I grew up in L.A. and used to live in Venice in the 70's. I remember roller skating on the boardwalk, hanging out in restaurants there, having beach parties on the beach. This looks like a Calcutta slum. I can't believe it, so changed from the Venice I remember so fondly.
The "man" has no care for these people. As they get richer the rest of us get poorer and poorer. And yes German in Venice, it has been getting worse. We go there weekly and tape and it is growing.
If you look at the history of Venice Beach, it seems to have struggled for like 60+ yrs. There are artlcles from 10 years ago saying they use to call it "the slum by the sea" and how it was going through a renovation and becoming more a resort town. Looks like it's back on the downslide. My sister lives near Venice Beach and she told me she lives there because that's where all the weirdo's live.
Sergio, dude no. What should happen is these people should get off drugs IMMEDIATELY and want to clean up their lives. But no- it's too hard for them & they are hooked on drugs. They don't want to change.
I am from South America, i was in Venice last years as a tourist, and I couldn’t stay more than 15 minutes. The energy around is so low and heavy for a beach area. South america has sad places to visit but i never been in a place like this before. A hell in a paradise if it’s even possible to describe. Humans struggling in a beautiful natural spot. I don’t understand yet what I witnessed. Unbelievable
We must give purpose and value to all life....maybe it's almost already to little to late....some folks are so hardened by life and suffering untold unimaginative woes and pain...it so sad to see the decay of WHAT WE CALLED HUMANITY....SO SO SAD WE VALUE THINGS MORE THEN LIFE...AND IT SHOW'S IN OUR ACTIONS AND DEEDS TO OTHERS!.😪😭🐥🐘

Growing up in the late 90's while attending Hollywood Highschool one of my favourite memories was cutting school one day and taking the bus to Venice Beach, I walked around and enjoyed the scenery, that once safe and chill space seems like a distant memory now
Ok, late 90's. that makes sense! It had started to gentrify by then. Early 90's Venice though, would have been way more dangerous than it is today.People tend to forget that fact. Fewer homeless back then, but way more serious crime and gang-activity. The Oakwood area just a few blocks in from the beach was gangland, Venice Shoreline crips and Venice 13 territory.
They haven’t done anything, they’ve made it worse. Handing out needles, passing laws allowing tents on city sidewalks, judges not enforcing the laws and letting people go free after the police make arrests...sad

What a shame, a beautiful iconic beech like this ruined by (mostly) drug addicts who don't want to get help. 70% are from out of state. No wonder, beautiful weather all the time, get high and live for free at a place most people pay good money to vacation at, with virtually no consequences. For years I've always wanted to visit Cali and see and enjoy this area, but not now.
Great video! but let's shift our attention to something productive. with the way the market is moving, we'll mostly hold for longer than 2030 to realize profit gain, I think a video on "How to profit from the present market" will be more effective, I mean I've heard of people making upto 250K within few months and I'd like to know how.
That right, I started investing sometime in 2018 and by late 2019, I pulled a profit of over $750,000 with no prior investing knowledge or skill, I was basically just following the guidelines set by the financial advisor I use, so you don't necessarily need to be a perfect investor or do the hardworks, just have a professional guide you.

I left LA after living there for 18 years. It’s nothing like it used to be. It’s a shame what happened to the city. It’s not just Venice, it’s all over Los Angeles.
I was born in venice and it breaks my heart to not only see such large homeless encampments but also see all the mom and pop shops shut down to make way for things like Starbucks
I've said it before.... you are one of the very few actually reporting this. Real journalism in any established media died a long time ago. Thank you for your important work.
Yeah I had no idea venice beach got this bad let alone muscle beach closing down. Back in the day I was a gym rat and all we thought about was Arnie and Franco working out on muscle beach.
A lot of places are like this now. I live in Australia used to skateboard in Melbourne when I was 16-18 years old was some people are were struggling then I went back when I was about 24 and the city just full of people living rough. In that time housing prices have exploded and if you were already on the edge then that would have tipped you over. We do have services that will help not like America with bandaids to the problem. It's just a failed system.

