Very informative. By far the best video on thumb systems. Answered all my questions, even those I didn’t think of. Thanks for taking the time to put this together.
I use Vise, as it was what the pro shop used when I first started bowling 6 years ago. I have not had any issues with the inserts so far. I do recommend having different sized inserts as my thumb does shrink and swell during the course of the day.
I noticed the JoPo 1-3/8 slug is much better even though I don't need that width. It's machined better, goes in and out smoother, don't need a tool. The plastic inner is much more snug. Cool thing is same size outter hole. I switched from Vise IT after 12 years for no reason other than jumping on the popularity of Jopo. I have like 7 slugs, from a few different shops, some have different pitches. It's like a mood thing, want more reverse put that one in. Now I'm starting my Jopo collection.
I didn’t realize Turbo has a reamer bit. I drill my own bowling balls and when I decided to drill interchangeables I chose Turbo (Jopo wasn’t out at the time) because it was the simplest to install and because it was the least costly at the start. With turbo all I needed was the bit. With Vise I needed all the different little parts and the Ferrari jig plus they were a lot more complicated to install. I found out the hard way that if you don’t get that hole really loose so that the outer just drops in that you’ll wish you did later. Much harder to get the inner in and out. Also even if it works good at the time, if that hole isn’t big enough I’ve had balls that I tried to use months later and couldn’t get the inner in the ball. I was told this was due to the core expanding with temperature change. To make a long story short I always have to sand that hole out a lot so that the outer drops in easily but thanks for the tip. I’m going to look into that reamer bit.
Yea I had no idea about the reamer turbo bit until now. There was a pro shop guy near me who I used to go to but stopped because I realized all my thumbs were so tight to get in (I use turbo system) and I’m like there is no way it should be this hard to get in so I went to another guy and all the thumbs he did for me dropped in on their own. Now I know why. First pro shop operator must have just been lazy and never used the reamer bit cause I had some thumbs that were so tight you could barely get them in and out even with that stopper tool. And he would just tell me oh well the ball swells a little in the summer that’s why. 😂😂
Great Video, thanks for putting this out there! Vise needs to seriously go back and do some redesign. What the hell were they thinking making it all complicated like that? Now I see why my PSO cringes when someone comes in and wants VISE IT's. I use JOPO and haven't had any problems yet.
I've been bowling a long time. Since long before these were invented. Turbo is the one I've always heard the most issues with. The tabs always breaking. I've used the IT for decades now. Had one "start" to break, but I caught it and my PSO fixed it easy peasy. I have considered the JoPo, but don't like the idea of needing a tool to remove the grip.
I actually use the Ultimate from Brunswick. Same simplicity as Turbo but without the color choice for outers. The shop i use, used it in my first ball that used interchangeables. I'm not bowling PBA events so i didnt see a reason to change to another system.
I use Turbo, but I also have one favorite ball with the Vise system. Is it easily possible to replace the Vise outer with a Turbo so that all my gear is the same?
Question, with JoPo, do you need to drill the hole for the outer at zero pitch and then drill the slug for the desired pitch? Or can you drill the outer at desired pitch? Does it matter?
The outer and inner can be drilled at the bowlers thumb pitch, I’ve also seen some that will drill the outer at 0 then drill the inner at the desired pitch.
I use Vise, theyre whats available to me in my area and it seems like almost every pro shop does stock them. I dont see JoPo in my area at all, and ive heard enough about Turbos coming out that i dont feel it would be great to go and get that in my gear
I only sell Turbo. Easiest to install and if used correctly - just as secure as Jopo or vise. Wish you would have talked about a fix for when the debris gets in between the outer sleeve and ball. I have my quick fix that I use, curious if anyone else has a fix. I use a 1 1/4 bit by hand on the inside of the outer sleeve to remove a small amount of plastic. Thoughts?
JoPo the GOAT

I use Jo Po cause its imo the most secure but i did have one get stuck and my pro shop got me the metal Jo Po tool. Now I have no issues.
Jo PO for me. I like the security of the locking mechanism. The only drawback is that it requires a tool for easy removal.
Using Turbo as that was what the pro shop offered and until I lose a few thumbs I will not switch.
My PSO convinced me to go from Vise to Jopo but I swear by both systems; they were outstanding for me and never had a problem.

Are you guys going to do a video of the best balls of 2024???
I have no issues putting in and taking out my JoPo with just my thumb. I haven't even bought the tool yet, but I will eventually.

My PSO uses JoPo. But, I like vise finger grips. So I order in my own finger grips now.
I use grip loc. the pre made ovals are great.
With the JoPo, do you necessarily need the tool to remove the inner? How tough is it to do it without one?
I have JoPo and it depends really. My inners come out easy but I have had to help others with theirs, and good lord do they feel stuck.

Jopo is cool but i keep wondering if the extra depth over the other systems changes the core shape more. Im guessing the difference is negligible?
I use vise it and I have my black ring glued to my thumb so it isn't in the ball.but I love my Brunswick ultimate
When are you getting sponsored by manscape?
Oh and it’s called a Custom Oval Drill Jig now. There is a story behind the old name, Ferrari Jig lol
JoPo al the way
