With todays patch the ambusher receveived a new weapon (katars), a new perk which enables you to ALWAYS kill enemies in meele instead of knocking them down sometimes and a new special ability! The quiver was replaced with bandage kits, which makes you way more valuable for your team (and makes it much easier to top score now)! :)
Another tip about crouching is that it will cancel the momentum of your character allowing you to swing in place. Really useful in team fights so you don't lunge into the middle of the fight
I have a very pressing question. How do you respond after your attack has been blocked by an enemy? I always seem to die when that happens. Can I counter their next strike? Because mine always fails, or only reposts. Should I have, kick, what?

I've always found the dueling community in these types of games (chiv 1, Mordhau etc) to be very helpful people. I think it's because if you're a toxic a-hole people just don't want to duel you any more.
To anyone watching this in september 2024, don't even bother playing it on playstation. You not only are at a huge disadvantage playing with a controller you also have massive delay compared to pc. I keep clipping to enemies that I should be hitting and keep getting hit by attacks that I am actually blocking. Tried the game on PC and all of this doesn't happen.

I’m more of a first person guy because when I use the third person view I can’t see where I’m going to hit so I kind of just guess and hope I land a fatal blow in the chaos
There are multiple things that can help you fight better really fast. The first thing is to focus on successful counter attacks. Try counter-attacking everytime somebody attacks you. Although this will be very hard at the beginning, at some point it will massively increase your perfromance! The next thing is to head to the duel servers every now and then. Just head to the play tab in main menu -> standalone servers and find a duel server in your region for example a server with the name "EU - Duels ...." There you will find top duellists (remember to flourish your weapon pressing the middle mouse button before duels and don't randomly attack anyone who hasn't flourished aswell!). Fighting the best of the best will teach you really fast or at least highlight your mistakes so you know what you have to work on. Also feel free to ask these players for tips! People on duel-servers are generally always ready to help and give you a couple hints/tips. But the best advice is to just play a lot and always try to identify your mistakes after you have died. For example if you died because you dropped your main weapon then your mistake was bad stamina management and the fix would be to successfully counter attacks so you don't lose stamina and will keep your main weapon.
My favorite thing about playing as a javeliner is when a dude with a big ax comes running at me with a javelin sticking out of his eyeball clearly straight through his skull and he's like nah that 12 lb piece of wood sticking out of my eyeball just ignore it
My problem is I can't aim. Everyone else seems to be able to throw their weapons for damage and hit these crazy long distance shots as archers but I'm just bad no matter how much I try to practice as an archer. If I try too hard to line up the shots I'll never end up getting the shot off, and if I just ballpark it I'll just miss everything or hit my teammates.
Dont line up it's a projectile so if you aim right on them like a gun you will miss, I usually watch the enemies path and try to lead my shot where I think theyll be. Try to look for enemies walking in a straight path and fire slightly ahead of them.

A couple of questions about the controls . Im on Xbox here, kinda new. How to you throw the thing in your left hand? Also, As Knight I picked up a shield, my guy puts it on his back and wont actually hold it, how do I equip?
I'm on PC so I'm not quite sure how it works on Xbox but for throwing there must be a certain button and to equip a shield which is on your back you have to "equip" the weapon you have in your hand already. So for example if my sword is on button 2 and I want to equip the shield which I have on my back I have to press the button 2 again. On Xbox you'd have to select the weapon which you have in your hand already on your weaponwheel.
Is there any way to say no to auto balance? Three times now I've been doing good and having fun, just for the game to flip me off and forcefully put me on the other team. It's really fucking annoying.
Does increasing your level with a certain weapon have any effect on how you wield that weapon? Does someone with a level 20 Messer skill swing any faster than one with a level 1 Messer skill?

Try practicing a single weapon. I've just been maining war club and it's improved my gameplay by a mile.