Shit, I drove over from washington state and as soon as I got over the mountain range from the east and saw this nasty brown cloud, I turned around. NO THANKS!! What an embarrassment America has become.
Yep, all of the taxpayers are leaving the state. There’s getting to be more people collecting benefits than there are taxpayers. The ones that are left paying taxes are getting shafted.
The girl being pushed in the shopping cart at the 3:52 mark of the video was my girlfriend of 5 years from 22 to 27. Her name is Kristina. At 27 she quickly developed severe paranoid schizophrenia and lost complete touch with reality. It was a very hard and traumatic experience for everyone... she has never been able to get the kind of support she needs and has been on the streets on and off for 10 years now or so just surviving. She's from Washington state but originally grew up in California. She's 37 years old now, believe it or not, and considering everything she's been through and the self medication/substance abuse, she has survived and held up better than 99% of people would. She was a care taker before she became ill and too care of elderly people. She loved kids and wanted to have her own. What's crazy is she can't keep track of anything, a phone, where she is half the time, let alone hold a job, but she remembers my phone number and still calls me once in a while. Do you see her there often or have you interviewed her ever? Coming across this was pretty mind blowing, but I knew she was down there
Spent my 20's roller skating and shopping at Venice Beach. I still have the New Wave Era earring collection i purchased from the vendors. VB holds a special place in my heart. It was always sketchy, especially at night, even back then. I think the tourism has saved it. I remember the huge NY style pizza by the slice for $2 and Van Gough's Ear (an off-beat cafe). I like how the bike riding LAPD knew you!! Great video, German!
Most of this problem has to do with people not wanting to live by rules, do as they please, buy drugs and alcohol, use their income in irresponsible ways. refuse to move to a location that they can really afford to live or claim some mental illness where they should be in a psych ward at a mental hospital not roaming city streets.
This has been happening for decades especially LA but now that hit its coastal rich neighborhoods people care. Theres been bigger camps like these in regular inland areas, a lot of child molestors in those camps

I am wondering if it can ever recover from this, or the whole state for that matter. So so sad....
That's because our government gives out billions in aid money to every country in the world while they ignore its own people. Nothing but modern day slavery on a country scale. And the civilians are the ones that suffer and are forgotten about.
Being homeless myself at one time, I can relate to their situation. My wife and I lived in our car for a time in Las Vegas, but are doing good now. Love your videos, keep up the good work.
I used to be homeless in NYC, graduated college homeless. Even took out student loans to pay my way thru school. Lived in a car for 6 months, stayed clean and presentable. It's simple really, stay away from substance abuse, have a goal in mind and have a strong work ethic to get you there.
My wife and I both found jobs and an apartment. We just got tired of being chased from to place just because we were homeless. We never bothered anybody, and stayed in our car, but some people just don't get it, or don't want to.
I am a paraplegic. I was in a car accident 2 years ago. You make my life better with your videos. I always wanted to go to Venice Beach. You take me there for that I thank you. My name is Steve and I'm from Cleve. Oh. Keep doing what you do.
I was personally thinking - you're got 30 cops cycling past all that - what are they actually doing? I don't blame them personally, they're constrained by the insane governor policies , but it's kind of depressing when law enforcement are watching UA-cam videos of all this rather than actively doing something to improve it.

In 1997, when my life was good, I had a "Cottage" on Ocean Blvd. "$900" a month. At around 12 or 1am, used to ride my bike to the beach, plop it on my shoulder, and walk to the shore, and sit on a lifeguard tower to watch the waves come in. It was the life. Now, I wouldn't walk to the market at that time of night. That cottage I had is probably going for $2000 - 2500 a month now :/. I used to walk from another location in Santa Monica near the college, to work at Tower Records near the 3rd St. Promenade, can't believe _they_ let the area go to hell like this . . . very sad.
If rent was still at 1997 levels and wages moved in step with inflation, there would be a lot less of this. The housing bubble/flip craze of the early 2000’s share a role in this more than any state legislative acts.

