Correct me if I'm wrong, but what I'm thinking is that if they lose all 3 lives, they don't actually die. Instead, the game resets them back to the start, with no memory of their first try. So Alex has been stuck in a loop for 20 years and he doesn't even feel or know it, cuz he doesn't remember. But I could be wrong, since Alex remembers those death traps when meeting the four for the first time. And the fact that Alex said "Time is kinda funny here". @@gabrielleroux2333 Take Alan for example. 20 years in the jungle equals 20 years in the outside world. Time works the same. Alex is just stuck in a reset loop with no memory. @@yudhazacharias9377 That makes so much sense! And I think Alex knowing about the death traps actually helps your theory. What if Alex died to each trap during previous playthroughs and left warning markers when he respawned? They could be subtle enough to not be obvious to others, but they would make sense to Alex because he would think in a similar way even without his memories. He might not even realize they were intentional markers left by a person, but they would still draw his attention to look more closely at the surrounding area.
I was wondering about that as well. He stated that the crocodiles was a horrible way to die, and he couldnt get past the shed. Yet, he had only lost 2 lives. Makes me wonder if it did reset in some way, or did he gain extra lives?
I would LOVE to see you guys do Zathura, I'm pretty sure it was based on a book by the same author who wrote the Jumanji book, so I don't know why it never got more popular.
It probably has to do with the fame of jumanji overshadowing it even though zathura was later and also the BIGGEST PROBLEM the implied incest joke to be fair
Alan Parrish coming back after 26 years wasn't the end of the game. He was stuck inside it until a five or an eight was rolled, and once he was released they all had to continue playing. After they completed the game in the original film, he and Sarah were immediately sent back to 1969, to exactly where and when the game began. Yet, all the participants (including the kids born later) retained knowledge of their experiences with Jumanji.
@@matthewgillies7509 That seems like pure head cannon, because there's nothing in the movie to indicate that that would be the case. What are you basing this on?
@@rbrainsop1 every time travel trope known to exist. I can also base it off the film's own canon, as in this movie our perspective is through the four high school kids. You see, the game started in the 1990s and was paused for a long time, just as it was in the original, before resuming decades later. Meaning, you have two points of entry into a parallel space/time dimension (aka: Jumanji). Those who have been a player of Jumanji remember their experiences within it, regardless of changes made once the game ends. As such, once Colin Hanks' character left the game, his life resumed where it left off and continued as normal. Had he encountered those four other kids before they entered the game they likely would not have recognized him at all, as their time had not come. However, as they clearly do know who he is at the end of this film (and since it is a sequel to the original) Jumanji rules can be deduced as hard-coding memories of alternative realities and histories of its players, which re-emerge after the game has ended. Think of it this way: Reality "A" is where the game started, and where the game returns you if you're the one who started the game. Reality "B" is the path of events while the game is in session, and whatever transpires during it is erased at the game's conclusion. However, since characters in the original Jumanji film and this one, start playing at different times, you have people from Reality A and B within the pocket dimension of the game. Once the game is over, it doesn't follow Newtonian physics and erase the high schoolers, nor their memories of the past. I suspect that they're "returned" (or their memories are) to a Reality A, which they recognize as different from their former one, Reality B. This makes the kids at the end of this film a product of both. By engaging with Colin Hanks' character at the end, he knows they have returned from the game and finally "meeting" him for first time. By this rule, the kids from the original film may not necessarily remember what happened to them---yet. But they will once they pass that point in time when they originally began the game. Another example of this in film and TV is X-Men: Days of Future Past, Back to the Future, Star Trek: TNG, Stargate SG-1, and countless others.
