"Charles Xavier did more for mutants than you'll ever know. My single greatest regret is that he had to die for our dream to live." - Erik Lensherr/ Magneto
I don't like this movie at all, but I absolutely love that line. Great encapsulation of their friendship and how despite their key differences in approaching mutant/human relations, they had the utmost respect for each other.
His immediate reaction and his defense of Charles later in the film are solid, but it never rubs me the right way that he would continue to use Jean Grey (as desperate as he is) after that happened. The Erik of the other films in the series would likely go so far as to eliminate Jean himself immediately after she kills Charles. It's actually one of the larger issues I have with the plot of the film. Erik can be impulsive, but it's all about the survival of mutant kind and Charles Xavier was a more important person to keep alive for mutant kind than Jean Grey. He (spoilers) tries to kill Mystique in DoFP to keep all mutants safe, which is *entirely* in character, so I don't see him risking Jean Grey doing more damage to other mutants after she eliminates one of the most important and helpful mutants of the entire population.
@@HQBaconhonestly I think it’s only because of Charles himself that Erik didn’t try to destroy Jean. He know that Charles loved Jean and “died” trying to help her, so he wanted to try to finish what Charles started. This movie definitely got bad reputation mainly because of the poorly handled Phoenix Saga and the director’s choices for scenes. At least it has the one line I still love quoting. “I’m the Juggernaut, b-!”
I think the main issue is that it tries to bring in the Phoenix saga, the Cure saga, AND a final confrontation with Magneto in one film. It also gets rid of both Cyclops, Mystique, Jean, and (sorta) Rogue. It tries to do too many things at once so it's all a bit shallow. But it has some really good scenes in it so it's not a bad movie. But it's overstuffed to the brink. You also have to mentally separate the comics from the movies because some of the changes can be pretty distracting otherwise.

There were so many character deaths because this was intended to be the last movie with the full X-Men team. Many of the original cast's contracts were expiring after this movie, and they only planned to do standalone spinoff movies featuring the characters who were the most popular or had the most story to explore. That's why there's no X-Men 4, and the next film in the franchise is instead X-Men Origins: Wolverine, which of course is centered on Wolverine and his past as the title implies. They were also planning a solo film about Magneto when he was a young man, but that would eventually evolve (hehe) into X-Men: First Class.
Apparently it was said in the movie commentary that it was her failed usage of cerebro in the last film that broke down Charles’ psychic barriers in Jean

49:17 - MIRRORING THE 'VAN HELSING' ENDING - The demise of the main bad guy, a cure, and the leading lady dying in the arms of the wolf-like lead, Hugh Jackman.
What’s crazy is I think only beast sees things from rogues perspective. And it’s only a little bit. Storm just refuses and is like there’s nothing wrong with you. But I’m like how can she ever have a child? Have a real relationship? Is no one noticing that some powers not only suck but hinder real life.
They both understood her situation but they were also both heavily against the cure. They believed that she would eventually be able to control her powers(which she does in the comics) and that she should learn to accept herself.
Exactly! Imagine not even being able to hug your parents, let alone have a fulfilling romantic relationship, or kids. Such a depressing way to live, especially for a teenager who’s eager to grow and experience new things in life.
Storm's powers are tied to her emotions. When she is sad, if she doesn't control her feelings, the sky become cloudy. If Storm becomes angry, she could manifest a hurricane . -- Shout out to Kelsey Grammer (Beast), I loved his acting.
Rogue's choice to take the cure is absolutely understandable. A huge part of human condition is physical contact. No intimate contact, not being able to have kids of your own, would be a very depressing. They were good at first making it a choice to take the cure, but then they pushed it over the line when they decided to weaponize it. Sometimes, you gotta draw hard lines in the sand. And Tara kept saying "Take the cure and go to prison", they don't go to prison if they take the cure. The guy was saying that they turned Alcatraz, which WAS a prison, is now the place where they created the cure.
The acting in this film is next level. Despite some of the story choices in this film I’ve really appreciate the acting so much more now thanI ever have.