This is the effect of out of control capitalism. California deals with the brunt of homelessness, people from all over the country go there because of the mild weather. the sad thing is, the LA city budget is so big and they have the resources to actually address this problem but the local politicians just don’t seem to care enough
The US in general has more resources for homeless than 90% of the world. The difference is the people. I personally knew multiple people who moved from suburban Minnesota to LA and San Diego just to be homeless. What was so enticing? Cheaper heroin. People like that don't want change.

I left 6 years ago as well. I never remember Venice looking like this. There was always some homeless people around but never with tents and stuff if I'm recalling correctly
I am from New Zealand, but way back in 2006 I stayed in Venice while attending my Yoga Teacher training at Sacred Movement. I stayed at a place called the Cadillac Hotel, which I picked simply because the name made me laugh and the price was right. The walls were thin, and there was a German couple in the room next to me who sure did like to bang a lot. On my first day there, where I was feeling like a stranger in a strange land, just alone, weirded out, and generally unhappy, a little fellow with no legs, lying on a skateboard pushed himself over to me, and said "Are you ok?". The concern in his voice was genuine, and as dumb as it sounds, that one single moment, instantly altered my perspective and mood. I smiled at him, and told him I was fine. That seemed to satisfy him, and he scooted himself away. While I saw plenty of homeless people at Venice, I never once felt threatened, and I felt an odd affinity with them, as if I'd travelled so far just to be with people that I somehow felt connected to in a way I could never hope to explain. I think it came down to this. In Venice, I felt normal, and I've always struggled to find that feeling anywhere else, especially here at home. I will probably never visit Venice again, but I love that place, and there will always be a part of me there. I genuinely hope Venice, and by extention the rest of the U.S. finds a way to heal itself, because it is a country in great pain and with a lot of healing to do, right now. Peace.
I remember when I was I kid in Morocco back in 1984 watching Turbo break dancing on Venice beach , I was fascinated by America ...... just so sad what this country has become
Should you be sad? USA sowed. USA reaped. When you put your future in the hands of politicians, puppets of the Elites, this is what you get. I never trust any politicians. I judge them on a case by case basis. So I am neither party. I believe all the candidates of either party were pre-chosen by the Elites/the military industrial complex/the big corp./the Big Pharma/Wall Street bankers/Central bank/the Swamp/the Deep State/the Illuminati/the Free Masons/the cabal/the "haves" or whatever names you wish to call them. So no matter which candidate won the election, POTUS is expected to carry out their agendas. The main purpose of POTUS is for them, NOT for the people. Those POTUS who choose to "go astray" will end up like JFK. Dig? But I uphold the Constitution. So don't label me as Trumptard or liberal because I am neither. Contemporary American populace are mainly dumbdowned. Most are being "played" and aren't aware of it. They are misled to hate the Russians, the Chinese, the Iranians, the North Koreans, the Syrians and now the Venezuelans, whereas the real culprit for all the problems were them, the Elites. Just follow the money. They got all the wealth. Just the Rothschild family alone already own over half of world's wealth. If the Chinese is the problem, why didn't they own over half the world's wealth? It goes the same with the Russians and the Iranians and the North Koreans and ......? Have you ever thought about that? They misled Americans to bark up the wrong tree so your attention could be diverted to some innocent fool who don't even understand why suddenly they become a target for attack. The smart ones would ask why the Elites wish to divert attention to the "bottom pile of have nots", to some innocent country or race of people for attack. Read the French history. What happened to Queen Marie Antoinette, one of the Elites at the time? Remember her arrogance?? She was the one who said, "If the peasants cannot afford bread, let them have cakes." How heartless and inconsiderate! So the "have nots" started a revolution and overthrown the Elites. The queen was beheaded. So you think the Elites of now want the "have nots" put focus on them? Again, look at the Chinese Cultural Revolution that the western world usually used the incident to demonize China as evil because millions were killed. But if you study the history and search for the truth underlying the incident. It was also a civil war where the "have nots" overthrew the "haves". It was because China had one of the biggest population in the world so an internal war would generate a much bigger casualty figure. If there were only 500 people