In video I will explain how the splenius muscles get overloaded, can become painful and develop trigger points.
For more info visit my dedicated page on those muscles on my website:

one more example i would like to add on repition overload from side to side is in the sport of olympic shooting...where one has to look on one side again and again to shoot.
I fairly sure I have a problem with these muscles. Pain at top of the head, temple and around the eye. Actually when I get bad headaches I get a full blown rash around my eye. Eyes become very irritated. When I palpate the splenius capitis it is very sore. Sever chronic stress for many years. Seems they are very weak and have no capacity. If they get exhausted maybe strengthening them will help for chronic tightness. Thank you
Could you make a video for a reverse curve in the cervical spine, or for scoliosis in the lower back?
thank you and please upload a video how to release the Omohyoid muscle
Please, which opposite muscles of splenius capitus and cervicis should be activated if my splenius is overactivated and overdone?
This video references checking out another of his videos that show how to self massage and release the Splenius but all I can find is this video...
Is it common for strained or injured splenius muscles to ache when you cough hard?
Not that I know of, but it might possible if you contract them heavily while coughing.
I was in bed, felt a pop sensation and immediate pain on this area of the neck, turning towards one side causes the muscle to spasm and it quite painful, could this be a splenius muscle strain? What do you think was the pop sensation I felt prior to? -Cheers
Thats hard to say what the pop was....I would go and see and doctor, and make sure your discs are fine.
Disc problem in the cervical spine are rather rare, but do occur. Do you experience any sharp pain radiating in your shoulder and arm of the affected side?
Does massage alleviate or aggrevate the pain?
Pain is localized from mid back of skull (occipital protuberance area) to upper most part of trapezium muscle region and feels like its deep within the neck not superficial. The area feels tender to the touch with head turning causing a very painful muscle spasm that is only releaved by slowly turning towards the opposite direction.
I did some small massage but the relief was negligible. I put on some muscle heat cream and a home made towel neck brace which was helpful temporarily. I exercise regularly and have seen videos of tendons snapping which is what I was most worried about when I felt the pop sensation then intense pain.
I would absolutely go and see a doc and let him do a thorough check on you. If your discomfort is that big, I would not search for a solution on youtube...maybe in a second step use the internet. But for now, visit a physician. I think that would be wise.
Hope you get better soon!