I love you two doing commentary together, such great chemistry, it makes watching these even better! Also, thank you, Tara, for fixing my brain so that I will always call him Mag-net-o after 40 years of calling him Mag-neet-O. 🤣😂
this along with the 2005 Fantastic Four have been unjustly vilified. I think they're pretty good early Marvel movies. light, well made and just all around FUN.
FF is worse than any of the X-Men movies imho. Bad humor, and Reed is down-right unlikable. The sequel is slightly better. Slightly. Storm and Ben are OK, the highlights of the movie. Sue is done extremely dirty, as is Dr. Doom.
It had potential but a few too many ideas stuffed in the movie messed it up. I liked it but it should of been a 2 parter since the Phoenix saga is a BIG STORY. Above average for me 6/10.
Frustrating fact: they took the relationship that Logan had with Jubilee (in the cartoon and comics) and gave it to Rogue. I’ve always loved Jubilee’s character and her relationship with Logan. Hoping the next time around she gets an actual role and that is done right.
I forgot about that, but I was disappointed that she only popped up in a scene or two and was usually in the background except for the mall scene in X2.
@JohnSmith-rm1po they could still do that story arc without having to vilify the characters. Because I feel like this unnecessarily makes people dislike Bobby and Kitty a little bit. Rogue is clearly his girlfriend, like they call each other so, but dude goes on an ice skating date with someone who clearly has a crush on him. We already know Rogue struggles with touching people, it’s a well laid plot point of the first two X-Men movies, that can be enough to motivate her to want the cure we don’t need a third-party.
This iteration of Professor X is so powerful that, like Superman, he would tend to prevent stories from happening which means the first job in all three scripts is figuring out how to sideline him. Poisoned Cerebro in 1, captured by Stryker in 2, dead in 3.
26:15 The Professor only really has Telepathic powers, super low levels of Telekinetic. They're getting a lot stronger and usable now in the comics after Resurrection Protocols
Freezing time seems like a telekinetic power. I suppose you could argue that only happens in certain people's mind but they appear to walk normal speed during it which definitely wouldn't be possible if he was only freezing time for one person. I suppose he could be projecting everything onto everyone though. But still, that would appear to require some telekinesis as otherwise they wouldn't freeze.
@ReelRejects Tara's reactions bring you so much into the movie, and seeing Andrew get emotional during this film and the previous one helps me access my emotions 😊❤
Juggernauts powers not working makes sense for the movies but he isn’t a mutant he was charles xavier’s brother who was traveling thru a jungle wher he found a gem which possessed him with the power of cytorak making him unstoppable and durable
That fact that Cyclopses role in X3 was shortened because James Marsden was also in the Brandon Routh Superman Returns, gets me too. Such a waste of his talents.
Mystique: "If I escape, I promise to commit murder." Tara: "Get it girl!" lol Do have to give Tara credit for predicting the after credit scene. That was sharp. Yeah, this movie is still toward the bottom of the franchise for me. The returning cast is great, my problems are all story related. Yes, I knew of there was an after credit scene when released. I was on the superhero movie message boards in the early years, which is where most of us fans went to get the info. This was really at the beginnings of the after credit stinger, before the MCU had trained people.
The Phoenix is a cosmic level deity! She is second ONLY to The One Above All! She overseen Galactus’s birth, more powerful than Celestials, Living Tribunal, Eternity, etc. She is POWER 🐦🔥
1:07:51 I don't remember seeing that after credits scene till I bought this movie on DVD a few months after seeing this in theaters at a early midnight showing.
Most of it comes from those of us who watched the '90s cartoon, which did the Phoenix Saga from the comics VERY well, and X-2 lightly teased something more reminiscent of it at the end, but this is what we got instead. So definitely biased, but I felt a bit cheated, and overall I really didn't like this one as much anyway. I have tried watching it again several times, and while I can't say I HATE it, I don't ENJOY it either.
