    In my motorhome, I had two couches facing each other in the rear area. I replaced one with a full length desk like yours and it made me so much happier. You paid much more attention to detail and it looks so nice that I'm inspired to redo my whole desk in a similar way. One thing I did was put a 2 drawer file cabinet at one end, which proved to be quite useful. But because there are two of you on the desk, there's no room. Great job and a really great video!

    I believe that is a very sturdy and clean modification. Of course some viewers cannot resist the urge to offer a shoulda, a woulda or a coulda...long after you have completed the remodel. Thanks for the ideas.

    I enjoyed watching your build, particularly the butcher block top. If you still have problems with back pain, I suggest that you modify your work surface height to approximately 27" high. I am guessing that the height you are using is more like 29" high, which is too high for using a keyboard for extended periods of time. I have been dealing with office furniture, both workstations and seating, for over 4 decades on both the east coast and the west coast and helping people with back pain issues. I have been able to help over half my customers with back pain by simply adjusting the work surface height from dining/executive (29") to typing/secretarial (27"). I suspect this is not something you want to undertake, especially after investing all this energy setting up your work station. This is just an idea going forward, should you experience continued back pain. Thank you for doing an outstanding job on the presentation of your project. Don't get discouraged if you come up with improvements on projects you have completed. It has been happening to me for decades. I'm getting better, but not perfect yet.

    I think it’s awesome that as young as y’all are that you are able to travel and see the country before it’s not possible anymore. Your project is very similar to a full interior rebuild I did on a Flagstaff 26’ trailer with 1 slide. I hated the dinettes in every RV I’ve had. They are very uncomfortable, and take up too much space. Your design to make a workspace and eating area that is both comfortable, and so much more useable space is great! Keep your videos coming, I enjoy them. Thanks,
    Scott

    We took out the rear bunks in our trailer to make a craft center for the wife. We put in the foamular and board in the cargo doors like you did. We added a cat flap into the board/foamular of one of the cargo door spaces. When we land, we open the cargo door to expose the cat flap behind it and put up a folding dog kennel for our kitty, on the exterior. We cut a hole in the kennel to match the location of the cat flap and put the kennel up on a table which is butted up against the side wall of the trailer. She goes out from the cat flap right into the kennel. We keep her litter box in it and she spends a lot of time out there, especially at night, to watch the world go by. She loves it.

      @@junehanna4293 Our coach is an older model and it doesn't have slides. We took out the dinette and the folding sofa. Now there's so much more room! We put a set of Sterilite dressers on one side and a smaller folding futon couch on the opposite site. I have enough room for a TV tray and a chair in the isle between the couch and the dressers that I use for my laptop. The next project is to build a folding bed platform that will span between the 2 front seats, remove the futon sofa and put a desk in its place.

    I had a travel trailer with the front booth type dinet setup. Yes it made into an extra bed that was never used but took up the front 1/3 of the trailer, was not comfortable and a pain to do anything with. I did the same thing, turned it into a tv lounge/computer room and was soo pleased with the new setup.

    another suggestion for accessing furnace: put a piano hinge on one side so you can just lift the top if you need to work on the furnace. You can re-nail the trim on the lid only and it will still give you a finished look.

    • @redsloane879

    • @geraldhenrickson7472
      @geraldhenrickson7472 5 років тому +3

      @Lina: How would a hinge help for the occasional, perhaps never, need to get at the furnace? It has got an unwieldy table sitting on top of it.

    • @westmountainadventures3606
      @westmountainadventures3606 5 років тому +3

      G Henrickson Yes. The legs on the table would have to be removed if there were a hinge. They may be able to slide the lid out from under the legs if they have to remove it. Either way...you can’t always think of every contingency before it’s done.

      A word of caution... Trailer Mfgs use the cabinets/dinettes to secure walls for reasons of trailer frame flex VS box structure flex happening at different rates when traveling.... Looks like your desktop should keep that integrity though... Keep an eye on your corners... 👍

    I love your new setup! It's so awesome that you have a huge desk, a nice big window in front of you, and space have space to eat a meal at a table. Pretty soon we'll be removing the more traditional dining table in our RV (not a dinette) and chairs to replace it with a large desktop and computer chairs. We won't have space in our 5th wheel to add a dining table in the same slide-out, but we typically have meals in the living room or outdoors when it's nice anyways. You can't beat having an ergonomic work station for TWO in an RV. Thanks for sharing!

    I pause at 6 minute to say I like your trailer. I like the simplicity of it, especially no slides. We’re on our 3rd travel trailer since 1978! Bought this one in 1998, be 21 years old in July! 7x25, simple still good. I just need to fix toilet flush thingamajig, it’s stuck now. I don’t get all this, “And it’s got a ceramic toilet!” stuff. This plastic one has lasted over 20 years and this valve sticking is first problem!

They let us see so much more of the actual process in such a short time. I also love how you handle the audio...adding in regular-speed audio clips of what is going on in the high speed action. Love your transformation! I have the same camper in a shorter version, I turned the dinette into a permanent daybed. I don't fulltime (yet), but weekend with my son and three dogs. I've also added a curtain that wraps from the daybed area, across the kitchen and ends on the otherside of the bathroom door. This gives each side a little privacy and when completely wrapped around makes the bathroom three times as big. This winter I am working on changing out the bathroom door for a sliding door since I like to leave it open for ventilation, but don't like that it blocks the walkway. Happy Travels!!

  • @geebonzo

    In a van you can carry some sort of chair, something with back support and reasonable padding, even if the chair has to fold. I had dinettes and dismal sofas in several RV's. This would really work for me, and I just don't understand why there aren't more options. I would want very useful and ergonomic space for eating and doing 'sit down' things. I feel the bed space should be as flexible as possible, with at least some possibility of using it as work or leisure space. In the standard 'stand up' vans, if you can configure the bed as double use space, it helps a lot. When people buy 38 foot fivers with double slides they are buying a lot of seating and open space, but it's too much to haul down the road.
    I felt the animals were very supportive of your project. It's just an exceptional design.

    Glad I found this video! We removed our dinette AND sofa bed and have two bays to close up and insulate. I wasn't sure what to do. I like your solution with the foam board insulation. I think we're going to do a wainscoting type of cover for the lower portion of the wall.

    Wow nice mod! It's awesome seeing a couple as young as my girlfriend and I doing this! We're not doing it full time like you two but we plan to take the kiddo along with us ALOT this year. Looks like you guys are in yuma here!! We live in the foothills and not far from where you filmed this if I'm not mistaken! Happy camping!

    Great job you guys! I wish I could do stuff like that but as a guitar player all my life I stay away from power tools.

    As far as future renovations on my camper go I’ve got bad walls all around so I’m going to take advantage of that and tear out the whole rear and chop 4 or more feet off and then work the other walls from there. Probably devise a bigger door so I can drive a motorcycle in or just out a rack on the back. Hate to have to drive the rv everywhere. Y’all have the right attitude about living the camper life and the only page worth following all the others seem too into themselves and the editing sucks but your videos are tip top all around and your ideas are similar to what I have in mind.

    The cats are cute, but that Rottie is to die for. Its probably a bit too long for many folks, but very well put together. The small table that you move in is a great idea. You guys make a good team. I also removed the dinette in a 23' Airstream.

    Good job! The table top and legs are real cool. Set another basket on top of furnace box for second cat, then they all have a special place. May I suggest: a bead of clear silicone under edge of outside door to seal it, and if you're going to re-use the spackle, add water to top to keep it moist, just pour off when you use it again. Over all I was liking your work as you demo'd the inside, so neat and clean, and good work with all of it. Looks great!
