Watching this video reminded me that you are one of the best "Shooters" out there. Have to learn more. Really enjoyed the video and appreciated the fact that you appreciated your own "shots" when you made a good one. Kinda feel like I deserve a shot at a fish whenever I make "the perfect cast" too. Be well.
Good seeing a good old boy from Kennett fishing and filming in the Ozark. Hate to see you haven't uploaded in he last year. Tell Billy Don Hi from me. Look forward to more videos in the future.
Hey Mike. Great video. I have shot docks for years and it's a great way to catch crappie. I have friends that carry a 12 ft. rod with them so when the crappie get finicky, they will vertical jig under the dock floats with the long rod. Absolutely deadly technique after you catch 2-4 fish out from under the dock. I have also noticed that the bigger fish that are caught are on the longer rod with the slower presentation. Hope this helps. Thanks again for the videos.
Just recently stumbled on to your You Tube site. You do a great job of sharing your fishing skills with your viewers, beautiful. Having lived and fished LOTO then moving closer to Truman and fishing there I really appreciate how much the weekend anglers can learn by watching your fishing videos. Even an old guy like me can and does learn something, thank you. JD in Leeton,MO
Love the sling shot moves. Never thought of it. What was the kind of jig where you using with looks like a white grub or bait. Thanks for the great video
Great video. Excellent info on side imaging. Now.........get ya a chair on the front deck and a cooler beside ya for a live well and get serious on them.
I have a detachable sonar/down imager for my kayak. I can adjust the transducer to shoot off to the side instead of just straight down. Would this work is a makeshift side imager?
Hope to see you on the water. Would love to learn a little to pass to my son. He will be on the boat with me. We’re on the bottom side of lake valley golf club
Looking for advice. In my area I have 3 municipal reservoirs to fish. We don't have the docks and such to shoot like in this video. The lakes are mostly flat bottomed with the only structure being the natural contour of the land, ie creek channels, rip rap around bridges, bridge pillars, and natural points. For the most part the water is anywhere from 6-30 deep. What would you say would be the most productive method for fishing for crappie in these types of lakes and what baits would you think would be best? Thanks for the help and I love your channel.
Many methods could work, depending on the time of the year, water temp, etc. Long line trolling of jigs or crankbaits with higher water temps. Slow trolling (spider rigging) can be good year round. An old fashion jig and bobber or minnow and bobber are hard to beat. If you find the bait fish you will find the crappie. Study the natural structure like drop offs, even if slight, and edges of any natural creek channels. Good luck and thanks for watching.
I would be happy to do one but there are a lot of videos on that topic out there. Just go to UA-cam and search "how to clean crappie" or "how to filet crappie".
Just subscribed. Really enjoyed you showing the side imaging on sonar under docks and sharing why you chose the docks you chose to fish.Great information. The "how to" is much appreciated. Could you tell me what brand, model, and length of your favorite dock shooting rod(s) and reel (s)? I have a 6 foot B&M sharpshooter rod, but would like a 6.6 foot or maybe a 5.5 foot rod and reel to along with the one I have. I will be using exclusively for dock shooting for crappie. Thanks.
When shooting docks I like to use a shorter rod in the 5' to 5.5' range. 6' is definitely my max for shooting docks. It's much more manageable when you're up close to the dock. With a long 7' rod, the rod tip likes to dance left or right when you pull it back. I alternate between a light or ultralight action. I like shooting with the light action more since it's a bit more rigid and the tip doesn't move left or right as easily when pulling back. You can use an ultralight if the bites are really light. For me, line watching is the best way to catch the light biters. If it's windy I use the ultralight since the line likes to dance in the wind. I'm not super specific on my rod brand with crappie rods. I have Crappie Maxx rods and Bass Pro Micro Lite rods. I've been wanting to get an Ozark Rod Dock shooter or an ACC Crappie Stix. I'm leaning more toward the ACC because it's a 5' 5" instead of 6ft. However, I'm picky with bass rods! As far as reels, I like using a Shimano Sahara 1000. I own three of them and have loved them. Some people prefer using underspins when shooting docks because you don't have to flip the bail all the time. To me it's no big deal. Another important thing for me, is using HiVis line. I used to use clear, but now I always use HiVis with crappie. I normally get 4lb Crappie Maxx Super Vis line from Bass Pro. It's like $8 for 3,000 yds which is plenty!