Angel was always my favorite character in both X-Men, and later X-Factor, comics. Especially when he became Archangel. I never really cared for how the films deviated so much from the comics and didn't bother to build important characters, but as far as the acting, the action, and the special effects they're great. Awesome reaction guys! ❤❤
The thing about the Phoenix that this movie got wrong is that, the Phoenix isn't some hidden power that Jean Discovered... It's actually a cosmic entity, with its own personality... And just like the FIRE 🔥 BIRD itself The Phoenixes powers all have to do with HEAT.. AND FIRE. HER POWERS OF TELEPATHY AND THE EXTREME HEAT is how she exploded Charles and Cyclops
There are a million cure darts lying all over the ground at the end, why didn't he use a couple of those instead of his blades to stop her if he loved her so much.
Its underrated and the alternate ending with this film was better and some of the extended fight scenes were an improvement but still didn't help the film. Also during the pre-production of this film Sigourney Weaver was attached to play The White Queen Emma Frost with the Hellfire Club wanting to control the power of the Dark Phoneix. I don't know if that would've helped the storyline for this third film. Also James Marsden's scenes reduced was due to him filming Superman Returns directed by Bryan Singer who left the project to film Superman in Australia.
I love the sprinkles headband! Tara, you're wearing so much color in the new videos. ❤ That's awesome. And I super understand why Rogue would want the cure.
If you think about it, Tara calling him Mag-Neto makes more sense because it’s magnet with an o added. Which is what his powers are and would sound exactly like Mag-Neto! 👏🏽
Its actually pronounced Faum-Kah Jen-sen. Famke Jensen. Shes been around since 007 Golden Eye! Shes been killing it ever since! I love her work and loved her in this franchise. The whole cast of the original X-men was just *chef's kiss*
Still not happy how they address the Phoenix saga but it has its moments I enjoyed. Hope the MCU X-Men gives Scott better treatment as a leader. Tara needs to see the animated series and 97. Also when you get Days of Future Past if be awesome if you guys watched the Rogue cut
The "cure" didn't work because you really cure genetics. It's more of a temporary suppressor. Rogue is my favorite character even though there's not much use of her powers except the second movie.
at 28:41 there's a deleted scene where Jean was able to sub atomically rearrange the plastic gun to become a small sun and it pulses scorching heat waves that made the entire group in burn and fear hahaha I hope they kept it in. Goes to show a small fraction of what the Phoenix can do. hehehe
I love hearing Tara's unbiased take on this movie. I know this one gets a lot of hate, some of it deserved but there's a lot of really good stuff in this that doesn't get a lot of credit
I remember staying in the theater until the end credits came up. There were only two times that I recall staying in the theater pre-MCU until the end of the credits, X3 and Spawn where unfortunately, there was no end credits for the latter.
I watched this movie in theaters five times. I'm not sure if it was because I had just gotten my driver's license or what. It was a fine movie, but I saw it way too many times in theaters, lol.

That's the tragedy of Wolverine in the Fox Universe. He's the only one in the all of the X-Men movies (Logan as well) that remembers absolutely everything.
The comics sometimes bring up that insurance companies have specific insurances for super/extra-terrestrial/mutant - related damages haha
I remember watching this in theaters and when Ben Foster broke out of the restraints I blurted out “impressive wingspan”. Didn’t realize I said it aloud until everyone in earshot bursted out laughing 😂
I mean, you're not wrong. That is indeed an impressive wingspan.
The de-aging of Sir Patrick and Sir Ian really holds up even after almost 2 decades 👏🏻
That is True. I would do the same thing.
@@passionsquietrage but how long will it take? And who’s to say she ever will gain control
@@Kidapollo92 She did in the comics eventually so entirely possible. And who knows how long that will take.
Storm's powers are tied to her emotions. When she is sad, if she doesn't control her feelings, the sky become cloudy. If Storm becomes angry, she could manifest a hurricane . -- Shout out to Kelsey Grammer (Beast), I loved his acting.
Isn’t there another end credit scene that shows Charles waking up in another body??
@57:15 they watch it
@@shocksix oh I must’ve missed it. I watched this at work so didn’t have my full attention the whole time
Rogue's choice to take the cure is absolutely understandable.
