    I bought one of the 8940s with the 10700K, and the RTX-2070S and it already had the 500W PS and the upsized CPU cooler. I do want to add the front fan and move the HD cages which are not used but I think I should be good other than that.

      Similar situation here. Have a 8940, i7K w/the upgraded cooler, 3070 gpu, and 500w ps. Did you ever upgrade anything? Thinking of swapping out at least the exhaust fan, and maybe adding 1 or 2 fans to the front…

      I have an 8940 that came with a 360 watt PSU, a i7 10700 and a 1660 Ti. I installed a 120MM fan on the back and put the 80MM fan on the front. I put the CPU cooler from the G5 on, I upgraded the RAM to 128GB, I added 2TB NVMe, and I ordered a 500 watt PSU and an RTX 3070 Ti that has an 8 and 6 pin connector. It’s much longer though so I may have to remove the front case fan or move it higher but I’m not sure there’s much circulation higher up. The specs on the 3070 Ti say it uses 200 watts but Gigabyte recommends a 650 watt PSU. The i910900K I ordered uses 125 watts so that’s 325 watts not including peripherals and spikes. I probably should’ve built an AMD barebones kit, and I may yet! I just started doing video editing and that wasn’t a consideration when I bought this computer but now that I have it I want to see what I can do with it.

    Have you fooled around with the 8940 since this video? Always found it fun to do upgrades to prebuilts. Reminds me of working on cars, where you have what you have with some OEM parts, but sometimes you have to find a way to make it work.

      I tun a 3070ti personally, but it requires you to build an additional two PCI rails from off of the processor power lines.
      It worked great until I upgraded to the i9-10900kf, and now I have to run that processor at only up to 125w, or else I trip OCP.

    • @BJtheBassist
      @BJtheBassist 2 роки тому

      @Nfi0 Dell has the 500w computers listed with the 3070 as an option! You have both the 8pin and 6pin connectors already and that alone is good enough to supply 18 Amps! You can fit a GPU with up to ~230 Watts! I think mine was shutting off at 238W without the extra line.

      @@HardwareSenseHey there, I’ve been looking to upgrade my GPU, the comment here seems to indicate they have the exact same configuration of G5 5000 as me, and are looking into the same upgrade. One of my tech savvy friends has been warning me against getting a 3070 saying that I’ll need at least a 700W power supply, I’m not into computer hardware almost at all so I’m a noob at this, and am generally very cautious.

    • @NotClipzard

    • @SnapquesterMage
      @SnapquesterMage Рік тому +1

      @@NotClipzard Long story short, I got a 3060ti, which worked great and I loved it in the G5.
      But I got an itch to build my own after a string of GREAT sales (black Friday and other random deals) summer-November 2022. I also had a friend that was looking for a "midrange gaming PC," sold I him the G5 (w/2060S) for a very reasonable price, and kept the 3060ti for the new box (13600k, 32gb ram).
      But the 3060ti was rock solid and held many games fairly good at high (120+) frame rates, with reasonable settings and/or DLSS. Or looked gorgeous maxed out at 45ish fps. Overall pleased.

      Yes with that CPU, I am not surprised. But unfortunately nothing over 500w is available for that PC

    Great Tutorial as always.. I have the HP Pavilion 790-0029. I upgraded to the Hp 500 watts psu and I am running the Red Devil AMD Radeon RX 6700 XT in it. It's a HUGE card, but it fits nice.

    The 500w power supply in the XPS 8940 is actually pretty decent and more than adequate for my 3060.

    Their product description and marketing is a joke. I purchased the XPS8940 and it says in the description supports up to 3070, and I found it’s actually the 360w version when I got it.

      Well technically it does, if you get the 500w PSU

      @@HardwareSense Do you think the RTX 3060 can also run on the original 360w psu as well? I tried it by just connecting the 6pins to the 8pins hole on the GPU, and it works fine. But I am afraid it's not a long term solution

    I run a 3070ti thanks to an additional two PCI rails comming off of the CPU rails.
    This works great for non-K prefixed processors, but I have to limit my i9 K to 125 watts or else my computer will cut off.
    I could also limit the GPU to around 250 watts or even less, but I’ve made my choice!
