  • We expanded the bed frame
We bought an RV. We bought a used 2001 Fleetwood Expedition Diesel pusher. It is in great shape. But we decided that we wanted to spend some time remodeling the interior. It's the perfect time for a project like this anyway since almost everything is closed at the moment anyway.
We really liked our Cal King bed in our apartment at home. And we didn't want to give it up. So we had to figure out a way to make the bed frame bigger to support our bed. The added benefit of expanding the bed out is that we were able to add some storage to hold the new lithium iron phosphate batteries. We will have a video about our upgraded battery system soon. So subscribe and check back.

Good.. rectangular box of same level of bed as per required extended size placed next to bed on wall and mattress would work.

Yes, we have an 18” slide out for the closet. The bed is stationary. It’s been so worth it. We’ve had people come and look at the inside when we tell them that we did a remodel and they can’t believe how nice it is. Really makes it nice to be in.

Haha. Yep! Although, compared to the construction people we’ve worked with, we are extremely safe. Lol. They pull some crazy stuff sometimes.

I had a couple batteries explode and will say it’s a very scary thing. What saved us was a carbon monoxide detector. If you don’t have one next to the battery storage, at least think about it.

Yikes! What kind of batteries were they? We have a carbon monoxide detector in the back room since that’s where our engine is.

@@ryanandsu they were 12v in series and not that old. I’ve never seen or experienced anything like it. When you said they were under your bed I felt I’d at least share.

At what point did you realize it was a bad idea to put batteries under your bed?

It’s not. They’ve been great. A lot of builds put lithium iron phosphate batteries inside under beds or seating.

So maybe you have learned that you should have screwed from the top down and not from the bottom up. Clamps help. Also a little wood nails on all of it..

The batters should be under the bus and vented. You don't want the fumes inside with you. It will eat the bedding, and is bad for you.

Lithium iron phosphate batteries do not vent. They are safe in the space we have them.
