The Pot - Danny Carey (TOOL) and Kt Ruth Harms

- Reformed's final gig got a surprise guest, Danny Carey! (the drummer of TOOL) Terrible sound quality on my iPhone but fun to have this memory of my daughter, Kt Ruth Harms and her old band (Jacob Wilder, Grace Goyanes, Michael Wisz) playing with Danny. He could not have been nicer or more supportive of the kids. Burbank Music Academy continually provides amazing learning opportunities for their young musicians. This band is no longer together. And this is totally just a "proud parent" video. You can also check out a video of the full band playing with Danny here: • Cover of "The Pot" By ...

They even nailed the part where you can't see the singer for 95% of the performance.
I laughed so hard at this comment
I second the emotion
Or hear her
LOL Well done.
Actual lol
Whoever this student's dad is on the drums is doing a pretty okay job.
I can't tell if this is joke or not but that's Danny Carey lol
:)
😂😂😂😂😂😂
@@braydenjohnston324 come on bro, you gotta admit it a pretty funny comment man hahaha
I was trying to think of something stupidly witty to say myself, but the dude who commented nailed it 😂😂😂
Touché dude 😂😂😂
Was working on my own Tool related stupid comment and read yours and now I fold hahaha
Take ‘The Pot’ homes, this is your hand 😂
That big kid on the drums is going places, incredible abilities, i close my eyes and its like listening to TOOL
Haha. Gold.
yes, someone will sign him up, when grows up :D
Winner of todays internet comments
Need to test that kid for three types of anabolic steroids and a low-grade beaver tranquilizer.
Lolll
The way he holds back to not overshadow the kids is as cool as his obvious joy playing with them.
When you’re at level 100 and jump back down to level 2 just to have fun
I want to agree with you, but I am at a 1 and those girls he is playing with are DEFINITELY better than 2. Probably more like a 50. I hope they appreciate who it is they are playing with. My orchestra teacher was Miss. Bowers. She was great, but she was no Danny Carey.
Yep, you nailed it. He has repetedly done that and always looked so happy doing it. Have to agree with Eric, closer to 50 than 2.
This video should be called Danny Carey: Smurf Account.
Yo, as a bass player, that bass player was at least level 19. She gets pre-amps unlocked at level 20
IDK dude, they kinda played the shit out of that song. At least level 99.🙏
Love how Danny looks like someone's uncle that is just stoked the band let him join in.
Lmao !!!
Hahaha man. Me and some buddies jam from time to time. My dad used to drum. He joined us one time. It’s like he had been waiting for the call all his life. Great memories.
Just glad to be here thats exactly the look

He's got potential

Drummer is trying too hard. Show off. Needs to go back to his day job.
I think I've seen that drummer play with a band at couple of weddings
i genuinly shed a tear seeing Danny having such joy supporting those kids. isn't that beautiful? 🥲
Not gonna lie...made my allergies act up too.
Yes
He was giddy. Having a great time.
Hear ye bro, got me too
Me too, man. Especially at the 4:41 mark- his expression is such pure joy it's hard not to be moved.

Oh man....you nailed it! LMAO....it's like watching a category 5 hurricane being harnessed as a small company's water cooler....but it shows you what a cool guy Danny Carey is....
what a nice man!
Mad props to the bassist, lockstep with Danny, no fear. She's going places, for sure.
And does anyone have a bad thing to say about Danny....like, ever? He's in it to play. God bless him.
And the guitarist is killing it,the singer does well to,hard to cover maynard.....
Everytime I see Danny, he's Smiling! 😊 😀 😁
And that's a Great Achievement!, in and of itself!... :)
The bass and guitar in this song is quite easy in my opinion
@@manishthapa7934 yeah may be easy in bass and guitar but keeping in time with everyone is tricky as the time signature changes and feels like it’s in 4/4 when it’s not .
The most impressive part of this is seeing him not miss a note while also making a point to not blow anyone else off the stage with his volume.
Dude is in complete control.
Yeah, but he misses some notes. And i like it anyway!!
@@pilotyourhead2434 now I'm not a drummer and i know nothing about this but i'm assuming he probably missed notes because he hasn't all of the other drum parts in that kit lol.
@@kiretnek6066 I was thinking the same thing! Even in my head I was stuttering thinking about all the cymbals he would normal hit and trying to boil it down to 2.
@@kiretnek6066 He also plays the drum beat much different than the record in the beginning part of the song. He plays too many kickdrum notes. Probably a combination of being on a kit that's strange to him, and just from not having played the song in a while.
@@kiretnek6066 I play drums, and it can be _really_ challenging playing on someone elses kit that you are not familiar with.
Any bassist who’s that young and can play that well with Danny Carey without pissing their pants deserves my respect ... And yours.
Hell, she was blowing me away with her calm demeanor, her nonchalant runs and her ability to stay right there in the pocket.
She's a teenage girl. She probably thinks everybody over 30 is lame.
@@timhoran1638 Teenage girls care what everyone thinks, just like teenage boys. All teenagers think that all older people are lame; it is part of the growing up process. Does not mean that they don't care what they think.
It has been my experience that many adults have never stopped caring about the opinion of others. Pretty sad actually.
I mean, why care about the opinion of some simpleton that you don't even know? The woke crowd surely seems to.
You can see around 3:30 where Danny affords her the respect too. What a genuinely awesome human being