@@matthewgillies7509 Fair enough. But honestly, that feels more like a plot hole in this movie than cannon for the series. Every time travel story I've seen has fallen into one of a few categories- either you can change your own timeline, or you can't and everything that was going to happen does anyway, or any changes you make create a new timeline/reality. In the original movie, we see Alan and Sarah changing everything when they go back, including potentially saving the lives of the children's parents, whether this is the original timeline, or a new branch. So in this timeline, the events would never transpire to bring the kids to the game at all. So the only way your theory would work is if they simply wake up one day with a bunch of random memories from an alternate reality they never lived themselves. Those new memories would sit alongside all their own memories of their life in which their parents haven't died, and they never even encountered the game. In the new movies, imagine Alex waking up back in the 90's with the game still in his console. I can only imagine that he would do what we see the four later kids doing... he would destroy it. Which means that in his reality, they would never have the opportunity to encounter the game the way they did. In time travel stories when you meet fellow time travelers before they've met you in your own timeline, they don't recognize you. Just as we see with the kids in the first movie, and as you describe happening with Alex and the teens in this movie. But in those cases, those other people are still eventually going to go through all the events that brought you together. They simply haven't yet. But in both of these stories, the world has been changed enough that they *can't* eventually go through those events. So they will never have those experiences and come to know you. The recognition and knowledge will remain one-sided. So again, in the newer movies you would have a bunch of kids just waking up one day with memories from an alternate reality they never actually lived, alongside all their memories of the lives they have lived, including an uneventful detention in which they simply removed staples from magazines all afternoon (if they even wound up in detention together in this reality- I mean, honestly, who knows what ripples would occur. Some of them might not even live in that town in this timeline). And if that's the way the writers imagined it, I feel like there would need to be at least some recognition of that fact in the story. Instead, they act as if it all played out the way it did in the original timeline, despite the fact that it couldn't have. So again, I see your point. But that feels more like a plot hole than the actual way things work in this universe. In any case, if you're right, I think they could have done a much better job to make the story fit within that set of rules.
I’m surprised no one capitalized on the success of this movie and made a Jumanji video game. It could be a Rogue-Like where every time you die you start right back to the beginning and have to collect new weapons or perks for every run.
This is definitely the type of movie where it doesn't really matter if you may have seen it before - all the journey and the destination is pretty clear.
There was an animated Jumanji TV show, based on the first movie! The premise was that Alan was still trapped in the jungle, and Judy and Peter were still playing. Every time they rolled the game gave them a rhyming riddle and then they got sucked into the jungle, and could only get back by solving the riddle. So, jungle adventures which eventually led them to figure out the puzzle each time.
Technically there was another sequel back in the day relating to Jumanji. It was the same premise but it was a space game rather than a jungle game called Zathura. It was with Josh Hutcherson when he was a kid and I really enjoyed it, not as much as the original Jumanji though ❤
Even though I like what Bobby Cannavale‘s doing as Van Pelt, I do like the idea of like maybe the principal being Van Pelt as like a reference to Alan’s dad being Van Pelt. Or even more interesting ideas since all the teachers were played by character actors have like a bunch of villains that are all the teachers.
Have you guys seen Zathura? It's actually a Jumanji movie. As a book it was the sequel to Jumanji (same idea, of a board game coming to life), but more importantly, the game itself starts out as Jumanji and only becomes Zathura when the kid who found it ignores Jumanji and isn't interested in it. Jumanji "transforms" into Zathura, which is a space-based game that appeals more to the kid. I imagine that is where this idea sprouted from.
I love that this movie confirms that the two kids from the first movie remember everything that happened while playing the board game, that they didn't just forget everything
30:31 there might’ve been four remotes cause there were four kids in detention. So if there was only three kids in detention there would’ve only been three remotes. Can’t think logically with this game. It’s magic and only wants to trap you in its game.
I always found it interesting to consider the will behind the game in the universe's lore. Jumanji as potrayed in the movies is dangerous but not evil. It seems to appear people whis life is stagnating in a way that keeps them away from their potential. So it challenges them and causes all sorts of collateral damage that it fixes when the players find their way and become able to complete it. Considering the harm it causes to people that its able to reverse, its quite possible no one is in danger of truly dying permanently if the game is cleared, yet its not like the players would ever know that. Only person we have seen who wasn't restored was a person who chose to stay for their own reasons.
the fact that it was supposed to be tom holland instead of nick jonas because tom had spider-man scheduling conflicts i will always wonder how it would be if he was in this
You guys skipped "Zathura" which is an unofficial sequal to Jumanji, though not made by the same production team, it is based on a follow-up book by Jumanji author Chris Van Allsburg.
Maybe I’m crazy, but I find this to low key be the Rock’s best acting performance as well as the others, too. You can see and hear the “kids” inside all of them.
This script was written by the Kasdans. Mostly the son but also the father, one of the most celebrated screenwriters who wrote Raiders of the Lost Arc, Empire Strikes Back, Return of the Jedi and Last Crusade. His son Jake is the main writer of both these films as well as New Girl. Celebrate writers! 📝 This script is the reason these films are as good as they are!
The one thing that bugs me about this movie is that Colin Hanks character immediately recognizes the four teenagers on the street who he has never seen before. He's been out of that game for 20 years, and this is just a random day for him.
they dont have detention here, we have ISS in school suspension, or suspension where they send us home for a few days to play video games, weirdest punishment but eh who am i to argue lol. in ISS they once told me i can go to the rest room when the class goes to lunch, so i used his plant in the corner, the cop was amused when i insisted on pressing child abuse charges as its illegal to deny rest room breaks to minors in your care lol the coach wasnt when the cop said i was right and he would have to take him in with me for my indecent exposure... unless he wanted to hange his story... and thats how i never got told no for a restroom break again... for that year before i dropped out and started my 1st lawn care business a year later...