B & M have some nice dock shooting rods. I use a 6' rod for heavier baits but I have some older 5'5" Allstar rods I use for smaller baits that I love. I can control the shorter rods better, especially in tight situations. With that said, I know fishermen who are deadly with longer rods. It comes down to experimentation and time on the water to find out what you are comfortable with and what works best for you.
@@MikeBakerVideos I was referring to line size and rod length. All my rods are for bass...thanks. I can't skip so shooting them under is the way to go.
You are right. Wish I had time to pull some cranks at LOZ. Have been busy fishing the Crappie Masters trail this year. Will probably be later in the fall before I have time to do any more filming.
If those leaf where $100 bill you would be a millionaire . My channel upload does not come out as sharp. what format do you upload to UA-cam (mpeg3 or wmv or av) and what do you use to edit your video.
Thanks Mike , would love to come south and get some of those larger crappies. Keep them videos coming. Also could not believe the great fall fishing.Have to try it, to much hunting.
Mike I have a question, I noticed when you came up on the first dock that you had to reverse with the trolling motor, do you think the current it puts off bothers the fish, thanks
Round head jigs I pour myself with #1 red sickle hooks. Paint them orange. Usually use a 1/16 oz. but will go to 1/32 if slower fall is needed or 3/32 if faster fall is needed. Thanks for watching.
Thanks Mike , ive got 2 of them but I sound like a hick when I talk on it, I have a channel but just haven't put but a few videos on it. Thanks , keep posting ive learned a lot. Do black Crappie hit the plugs when your trolling
Hello ! Mr. Mike Baker. I am a big fan of your UA-cam video’s. I’m a 58 year old man and I lost all my crappie fishing equipment due to a storage house fire and I lost my job that I had for 25 years due to someone had the virus on the job and it shut down for good and I have no money to purchase anymore fishing equipment. Mr. Baker. Will you please help me out with a crappie spinning rod. My church pastor gave me one of his crappie spinning reel ? I am praying that god touch your heart to help me please. God bless us for we can help others who are in needed. Thank you so much and may god be in your heart to help me Mr. mike baker please 🙏🙏
I went out to local lake today to try to use side imaging to look under docks just as you did on this video. I actually have the same unit you used. I cannot figure why I can't see under docks as you do. I had it set for 50' on right only. Only difference was the docks I went by were in only 7 to 14 feet of water - more shallow than docks you were examining. When I go by bridge pilings, I see the pilings and whatever is around them, but nothing under the docks. I know some of the docks that I was looking at has wood connected to the dock underneath - in water, but I don't see anything, but as already stated, I can see the bridge pilings very clearly. Could it be the type of dock? Does this make sense - any suggestion(s)?. I went back and looked at the side imaging pictures from your video again before sending this long comment/question Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Wish I could help but I am certainly no expert on setting up the side imaging. Search for this topic on UA-cam as there are a lot of videos out there that should help. Good luck and thanks for watching.
Great video Mike. I’ve been wanting to try this since I watched your first dock shooting video. My wife and I finally got out and tried this wkend. It’s much harder than you make it look. We ended up with twelve keepers and had a blast doing it. One question, how long does this pattern usually last? Thanks for the info.
Keep practicing, it gets easier. Pattern should last all winter into late spring. During the spawn the fish will move up behind the docks. Shoot under the dock cables, reel in and hold on.
Showing 4 docks all with fish in side imaging doesn’t show much about side imaging. Show what it looks like with empty docks in imaging etc. I love dock shooting and use these techniques. Video should have been called watch me fish though, not a lot of hummingbird content
Sorry you didn’t enjoy it. A dock with no fish looks like these docks without the fish. I have filmed many docks without fish and have more Humminbird content in some of my other videos.
Mike Baker Videos I enjoyed it. I love dock shooting the Ozarks. I was just looking for hummingbird tutorials for the new T3 series I put on my Lund. Have a good season
You are a professional crappie fisher. God bless you and your family. I enjoyed it.
The best dock shooting videos I have seen. The great instruction is what sets them apart. Keep up the great work.
Thank you!

