I wonder why Colicoids hated the Jedi. The only thing I have to go by is the fact that Jedi didn’t recruit hive mind species. I also wonder what their relationship with the Republic was after they saved them from Imperial occupation.
My guess would be that the Thousand Years of Peace meant that the Colicoids lost a considerable chunk of their trade from the decreased need and/or outlawing of combat-oriented droid production. In the real world, military production and R&D contracts are lucrative business, so I suspect that also holds true in Star Wars; even as early as the Old Republic era.
A Neimoidian seems like a much safer option. You could always trust their greed and generally get an idea as to how to work with one effectively. Working with a hivemind species in any kind of business just seems very risky unless it's limited to very simple terms, like the trading of meat for droidekas.
It would have been interesting to see Rebel Alliance have some CIS Remnants on their side and make good use of their technology and stuff they can salvage in their fight against the Galactic Empire. They're not picky from what they can get after all.
From what I could see the AT-AT walker of the Empire was a successor of the AT-TE that the CIS had. The Empire pretty much took the best stuff from both armies of the clone wars (like the Venator-class destroyer from the Republic) and developed it further. The Death Star itself was a CIS idea. The rebels were left pretty much with scrap (and ships from Mon Calamari).

I remember hating the Colicoids, on Balmorra, back when I was playing SWTOR; they could be such a pain in the ass. Some of their later droid creations, however, are very neat.
I had no idea they were sentient in SWTOR, just thought they were mindless insects. The more ya know. I only remember going down a giant hole or something and slaughtering them on the way down.
I would like to remind all of you the people who made the vulture droids had a religion that pushed them towards creating a perfect droid. Yet the culicoid surpassed them them for a box of meat.
What is it with hive-minded insect species that they have a tendency to create killer battle droids? First, it’s the Geonosians with their B1 Battle Droids, now it’s the Collocoids with their Destroyer Droids and Scorpenek Annihilator Droids.
If you have to make a deal with one, go with the Nemodians. Sure, both will probably try to double-cross you but at least you have a better chance of surviving a double-cross from the Nemodians than you do the Colicoids. Also, I didn't know these bugs made the Scorpion Droid shown in the Book of Boba Fett finale. Even after the end of the Galactic Civil War there still in business, good for them, but bad for a lot of other people.
First the B1s were Terminator versions of Nemoidian husks. Now the Droidekas are Terminator versions of equally deadly Colocoids. Later on, the New Republic would make Vong-Hunter Terminators based on humanoid skeletons. What is it with Star Wars species constantly making Terminators of themselves?!??
After what happened to the Geonosians in canon, do you think the Colicoids are willing to help or form relations with the Geonosian refugees who came to their world? If there are some who came with the belief of "fellow bugs should stick together", of course.
I find it cool that the Collicoids are just beasts in Starwars the old Republic that are just eating toxic waste on Balmorra and 3600 years later they design Droidekas.
I managed to employ a colicoid for my trade firm. I managed to rope him into handling negotiations on the terms that he could eat anyone who turned out to be a corporate spy or liability to a major project. He and I get into a lot of philosophical arguments that, believe it or not, he starts. With some compromise, I was able to garner enough trust to be able to have him attend board meetings, although most other members are understandably hesitant to show up.
Because they were. Droidekas debuted in 1999 in Episode 1, The Phantom Menace, and I remember reading about colicoids in the associated visual dictionary that I had. On the droideka page they mentioned they were created by an insectoid race called colicoids and that they were relatively unknown to most of the galaxy, but those that did know of them absolutely loathed them. There were no pictures of colicoids to be found of course, so it was pretty apparent that the droidekas were created first for the movie, and the colicoids were just a cool-sounding name given to a species that designed them as background lore.
Say what you will about the colicoids, but you got to respect their surprisingly good business integrity. Despite being ravenous carnivores, they were willing to negotiate with customers and only ate their customers when negotiations failed.
Truly they are paragons of self-restraint. I still eat my business partners at the earliest hints of souring. (for legal reasons, this is a joke. If I had business partners to eat I would be much richer).

Do you think that George Lucas already raised this question, but didn't develop it in the story of the Prequels because that wasn't the focus of the plot?
I don't think it's a subversion, more a closer look at what contributed to their fall. They were still a noble order in their last days, but they made the mistake of believing that they served the people of the Republic by serving its government.
