When they said natural droidekas, I was already thinking about the insectoid species - the colicoid - that heavily resembles them. I mean, they look like Doridekas when they're not transformed into a ball. I got confused for a moment. And if this species forced the Empire to make peace with them, then they are force to be reckoned with.
The Amanin had to be truly be badass to force the Galactic Empire to make peace with them and force concessions out of them. The Kaleesh are the only other species I can think of that made that happen.
8:39 The Imperial conflict with these Zulu Armadillos was the "textbook good guy Imperial" Janek Sunber's first if not ever crowning achievement. Bonus points for being Luke's childhood buddy. P.S. His first mention was in the A New Hope novelization.
So the Neimoidians were mammals with invertebrate traits like larval young and the Amanin were invertebrates with mammalian traits like arms and legs. Stuff like this is why Star Wars is so cool.
They're the creators of the droideka and patterned it off themselves yeah, but the Colicoids while being apex on their world aren't the toughest sentient out there.
A world filled with dangerous meat eating monster who are very intelligent creatures who created some of the most destructive battle droids in the Confederacy Droid Army, and quite frankly they some of the “Alien” culture that one would expect from a large Galaxy in Star Wars, but perhaps the Anamin are perhaps more biologically related to the Hutts considering how they biology allowed them to shrug off major wounds.
I think it is the best interests for the Amanin and the Lurmen colonists to band together to defend their home. Tee Watt Kaa isn't going to live forever. So when his son or someone else who disgreed with his ideology steps in as the new leader of the colony, they might be able to find the common ground with the Amanin and defend themselves from the other invaders.

How decent of the worm-folk to respectfully keep their gross yet natural dietary tendencies to themselves. No like seriously, that's a very respectful thing to do for a race of literal worm people. Also: I have a list of reasons not to visit any of the ancient mesoamerican civilizations (particularly the Mayans because of the fear of being sacrificed to Quetzalcoatl and a Sam O'Nella gag.) The idea of two groups of people literally about to start slaughtering each other, instead of ambush each other, choose to coordinate the fight like it's a high school fight is both hilarious and really cool
They have such a high speed rolling that I believe a force sensitive Amani would be quite dangerous with force speed. Imagine rolling at such a high speed that you effortlessly flatten storm troopers moving like a blur 😂
I read the comic. And MAN was it good to see the Imps get torn apart like that. Hardly as embarrassing as being defeated by little space bears, seeing as the spears the Anami used weren't dinky arrows that needed to hit weak spots, and were significantly stronger. Allowing the spears to just punch through Stormtrooper armor.
I remember this comic, was so cool seeing the empire in this situation. Never got around to reading the rest of it. Would love to have finished it though
If only the mucus on their skins is toxic, would skinning them carefully mean you could eat them? Because I bet some Hutt would have tried just for the novelty of it.
They don't actually have skin, most likely, Earth planarians don't, they're just flesh, no skin, no body cavities, no digestive tract, only ganglia instead of brains. These are aliens though, not true planarians, but ultimately it's probable that the whole body is poisonous.
A rather great specimen but seems to lack that something to make it an actual threat. They seemed too busy with their little wars to gather information on the other planets
Well they're a peaceful race who minds their own business, their warfare is only a way of maintaining peace, it just so happens that they're hyperviolent due to their incredibly robust bodies, and thus they have no understanding of the much more frail alien races of the galaxy, so they don't seem to have any desire at all to go conquer, simply a desire to not be conquered.
That comic was brutal. A great introduction to a well written Imperial Officer, Janek Sunber, one of Luke's childhood friends. Wish they'd have put this on screen.
I really liked this story when I first read it. First off. its from the imperial perspective and they aren;t moustache twirling villians which is always fun, Second its a clash of civilizations of very different tech levels and the result of a cultural misunderstanding and third the way it ends. I mean after a two day battle where both sides suffer heavy casualties the imperials are getting ready to die fighting when the enemy not only praises them but pretty much says they are willing to pay for peace. Plus the real ending were Sunber shows that battlefield success is no substitute for weasly politics if you want to advance your career...
If I'm remembering my Behind-The-Scenes Lore correctly, the Amanin were originally going to be native to Yavin 4. A concept modle exists, but Henson's creature shop didn't exist yet, and no one who could have made a practical puppet that would've pleased George was within their budget.
So the WHOLE imperial incident thing...was a LITERAL total misunderstanding... An yet... The "Empire" here accidentally proved worthy anyways... THIS actually sounds like it'd be a pretty cool and good movie shot in the WW2 style in similar fashion as some of the classics we got in the real world today... What'd be ironic, an a bit funny, is if in their galaxy someone made some Holonet movie about these said events.. thinking similar thoughts related to "X" event in their verse.
The Colicoids, the Amani, the lemurs from the episode in Clone Wars that debuted the Defoliator shells. How many species can roll into wheel shapes for speed?
It seems to be a common evolutionary thing Among a few species doesn't it. Which I guess does make sense. If you can't kill what's trying to eat you Though next best thing is to try and out run it.
great vid, one of my fav species, although gotta disagree with your thought that most people know them from the unfinished cw arc, the ROTJ character has been around for 40 years
Can a species like this still be called "flatworms" when they evolved so far away from any worm? I feel like calling these flatworms is like calling humans fish Then again, it's hard to come up with completely new animal classes
This species just make weapons and the planet isn't resource rich. Not worth attacking if they pay imperial tax. The empire would have destroyed the Hutts if it was worth it.