Great videos as always. Keep up the "how to find fish" videos. That seems to be the hardest part for me.
Retiring in 2 months to where you are, but not sure what I'm going to do... except fish. Cannot wait. Nice vids and nice boat.

I use that technique as well. Great way to get into some tight spots you can’t shoot to.
The stringer idea is genius! Not having to fish them out of the well in cold temps and knowing your limit! Genius!!!
I’ve loved watching you catch crappie. Thank you for sharing.
Celeste Hall you are welcome. Thanks for watching.
Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge and wisdom!
Great video Mike! Thanks for sharing your tips and tricks.
Love it. Great lessons. Thank you
I'm going to be shooting several segments right there in your neck of the woods in the next couple weeks. I'll have to try this with my side view.
Good luck.
Another hit Mike!!! Great job!!!
Enjoyed the video particularly the info on side imaging, a technique I am just learning. I subscribed and look forward to more. Dennis
Great video - glad to hear there are more to come.
Thanks mate great technique!! From Australia ill try that bait flicking/slipping 👍👍😁😁
Enjoying the videos. I live on Keystone lake Oklahoma.
Been wanting to try this. Thanks for the info.

I have videos on it. Watch my “Baker Bits”.
Hope to see more videos from you and all is well
Mike great video, looking for recommendations, on the best set up for shooting docks. Rod and reel, line, and jig weight. Thanks
A great setup without breaking the bank would be a B & M Sharpshooter rod, Pflueger reel and 6 lb. high vis yellow line. I use a 1/16 or 1/32 oz. jig.
Mike Baker Videos thanks for the info definitely going to get the gear and give it a go. 👍
Great Video. I'd like to see a video about how to clean and prepare crappie for eating.

No! However, work, life and tournament fishing got in the way this past year. Hope to do more soon. Thanks for watching.
Hope to do more soon.
Can you do a video on how you set up your Bass Cat for trolling cranks?
Yes, the next time I shoot a trolling video.
Great video. But I think you oughta invest in a good pair of shades ;)
Great videos Mike. Going to try shooting the dock. what lb line do yo use for shooting
6 lb.
Thanks Mike , would love to come south and get some of those larger crappies. Keep them videos coming. Also could not believe the great fall fishing.Have to try it, to much hunting.
Great video like always. Do you ever troll for crappie in the winter time like you do in the hot summer months?
Rarely on Lake of the Ozarks. Can't seem to stay away from the dock shooting that time of year.
Mike I have a question, I noticed when you came up on the first dock that you had to reverse with the trolling motor, do you think the current it puts off bothers the fish, thanks
Some say yes, some say no. I think it is best if you don’t blast right into them.
Very nice video, thanks
Nice video, can I ask what type of rod you are using, and there lenght. Also what pound test are you using. Thanks
Either a 6 ft. B & M or a 5 1/2 ft. Allstar .6 lb. line.
Good job, video and catching. In joyed the side imaging. What kind of Jig and weight were you using ? Thanks Mark at 12MM Osage.

A Go Pro for the most part.

Awesome video man
Mike what rod length and action do you use? Also line type and lb. test?
I use various rods in 5.5 or 6 ft in length. B&M sharp shooter rods are good dock shooting rods. I use 6lb high vis line.
Are you still doing the youTube thing?
Yes. When I have time. I have been busy this year with tournaments but hope to shoot some more videos in the next few months.
Mike Baker Videos I enjoy these crappie videos! Where you at on lake of the Ozarks? I’ve only been to that lake once and it wasn’t to fish. Lol

Do you ever fish Stockton lake if so what part and do you have a lure color you prefer that lake and pomme I fish
I haven't been on Stockton in a few years and when I was there last it was to fish for Walleye. Never fished it for crappie.
