Trying to master it. Managing to get in the top 3 or so on 64p servers, so I don't think it's underpowered, it's just heavily geared towards ambushing and fighting dirty. Things might change but it currently has that "archer affect" where players will blindly swing at you thinking you will die easy, probably because they know it can't interrupt. This nets you a lot of free hits as you exploit the mindless attacks. I think it's absolutely fine that it's kinda bad at 'fair' duels since the ambusher has access to the shortsword and throwing daggers as a secondary which he can always swap to when needed.
In it's current state, I think the Katar is underpowered. So I still prefer the dagger for backstabs because it's special does 150 damage (rather than 45x2) and the short sword + throwing knife combo for regular fighting as it's just far more versatile. I wish they'd also give the ambusher the option to have the one handed axe, morning star & one handed sword. it would make them a more well rounded useful class.
One tip Id include as well is the counter combo repeat rhythm lets you work 2 hits in between each enemy swing, its just very important that you connect in some capacity with the combo to reset your defense option. Misses are easy due do the lack of horizontal option, and deadly due to the lack of range. Countering is especially important by default with this weapon due to the high stam loss on block, the timing advantage is just an added perk of using it correctly. Hope that sprint attack gets a damage buff soon
I have to admit that I didn´t give it another chance. But I don´t play in general as an ambusher, so my game with it is in general weak. Good vídeo in any case, your advice is very on point. I am enjoying again the spear and glaive a lot thanks in big part to your tips and tricks. Keep it going!
Lovely guide. I find myself using katars as a secondary weapon, and using a sword + knives as primary while moving around the battlefield waiting for the perfect chance to enter "Katar Rage Mode" It allows me to be flexible with my throwing daggers and in case I bump into a wave of enemies while giving me the option to go ham with katars. I was a Katar hater until I started playing this way and it's been some of the most fun I've had in my 104 levels racking up murder streaks.
Thanks a lot! Using the katars as secondary weapon while having the sword and throwing knives as primary sounds like a great idea! It makes the ambusher much more versatile! Good point, I will definitely try that aswell!
Good stuff! Other fluff: you can still throw the Katar even though it's in two pieces, kinda weird as it throws one projectile but you will pick both up after. Since the ambusher can have a good nimble weapon as his sidearm it can be worth it to throw the Katar when forced into 1vX and try to clutch out with a shortsword&knife. Due to the block-pierce affect of the Special, it can be worth bringing the Katar as your backup weapon even when you intend to use the shortsword or dagger as your primary. The Katar is such a great finisher tool since you can almost always hit first and can punish turtling. In more drawn out fights Stamina will decide the fight, so you need to really focus on footwork to force misses and regain stamina. If you stay in range too long you are forced to counter to maintain stamina and the enemy just needs to throw a feint in to end you. So get good at disengaging from fights! Running away and doubling-back with a Special will win a lot of encounters
Holy shit! By the looks of it, you already mastered them quite well! I have not even had the chance to play with them, because im on vacation. But i am going to implement all these tips of yours, and i think its going to be just fine. I like how you also make vids about the lesser strong but much cooler weapons of Chiv. Keep em going!
I'm happy to read that you will try out my tips! :) It should make it much easier to perfrom well with the katars even though they are definitely underpowered at the moment. I hope you're enjoying your vacation! Thanks a lot for watching and commenting again!
Thanks a lot! Yeah looking at the dmg values can really help! As soon as they buff the weapon (probably next bigger update) I will post a link to the updated table with the damage values in the description :)
I love the ambusher class. I also love it when enemy calls me a "back stabbing cherry picker". They are just letting me know I'm playing my class correctly.
It's a nice weapon, but the game is very stressful with the many bugs present, especially with very important things that were not implemented for consoles
I agree! A lot of things need to be fixed and especially console players need way more attention from developers finally! But overall I'm personally still enjoying the game.
