so you got me thinking, what mods i may be doing. Anyway thanks for your tips, it gives me ideas of what I can do.

    Question, I just switched my king to a queen but I don't have the ability to take out the plywood since I'm full-time living in it. What is the best hand saw to use and would be safe to do without removing? Thanks in advance 🙂

    • @iLoveRVlife
      @iLoveRVlife  2 роки тому +1

      Hi Kelley. If the bed platform had reasonable overhang from the base, you shouldn’t have a problem. A hand saw will work, but will be a workout to cut. I’d suggest a jig saw with a course saw blade. Black and Decker had a good homeowners project priced saw in the $50 range available at Amazon or your big box stores. Have a vacuum handy to clean up. Good news, the jig saw doesn’t kick up a lot of dust.

    I’d like to switch to a queen bed as well. But on the Arctic Fox the mattress sits on a metal frame with webbing. No wood to trim. Probably would have to go to the Northwoods plant in Oregon to buy a queen metal base. But thanks for the tip on this mattress. It is definitely fairly priced.

    • @iLoveRVlife

      Interesting. Must be a newer model than mine, which has the wood frame. I *hate* the way it's flush with the side cabinets, because I have to literally lift up the entire front of the mattress to make the bed. Redoing the bed is at the top of my modifications list.

    What was the size of the new struts you had to put in when you changed the mattress. I know 80 lb struts won’t lift the new mattress.

    • @iLoveRVlife
      @iLoveRVlife  Рік тому

      It depends on mattress, plywood used, and where hinged. Models vary. Here’s what I did. I flipped a bathroom scale upside down and placed between the plywood holding the mattress and the platform. Laying in the floor I could look up and see weight on the scale. I added 10lbs to the weight shown on the scales. I know this isn’t very scientific, but gave me accurate weights for the strut pair.
