In the Netherlands being homeless is illegal; they force them off the streets and into long term treatment facilities; as in years. This actually helps them and saves their lives. This is cruel to let them live like this until they die from an over dose.

Forced institutionalization is illegal here bc of horrendous medical practices and abuse decades ago. Definitely time to bring it back using modern methods.

In Republican led cities they enforce the laws and codes we have that says this is illegal. In Democrat led cities, they take taxes from the working people to clean up their crap week after week.

Liberal...not communist...living in the gutter is not freedom. I know you are being sarcastic ( I hope..but with Americans it's possible you are serious.) However, the woke politics is turning the left to the extreme, so it is a threat to american capitalism.

I can not even begin, to imagine your pain, as a mother. I'm so sorry. I am now a widow, in East TN, my husband was found dead, in San Diego last Aug. He was an amazing husband, father, son, uncle and friend, his mental illness won, and then came addiction. He was out in Tempe Arizona for 2 years and the San Diego for about a year, before he passed. It took almost 7 months to get his autopsy results, because there are so many overdoses, out there, and it cost right at $15k to get him home and buried. I pray that your son, gets straightened out, and you don't have to face the heartbreak of losing him to this. So sad. When I told our daughter her father was found dead, she said, now his mind is free, and that's the only plus side I can see out of this mess. We couldn't get him to come back home, he would say, they take care of their homeless out here, and the drugs are cheap. Idk the answer to this vast problem, but I feel in some ways, the homeless is enabled there and that's a huge part of ppl renaming in CA.

I live in Long Beach. I'm surrounded by homeless people in my home. Every window in my home I look out, I see this scene. It triggers my anxiety and depression so bad, I seldom leave (I'm on the bus, which is a horror to ride) my home. Truly disheartening because I live 4 blocks from the beach and I'm afraid to walk alone day or night.

How sad . Our family visited there 10 years ago in 2012 . There were a little bit of homeless, but it was booming and loud and vibrant. Music and families with children were present in the daytime. I remember buying some expensive dresses in Venice that day and restaurants full of families. It breaks my heart. We also visited San Francisco. It wasn’t so bad as it is now. We visited Chinatown and Japantown. We felt safe.

Went to Venice Beach for part of a vacation in the 90's. It was so cool to be walking along the beach where many movies have been shot. Walking along and so many tourists, no homeless, cool exhibits and people just doing odd and weird things, artists painting people, beaches full of swimmers and volley ball and so many cool, unique shops. Got my ear pierced while I was there. Very sad to see it like this. I hope in the future it becomes great again. It also shows the state our society is in because this homelessness and poverty seems to be in almost every city.

Why the fk no one DARE TO REPORT TRUTH FACTS & DARE TO CALL OUT RIGHT NAME??
There are alots case druggies homeless get free house/apartment & when they’re high on drugs METHS losing mindset, they’re burn the whole units!!

There are ppl after accident or bad healthy problems, can’t working lost all savings & not good at management their saving moneys & end up in street.
BUT MOSTLY THESE PPL IS NOT DRUGGIES, THEY STILL HAVE BASIC MANNERS & LOOK CLEAN, SOME STILL WORK AS PART-TIME JOBS, OR LIVIN IN CARS.
You can fk see these type of HOMELESS - they’re deserve second or even third chance, they’re deserve help!!
BUT 80% HOMELESS IN THIS VIDEO IS DRUGGIES ZOMBIES!!
Alots of them born in normal family, born with healthy body, but because addict to drugs & bad habits, in their Youngful day they think become druggies high on drugs & act like thugs is cools. It’s all personal choice & bad habits & throwing advice/help always.
ONLY IN US, DRUGGIES ZOMBIES & THUGS GET ALL FREE STUFF, MONEYS & BENEFITS.
Druggies zombies & thugs have MORE FREEDOM, MORE HUMAN & MORE SUPPORT THAN LAW ABIDING ORDINARY PEOPLE!! Bullshit ridiculous.
So these druggies & thugs can have moneys to buy drugs to fulfill their shit, high & higher then spending their free time going around cities doing route “sleep - then eat - then use free moneys from gorvement taxes buy drugs to get high” THEN GOING AROUND ATTACK PPL & ROBBERY, STEALING
TO HAVE MORE MONEYS TO BUY DRUGS TO FULFILL THEIR FLYING HIGH.
KEEP GIVE DRUGGIES ZOMBIES & THUGS MORE BENEFITS & FREEDOM TI ACT LAWLESS!! Give them more support & protect over than LAW ABIDING ORDINARY WORKING CITIZENS!!

Many of the homeless on Venice Beach came from other states. I know because I was one of them a couple of years ago. Spent a few nights on the beach until I sorted some things out while I kept my belongings in a storage facility. Never done drugs or anything, just moved out here from another state with no where set in stone to live at that time. Thanks to God, it was a short lived experience and situation. I've noticed that mental health problems seems to be the greatest factor with the long term unhoused individuals. I hope and pray that they're able to get the help they need.

@nf2751 putting a bandaid isn't going to heal continued bleeding from the infection which is the source of most of the problem...drug abuse, mental illness...in my opinion, like kids those folks need effective treat if made "wards of the State" as we do with minors we have a better chance to solve this challenge than throwing Billions at inane and vapid solutions, like a stab in the dark which has created an industry for "opportunists' who milk the system like "griffters". Those resist treatment, section them off society altogether until they decide that it is to their "best interest" to abide by the "norms of decent society". Treat their behavior as the symptom of a deeper condition of mental illness or behavior induced by drug addiction. Clearly, feeling good as good folks, being advocates of actions that have shown as failure in the past are not a positive path to solve any of the conditions that we all see here and have been seeing for years and years!

The biggest problem with the homeless issue is that politicians pay lip service to the problem. Their idea of addressing the issue is starting a "task force" full of politicians who will just do photo ops claiming they're working on the problem (they're not) and voters are gullible enough to believe them year after year. Returning people to the states they came from is a start and also to limit services for a period of time unless they agree to go inside.

That’s my hometown 😢 there’s always been a presence of vagabonds along the boardwalk. There used to be a parking lot just for people who lived in campers and cars. When I was a kid Venice was occupied by working class families. So was Santa Monica. But then the developers came through and pushed everybody out and many had nowhere to go. Many of the older homeless grew up in houses with families there. The new homeless though, those are a different breed. A lot of them aren’t from here. They’ve traveled from outside of CA because it’s a lot easier to be homeless here. Thanks for giving us a genuinely objective view of what’s going on currently

My plane arrived late at night and I thought I would be able to rest at the airport ( try to get a bit of sleep if I could) But security were checking on me every hour or so..obviously to prevent homeless people using the airport. Sometimes when I'm travelling or even when I arrived in ireland after spending all my money abroad after covid ( different story) I sometimes stay up all night or sleep on a park bench for an hour ( very difficult in winter ) but at 60 euros a night for a hostel I would sometimes do it to save money after my late shift in a hotel. Hard work though!!...I see why the homeless go to LA...the climate is good. However, being homeless is hard work even if you arecin good condition and not on drink/ drugs.

The homeless problem will never be solved until we recognize that there is a difference between homeless people on the street willing to accept help to get back in the main stream and vagrants living their chosen life style. Our resources should be directed toward those willing to accept help not being tolerant and cleaning up after vagrants spreading blight throughout our communities.
