From the link you posted (the ebay) it actually stated that the cooler already came with thermal grease, so you didn't need to use the paste. "The heatsink come with thermal silicone grease. Before the installation, you need clean the old grease on your CPU or the graphics on the motherboard." You can actually see the gray square of the paste when you flip it upside down at 3:20.
Great video though, was looking to see what cooler would fit in this case and came to this video. Thanks for providing the link to cooler.

    • @HeathenAZ

It did not come with thermal paste. If you re-watch the whole video you will see, I actually cleaned the CPU 2 times because it did not come with thermal paste on it.

I would definitely not recommend using anything that came with it especially if they referred to it as thermal grease.

I have the same PC and I got the same heat sink as well as a VRM heat sink. I swapped out the heat sinks stock fan with a Noctua fan and used the stock fan at the front of the PC as an intake fan.

Dave, on the bottom of the cooler there looks to be a square pad with grooves on it. Does that get removed prior to fitting the cooler?

Thanks for the video. I suggest you edit out the times that you are going to get the pliers and zip ties. A little explanation of what you were doing or thought of the results would have been good. I'd lay low on the coffee before any technical work. It is easier to attach the cooler fan's power plug before screwing in the cooler. Thanks for the link for the cooler. Looking forward to more videos.

Thank you for your comment. Much appreciated. I do not make these types of videos for a living, so it wasn't perfectly planned out. I only made this one because when I was trying to figure out how to do it, there were no other videos out there. So, I thought I would post one of what I did for others that could not find a tutorial either. Just doing the best I could with the knowledge I had. As for the coffee comment. I have tremors that I have no control over. So I can't fix that problem.

Sorry, I don't have the measurements for the CPU Cooler. I would have to open up the pc again to get them. You can probably ask the question to the person on ebay from the link I posted. I have all 4 RAM slots filled and they fit just fine. The reason I went with this cooler is because I didn't want to go through the same issues of it fitting or having to modify it to fit. This CPU cooler may be a little more expensive, but it is hassle free to install and it cooled my CPU about 15c - 20c degrees over the tiny cooler they had.

@@HeathenAZ hey mister, hope u can help me,
im looking forwars to get this Dell XPS computer with the latest RTX 3060 Ti, may I ask, is the cpu cooler can be replace with brand such as Noctua? If can,is it hard to do or same like other computer (just need to have same lga type) or need to do special cutting or stuff since Dell try very hard to not allow people to tinker with their computer
Another question is, u think the latest XPS spec (i7 11700,16GB Ram,RTX 3060 Ti) with only 500w psu will be enough? Is it going to power throttle because of psu if it is under heavy load(gaming, editing, rendering)? Ive read that the psu in this xps computer the only thing very hard to upgrade

@@bighardlongthing You can install a Noctua. There is a video on here somewhere about installing a Noctua. From what I remember, they send it with a bracket that makes it work, but you need to buy 4 screws for it to work. That is the reason I bought this one. It did the trick and dropped the temp about 15-20 deg Celsius. You might get another 5 deg with the Noctua. Also, I heard something about having to update some firmware or drivers. Sorry, I don't remember. I think this was the video.

You may wanna install a vrm heat sink since the K CPU cooler doesn't blow much air towards it like the stock cooler does. I think it's a 612F7 (dell part number), you better double check on that.

@@HeathenAZ yeah, because if you do this, the first screw would be very OK. Maybe the second, the third, or 4 of them are OK, if you're lucky. But just think of when the all 3 screw are open, then all the force to keep the cooler into the motherboard will be put directly on the only 1 screw left.
When this happens, if the mainboard structural cannot stand that only 1 force, it''ll crack

Could you please take a look at your CPU cooler fan speed, HWINFO will be able to show fan speed in real time, but it is named as "Other (Docking)", acutally there are 2 with the same name, CPU fan speed should be the upper one. The problem I have is that after installing this K cooler, the CPU cooler fan stays in the range of 780-830 RPM and never changed, it doesn't matter if it is idle at 38C or full load at 80C, the fan inside that CPU cooler just blow in the same RPM. I called Dell but didn't receive an definite answer on this, I'll have to wait for their senior engineer to call back later.

    • @HeathenAZ
      @HeathenAZ  3 роки тому +1

As far as I could find. With the 8940, you can not control the fan speed. I have 2 fans running constantly around 1000 RPM and just surfing the web and playing a game that does not demand very much, my temps stay pretty steady at 40c. My CPU is not the k version though.

@@HeathenAZ you are right, Dell does not allow user to change fan settings, but the automatic PWM control should adjust fan speed according to load/temperature, mine doesn't seem to change speed at all.