If inwas her in these movies i would too because she is crap
In the movies yes but then movies aren't the comics there for entertainment purposes Only
Minus the having kids thing, because no way, I agree. Not having physical contact can be depressing.
@@AlastorsShadowDemon she can touch Magento 🙄
@@Xl081x
You can only hug your grandpa’s friend so many times. No other touching is permitted between teens and old folks.
Tara CALLED IT! TWICE NOW! First with Jean and now with Charles!
this along with the 2005 Fantastic Four have been unjustly vilified.
I think they're pretty good early Marvel movies. light, well made and just all around FUN.
F4 and Rise of the Silver Surfer are GOATed
FF is worse than any of the X-Men movies imho. Bad humor, and Reed is down-right unlikable. The sequel is slightly better. Slightly. Storm and Ben are OK, the highlights of the movie. Sue is done extremely dirty, as is Dr. Doom.
@Renoistic Ben and Johnny was the best bcuz of their chemistry
It had potential but a few too many ideas stuffed in the movie messed it up. I liked it but it should of been a 2 parter since the Phoenix saga is a BIG STORY. Above average for me 6/10.
Crazy because jean plays the evil witch in the Hansel & Gretel movie amazing actress shifting emotional stages so quick x
i can’t believe it was their 18th anniversary when this film was released
Andrew not crying was the biggest sign to Tara that Professor X wasn't dead.
But he didn’t cry for Scott or Jean either
or just that he has seen it before, takes some of the shock and tears out of it
He cried for Jean!
Frustrating fact: they took the relationship that Logan had with Jubilee (in the cartoon and comics) and gave it to Rogue. I’ve always loved Jubilee’s character and her relationship with Logan. Hoping the next time around she gets an actual role and that is done right.
I forgot about that, but I was disappointed that she only popped up in a scene or two and was usually in the background except for the mall scene in X2.
now seeing it again, this movies take on Phoenix may probably different from source material, but Jean Grey being dark, villainy was spot on.
The love triangle between iceman, rogue, and kitty is one of the most unneeded plot lines in an X movie I’ve ever seen.
That true but it did lay the groundwork for Days of future past movie which would have come out of left field without this movie.
@@shootingreal5945 it wasn’t needed in days of future past either
@JohnSmith-rm1po I Last Stand-by what I said. Lmao
@JohnSmith-rm1po bro I just think the plot line sucks
18:12, Eric Dane, Grey’s Anatomy. Also, the villain in Bad Boys: Ride or Die which you’ll both reacted to, as well! Great call, Flash & Tara! 👏😁🫡
1:06:27 And Cyclops plays a HUGE integral and emotion role in 'The Dark Phoenix' storyline from the comics and animated series.
Love seeing Tera became a Xmen girl ❤😂
Edit: can't wait for First Class and DOFP.
See this is textbook Charles though. There's choices he makes with the school that border on villiany at times.
47:40 - Tara: "Aww whoa, Jean.. she is Phoenix-ing harrrd right now!"
Haha!
This iteration of Professor X is so powerful that, like Superman, he would tend to prevent stories from happening which means the first job in all three scripts is figuring out how to sideline him. Poisoned Cerebro in 1, captured by Stryker in 2, dead in 3.
I’ve come to learn that basically any reaction with Tara is going to be a banger.
Literally a banger reaction at 20:00. So much juice
I love all of the rejects. Virtual hugs to each and every one of you all.
It’s kind of cool how Shawn Ashmore played iceman in this to go on to play a Lamplighter in The Boys series and control fire 😂
@ReelRejects Tara's reactions bring you so much into the movie, and seeing Andrew get emotional during this film and the previous one helps me access my emotions 😊❤
Tara needs to watch X-Men '97.
Agreed
absolutely, i love their pairing and Tara's newly found xmen love!
PLEASE WATCH XMEN 97
It gets a lot of bad reviews but it was a decent entry into the franchise. Much better than that waste of a DARK PHOENIX movie.