Very Helpful and explains the inconsistencies in performance I was seeing. I guess I hadn't actually realized the sprint attack was different than the special and it explains the difference in damage. I have also notice the difference in using the stab vs. the "horizontal" stab. Thanks for this! Subbed. Do you have a dagger guide? I'll check the channel but if you don't that might be an interesting one. The backstab it great it's just so damn slow!
Thanks a lot! I'm happy to read that the guide was helpful for you! I currently don't have a dagger guide BUT i have an ambusher guide and also a highlight video of me using the dagger (ambusher highlights). If you watch both you should get a good idea of how to use the dagger!
Big reason why I dont like them because the animation looks boring. It's literally just *stab stab* over and over. I imagined some kind of slash or other arm movements that look a bit fancier. Guess I wanted it to be some kind of assassins creed hidden blades style fighting. Just looks awkward to me the way it is but also the way it feels to fight constantly on super close range. Edit: Very good guide I didnt know about the spcial attack interrupting :)
Yeah you're totally right about the animations! I was really surprised by the weapon lacking a horizontal slash. Thanks a lot for the positive feedback! :)
I rebound the sprint attack to ^ (qwertz-keyboard). For a qwerty-keyboard ` would be the equivalent i think. Also i rebound throwing to a thumb-button on my mouse, since it is way faster and easier to press than the default input. Thanks a lot for watching, many more guides coming soon! :)
For sure a beast player like you can make this work, but the average player will just be frustrated. Imagine doing mix ups, outplaying your oponent and he just gambles you and smacks you because you cant interupt him. I really dont understand why they waste time with gimmick weapons. I never encountered one of these in more then 10 matches. Just make viable weapons, not memes. Why not a flail instead ? Some kind of curved greatsword ?
A no flinch hit against the enemy instantly resets your defense options including counters. This allows for a unique read, hit, counter scenario that opens a combo loop where you alternate counters and combos to hit the enemy twice between every swing
@@yllekfrizco4557 True, but why use an underpowered weapon and have to play it so well and work so hard when you can use stuff like an axe ? Or any other more META weapon ? This weapon is a meme, nothing else, the fact that you allmost never see it is all you need to know about it.
I was also frustrated at first when using the katars 😁 But i think that even average players can do quite well with them if they focus on using the special attack (good and fast dmg + interrupt) and if they look for distracted enemies to quickly finish them. However it is definitely MUCH harder to perform well with the katars than with most other weapons and you have to adopt a very different playstyle. But I guess some players like the challenge 😁
If you're super skilled the katars special attacks fuck you up so badly. I dueled some guy and he just perfect countered all my attacks and special attacked me the whole time. Even heavy attacks with my greatsword he'd just deflect that shit
katars pretty much sucks, that's all, you shouldn't be able to miss with them that easily when you're glued to someone, they should also have a chance to stagger and they definitely should at least remove the chase mechanic for anyone following you if you have the Katar and give you a chase mechanic instantly if you want to chase someone, this is an unacceptable state for a weapon like that
What are your thoughts on the katars so far? Did you drop the weapon already because of its weaknesses or are you still trying to master it?

Like it, trying to master it but would like a change in stats or a small bonus in damage like 10 or 15 percent for footman and knight.

Thank you so much! Many more videos coming soon :)
Wow, with ur skills you made it look like its a good weapon, superb guide! :D
Haha, thanks a lot! Yeah the clips definitely make it look easier than it is :D The weapon is still massively underpowered unfortunately

u cant have katar on your left.. how did u manage it? i unlocked katar but gives u only main wep and on side u cant choose katar..
You dont have to choose katars on side. Main weapon is enough and you will have a Katar in both of your hands in game 😉

good guide, gj!
When you say stab do you mean normal attacks or the "up scroll" type of stab?
good video. i'm always 1 shotting archers from behind with the sprint attack, did they buff it since you made this?

There's so many great Indian weapons that would be great in these type of games. Wonder if they'll ever add the flexible Urumi?
I just looked up what the urumi looks like and I would looove to have this in the game 😁