this is probably my 5th time coming back to this video. I love this guy. The look on his face is priceless. He really loves doing this...
SMD! Awesome to see you here
the video of him playing at that sports game is the same. He looks so happy!
Me too! I keep coming back to it as well; when I was a young musician I would have LOVED the opportunity to jam with a hero. Danny obviously loves playing w/ these super talented kids, and I love to see that. Frankly, a lot of ADULT players couldn't nail the time signature on this tune. Plus, he managed not to reduce that kit to splinters, with his 6' 5" self! Well Done, DC!
Just your 5th time?!
More like 20th
Favorite part of this video is that he never once tries to claim the spotlight. He holds back truly for the entirety of the song so that it's about the others. What an awesome experience.
He has to do that with his own band too 😀
Danny Is a God he knows when and not shine. He loves jamming with every one. Sik
Danny looks like he pulled a prank on everyone and is waiting for them to notice
Dude was just letting off silent but deadly farts on every beat.

As a life long musician, her just casually cranking it up at 4:13 is the most rock star move you can pull. especially next to Danny Carey
4:13 on she just shines. And the eye contact and smiles at the end when they both stop on a dime is just just gold!
For me it’s about 1:20 where jovial happy Danny seems to shift gears like “these kids can play, it’s ON!” masters his craft for awhile with some studly young musicians and then jovial happy Danny returns at the end again.

Chris S the plexiglass is primarily for sound insulation
Proof positive that you don't need an expensive drum kit to sound like Danny Carey.
You just have to BE Danny Carey.
Bet quote I have seen on Danny Carey!!!
You have to be Danny Carey to be Danny Carey... got it
PagingDrFumbles it’s actually a really nice DW kit. Just not fully mic’d up and is recorded on a cell phone
I like your avatar.
actually this is proof danny carey needs to be on danny careys kit to sound like danny carey. danny fucked up like a whole bunch of times which is clearly because his kit setup is like an extension of his playing, so putting him on this kit which is drastically different to what he's used to was really screwing him up. that and the fact he couldn't hammer the drums like a sledgehammer and a lot of danny's speed and accuracy comes from his power
Good job by the kids. Tool isn't exactly entry level stuff to be covering at their age.
Impressive work from Danny too just for not breaking that kit.
Yea with his strength it would break pretty fast happily he did it very quietly
It's a Drum Workshop kit, it's going nowhere.
i'm back again...last time i gave props to the Danny Carey for doing this but i completely forgot to give the ladies their respect. You girls did a great job too! (my 6th time watching this lol!)

I think it just shows how impressed he is with these kids and what an odd situation it is. But very cool. You can tell he's loving it.
Cause he is actually playing a tool song in the video.
Danny: Where's the other twenty seven drums? Nevermind Ill make it happen.

That's a "counting smile" that got stuck. You can see him counting it off. Maybe it's a drummer thing, but I recognize the face. Not to say it's not genuine, but that's the basis for the maniacal look.

The drummer doesn't understand TOOL...

😂😂
He doesn't "over play" at all during the song although he very well could have done so just to show off his skills. He plays like a true drummer, he plays WITH the music. Class act.
KJ P my only criticism of Carey is an overuse of the crash. Besides that his writing is superb. What the other artists in the band play is so subdued it’s super impressive with how he moves the song forward and keep it interesting.
Serve the song.....First rule of music
Overuse of crash? Hell no. He uses it fucking brilliantly
Your profile pic is a particularly classy act.
Lol... LMFAO. OMG stop...
Even with a decade gigging as a bassist, if Danny sits in with us on his OWN song it's going to be hard to resist the urge to stare directly at him for fear of not being locked in for even a beat. But he's such a lovable guy, he probably wouldn't even care.
This is my favorite thing on youtube. How freaking adorable is it that he's smiling from ear to ear the whole time!
Honestly Danny looks the most excited of them all.
It feels different when you have passion for music and show it by playing something you had partial creation in
He's the only one who knows the song without having to be utterly focused on playing
I would too if I was playing along jail bait
and its easy for him , chilling :-)
if a was 10 years old playing next to danny i wouldn't be exited either.. more like terrified haha

When you can't find a drummer for your Tool cover band and just get Tools drummer instead 😂 Also weird watching Danny Carey play "quietly"
Josh Cole this is like watching that one Nirvana concert on MTV unplugged where they gave Dave smaller sticks so he wouldn't drum as loud lol. Danny's smiling though. cool video.😂😅
Josh Cole If you are a drummer as have ever been told to keep it down then you know he's playing to the room and you just appreciate how good it sounds.

We know Danny is a hard hard hitter, I believe he was very respectful of the borrowed drumset, also he could have been louder than the other instruments...nice video
Gotta do what ya gotta do in contrast to your environment haha. Soft voices and instruments gently played calls for softer hits. fuckin 10/10 performance
What a great moment for all! I heard a story told that back in early 90's when Tool was unknown but opening for Henry Rawlins a new fan showed up to the concert but tix were sold out. The fan ran into a guy and the guy was Danny Carey who found out the fans plight. Instantly pulled the fan into the club, he and his friend have been Tool fans ever since! Looks like Danny is still the same guy playing his heart out with this skilled band with a huge smile on his face!
Its so awesome to see dads and their daughters playing music together at the bingo hall is still a thing 😉.