Juggernauts powers not working makes sense for the movies but he isn’t a mutant he was charles xavier’s brother who was traveling thru a jungle wher he found a gem which possessed him with the power of cytorak making him unstoppable and durable
This channel is quickly becoming one of my favorites. Great reactors, great discussions, great time watching you guys. 😊
I’ll still never forgive them for how they disrespected Cyclops
That fact that Cyclopses role in X3 was shortened because James Marsden was also in the Brandon Routh Superman Returns, gets me too. Such a waste of his talents.
10:23 this movie haves its up and downs but all of Ian Mckellen delivery are freaking great
It's so cool to see Tara get excited for X-Men!!! I'd definitely love to see her reactions to the animated series
X2 is the best of the entire series.
The chess piece being the last shot probably inspired christopher Nolan in inceptions last shot
Yeah Chris was the one who brought in the newer X-Men like wolverine and banshee and a bunch of the guys.
Mystique: "If I escape, I promise to commit murder."
Tara: "Get it girl!" lol
Do have to give Tara credit for predicting the after credit scene.
Can I just say, Tara you look so freaking cute in this outfit! I love the headband!
Apparently Hugh Jackman and Famke Janssen didn’t like doing the kissing scenes because they are close friends in real life even before the movies
His now ex wife was best friends with Famke
His now ex wife was best friends with Famke Janssen
I love the headband Tara! That plus the bangs is very Blair Waldorf from Gossip Girl if she wore pink 😂 Love these reactions!!
Never understood why people hated this one tbh. I loved it as a kid who knew nothing about Xmen and still loved it as an adult
This movie was fun in a Joel Schumacher Batman films kind of way lol
The thing about the Phoenix that this movie got wrong is that, the Phoenix isn't some hidden power that Jean Discovered... It's actually a cosmic entity, with its own personality... And just like the FIRE 🔥 BIRD itself The Phoenixes powers all have to do with HEAT.. AND FIRE. HER POWERS OF TELEPATHY AND THE EXTREME HEAT is how she exploded Charles and Cyclops
Another great reaction guys!. Would totally want to see Andrew and Tara review Xmen:First Class or the new Xmen97 series!
I'm pretty sure Mystique's eyes were digital by this movie.
There are a million cure darts lying all over the ground at the end, why didn't he use a couple of those instead of his blades to stop her if he loved her so much.
Shhhh, don't point out actual solutions!
While I love the Hellfire Club and Emma Frost the last thing this movie needed was MORE plot points.
I have been waiting a long time for this reaction!!! I can't wait for X: Origins!!
I don't think i have ever seen this post credits scene. Crazy how you can still get new details outta these movies.
19:02 And at this moment Tara was surprised to see the main villian of the X-Men be a villian lol
No. It’s FUM-Kuh YEN-sen.
Still not happy how they address the Phoenix saga but it has its moments I enjoyed. Hope the MCU X-Men gives Scott better treatment as a leader. Tara needs to see the animated series and 97. Also when you get Days of Future Past if be awesome if you guys watched the Rogue cut
Magneto tells Juggernaut no one gets inside and the first thing he does is throws Wolverine through a window 😅😂
The mutant Quill (the porcupine guy) is played by Ken Leung who also plays Admiral Zhao in Netflix's Avatar: The Last Airbender series.
Happy belated birthday Andrew. I love you
X-Men the last stand has aged better over time in my opinion
The bald mutant boy they had locked up was also in a great movie called "Running Scared" - which you guys should also react to
I remember staying in the theater until the end credits came up. There were only two times that I recall staying in the theater pre-MCU until the end of the credits, X3 and Spawn where unfortunately, there was no end credits for the latter.
X2 is definitely my favorite of the OG X-Men
I watched this movie in theaters five times. I'm not sure if it was because I had just gotten my driver's license or what. It was a fine movie, but I saw it way too many times in theaters, lol.
Great reaction! This one held up better than I remembered.
Have Andrew or Tara seen James Gunn’s Super?? Would love to see a reaction to that movie 😊
Y’all should watch X-men origins Wolverine next
*_Chris Clairemont_* IS the X-Men Writer
20:00 IDK how many times I replay this because Tara's reaction and comment is so hilarious and relatable. Same girl, sameeee lmao
