Moving brushes like doors or elevators have the lighting baked in just like the static parts of the map (and unlike entities like enemies or pickups, which just take the lighting level of the surface directly below them), and it's based on its position as the map starts. If you have a brush starting inside a wall or something, it'll be completely unlit because no light source will reach it.

The pink-black lambda texture, as well as Gabe's face, is a special texture called "aaa_trigger" and is very important in map making (its appearance can be either of those two). It should normally be invisible, as it represents an area in which when touched by player, triggers something. Same texture/s can be seen in some counter-strike 1.6 maps, such as de_rats. The "aaa_" part in its name is, I assume, to find the texture easier in map editor's texture browser window. This one is truely the icing on the cake though, especially given you guys went the extra mile to have Mike Shapiro actually do some voice acting/dialogue in character after all those years! 😮👍👏
3:57 That's not Barney, he is seen at the beggining of the train cutscene banging a door that won't open
3:26 looks way better than what they used in the final version. looks way more secret underground research facility like.
gman saying "TIMES" at the end quadrupled my heart rate
imagine that houndog in that room with gabe watching, from all directions, and suddenly, puf, teleported to gordon who then proceeds to kill it...
Oh my god! Barney's voice actor! Did he get you that beer?
honestly this is the kind if video that every aspiiring level designer need to watch. the tradeoffs that are made to get the look and feel needed despite an engines short comings. i dont know, this seems really relevant due to the level of detail you go into without wasting any time! excellent
What was the other big surprise later in 2020?? WHAT WAS IT MIKE?? WHAT AREN'T YOU TELLING US?
I was playing Sven Co-op last week, and I got to this part 14:25, but I missed the jump to go inside the pipe. So I swam up that entire loop thinking it was either a place the player wasn’t exactly supposed to be at, or I was going the right way lol. Also, I did survive the acid for that long, thanks to the H.E.V Suit’s Armor.
I love how the generic Barney has his own, slightly different voice compared to "the" Barney
3:50 woah! That looks much better than the hallway we have now, wonder why they changed it.
"Hmm, that guy sounds a lot like Gman" "OMG IT IS HIM!"
I'll have you know that the Bradley, despite its tank-y looks, isn't actually a tank. It's more of a tracked armored personnel carrier.
I was so excited to watch this Half-Life video that I almost blinked!
5:03 in PS2 version, there is no scientist model. There are only their legs.
The sound is not in sync. You're already talking about one thing but it's still showing the previous things that were mentioned.
Look Gordon! Ropes! We can use these to cross big pits!
time mister Shesez is it really that time again? Wow im so happy you've finally done a video on Half life, love the vids keep at it
I love this because we've all noclipped and saw all these mysterious planes, rooms, cubes, and more. But didn't know what they were for and this helped a ton.
Shesez, Marphy Black and Mike Shapiro. Truly the most ambitious crossover of all time
Man it’s so cool you got Mike Shapiro to voice Barney in this. It’s so nice to see this show evolve.
0:09 sound out of sync? 2:54 yep, sound is out of sync, the sound is few seconds ahead of the video itself
15:00 both tanks or ifvs are bradleys, but one is designed for combat while the other is for a scripted seqeunce that looks really cool