against 300 casualties could at most, be 800. But if you have millions on each side then casualties would be bigger. It's not because the Chinese were more evil or the Communists were more evil. It was because there were more people on each side that the death figures were so high. You might ask, how is it there are so many elites in China? No there wasn't but they have enough wealth to "buy" enough "have nots" to become their mercenaries to turn against each other. Now you get the picture? Don't take my word. Go look for the "income distribution curve" of USA and see if what I said holds water. Take a good look at it to see if it's a problem by itself. If top 10% of the population earns 90% of the total income whereas the bottom 90% earns 10% of total income, how could there NOT be a problem? Besides, ask yourselves if the US government spent most of the tax money and the borrowed money on military assets and running military bases around the world. How much is left to trickle down to the ordinary citizens. You don't suppose Trump added all that tens of billions of $ of military assets (on top of the original hundreds of billions on military spending) just for shows, do you? Expect to fight more wars for the benefit of the military industrial complex while your loved ones die fighting. When they collapse the economy (which don't hurt the Elite class) and the only income available is by enlisting in the armed forces, let's see if your sons and daughters and loved ones will be forced to enlist on their own will. Simply put, you want food on the table? You enlist and fight for the sake of fattening the pockets of the Elites. Besides, there might come a time where the righteous, peace-loving, God-loving, truthful and honest people of God needs to flee the country as with Lot who needed to flee Sodom in biblical times. Have you ever considered that Trump's wall is meant to keep you in instead? Why do you think the banks install a limitation of how much money anyone of us can withdraw each time? Why do you think they aim for a cashless society? If your money stays, they figure you'll stay. Just follow the money then you'll know I speak the truth. Now it takes a civil war to get back the country. There's no two ways about it. But contemporary Americans, not like the forefathers, don't have guts and the determination. It's always the Elites that matters, never the ordinary guys - - - evil, unjust, selfish, nasty, greedy, cold-blooded, corrupt, sickening, mean, obnoxious, disgusting are what the Elites brings to society. Ordinary people are expendable and they are expected to sacrifice themselves for the sake of fattening the pockets of the Elites. That's reality. Whether the Elites are of the military industrial complex or the Wall Street bankers or the Central Bankers, it's all about them, not you or your kids nor me. The contemporary American populace are too dumbdowned to realize that they are the gladiators of now. Throughout history, it has always been a struggle between the "haves" and the "have nots" - - - the "have nots" needs to be dumbdowned and distracted so that they can never pinpoint that the culprit to all their problems are the Elites. Occasionally Elites do fail in their cover-ups which becomes deadly - - - - the French Revolution when Queen Marie Antoinette got beheaded; the Cultural Revolution in China where the rich, powerful Elites lost their possessions, social status, power and even lives. They feed you with entertainment to keep you complacent. They control main stream media to keep you informed of what they want you to know and believe. They will manipulate the financials and economy to impoverished you so that you need to obey them to survive. They will create enemies for you to let you let off steam and at the same time to distract you, the "have nots" from realizing them as the true culprits. Like it or not, that's the game. Though I am neither party but I believe in the Constitution. Period. How you want to classify me it is up to you. By the way, I think if you do prepping in USA, your gold and silver might be confiscated by the government. Imagine a government that is completely broke, what can you expect out of it. Didn't Pompeo already admitted that they lie, they cheat and they steal? So prepare to fight the military one day because they will clear you out of your precious metals.

They say California is 5 years ahead of the rest of the country. This is what the rest of us have to look forward to.
This is the effect of out of control capitalism. California deals with the brunt of homelessness, people from all over the country go there because of the mild weather. Cost of living is extremely high, in most places you don’t stand much of a chance of purchasing a home even if you make decent money.
@@deadtome44 Dude, this is the effect of irresponsible social programs that are most likely being embezzled by politicians. The cost of living certainly isn't high there because of capitalism. Used to hang out here every weekend. Left Los Angeles 6 years ago. Sad to see it's got worse
Peace.