In the EU, the colicoid’s designed the droideka’s after themselves
@@zanemartin6699 I just said that. But if they were a fierce as the Amanin, I'm pretty sure the Empire will be shitting their pants as well.
True, but unlike their Droideka creations, the Colicoid are stationary when they ball up for defense.

Lurmen: pacifists after major change in homeworld (I don't know how they fled their home)
Amani: adapted to their homeworld

If a Force-sensitive Amani were split in half, would both have access to the Force?
@kaiservon2936would they though?? If your arm gets cut off and you can regenerate I'd assume you wouldn't lose the force from medichlorian loss.
@@finlay9616agreed

Asking the Important questions
This is a good question
I love them The amani are so scary looking and cool let's hope we see more of them in star wars
That comic was so raw, both for the battle and my introduction to Janek Sunber.
Oh yeah I remember this guys from the Star Wars Empire comic. Such a cool series.
So these guys have multiple vital organs and can regenerate. Man, and here I thought Sith, other Dark Siders, and Gen'Dai were tough to kill. lol.
So the Neimoidians were mammals with invertebrate traits like larval young and the Amanin were invertebrates with mammalian traits like arms and legs.
Stuff like this is why Star Wars is so cool.
When the universe is big enough, you get to have some pretty cool stuff. I'm with ya mate, love this aspect of Star Wars.
Given the Neimoidians evolved from Duros, I’m pretty sure they are more reptile than mammal, but otherwise you make a very good point.
I always thought of the colicoids where the "natural" version of droidrekas
They're the creators of the droideka and patterned it off themselves yeah, but the Colicoids while being apex on their world aren't the toughest sentient out there.

Crystal Crisis definitely deserved to be in Season 7
I actually remember Kenner making a figure for one of these guys.
That would be Amanaman, an Amani who was seen in Jabba's retinue in RotJ
One of the Power of the Force line, iirc.
Yeah the original figure was one of the rarest and therefore most expensive collectable figures.
Regrowing after being cut in half would be really useful with all the arm-cutting that happens in SW

They're a threat only if you attack then, they probably aren't interested in taking over other planets
Anyone wanna bet a few separatists travelers encountered the aminin and took inspiration for the droidika’s rolling ability?
I first heard of the Amanin in ‘Crystal Crisis on Utapau’, and then read up a bit on them later.

More close to flatworms, like the Hammerhead worm.