@@passionsquietrage I think most people have. That's why I'm surprised he remembers it.
27:27 that giant plant in the fireplace absolutely terrified me as a kid lol
Technically there was another sequel back in the day relating to Jumanji. It was the same premise but it was a space game rather than a jungle game called Zathura. It was with Josh Hutcherson when he was a kid and I really enjoyed it, not as much as the original Jumanji though ❤
Is this the Soft Reboot of Jumanji you'd always hoped for???
This is honestly my fav Jumanji.
Yes
It was far better than I hoped for. It’s been confirmed as a sequel and not just a reboot.
Zathura: A Space Adventure was better!!!!!!!!
It’s a sequel to the first Jumanji
The school in this movie is actually the high school I graduated from in Atlanta. It's also the school from the Stargirl and Ms. Marvel shows.
Cool!
This made my day. These movies are so good!
Drink when The Rock does his signature "smolder."
In my opinion this is the best Jumanji movie and it isn't even close.
I know the principal has played other people, but I just know him as Kevin from Brooklyn Nine Nine.❤
i love how both aaron and greg cant remember if they've seen a movie or not cuz of the green. Yall make perfect reactors 😂
I love the original so was worried this wouldn't live up to it, but it did a great job both honoring the original while being its' own thing as well.
the actors being so good(even the rock, he got better with time compare to tooth fairy) carried this movie
Jumanji is a trickster demon. Not a magic spell. The game is alive so it transformed into something it can lure players with.
Much appreciated Naked Brothers Band reference at 30:38
Loved that group as a kid and the show. I didn't realize Spencer was Alex Wolff until the third or fourth time watching this movie.
karen gilan is underrated
The 2nd one is hilarious! Should watch!
Collin Hanks was a perfect cast choice 👌
Even though I like what Bobby Cannavale‘s doing as Van Pelt, I do like the idea of like maybe the principal being Van Pelt as like a reference to Alan’s dad being Van Pelt. Or even more interesting ideas since all the teachers were played by character actors have like a bunch of villains that are all the teachers.
Not enough people even know about Zathura. You have to do it!
Did Robin Williams make an appearance in it?
The Jumanji drum that Aaron keeps doing just makes me think of the Ant Man commercial
If you want to enjoy another action-packed comedy watch rush-hour movies starring Jackie Chan and Chris Tucker
I love the canon explination for rewatches is that of the Rejects that are rewatching is because they were too high to remember it the first time.
After those dance-fighting moves, she's gonna crush it in gym class when they get back!
Wow! You guys are on a Jumanji roll😊😊 *rolls the dice*
them 'vegatables" will f you up man 🤣🤣
The principal would make a great cyborg after all he is married to a robot captain
“ we named her after the girl who saved my life”
Instant tears every time lol
I love that this movie confirms that the two kids from the first movie remember everything that happened while playing the board game, that they didn't just forget everything
alan was stuck in Jumanji he went in a kid but came out as robin williams
30:31 there might’ve been four remotes cause there were four kids in detention. So if there was only three kids in detention there would’ve only been three remotes. Can’t think logically with this game. It’s magic and only wants to trap you in its game.
“What you need is in the basket, one falls smooth and you’re in a casket.”
Aaron- BARS! 😂
They all did so amazing at showing the teenage personalities, first rate.....the next one is even better
I loved this Jumanji. ❤❤❤
Only person we have seen who wasn't restored was a person who chose to stay for their own reasons.
this movie was so good
We really need a jumanji origin story and the kids at the begining of the original game
the fact that it was supposed to be tom holland instead of nick jonas because tom had spider-man scheduling conflicts i will always wonder how it would be if he was in this
Wait really?! I had never heard of this!
@@JackieWarner13 really? They literally mention it when reading the movie trivia’s near the end of the video …..
@@gabrielleroux2333 hasn't finished
@@JackieWarner13 so you’re one of those people commenting before even watching the video ??
@@gabrielleroux2333 dude relax , it's not like answering him costs anything bruh
Kevin Hart’s character is the best thing that happened in this movie
Lmao “you know it’s proper because the camera is spinning” 😆
Gotta finish the series off with Zathura: A Space Adventure!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!🎉
I acrually watched this before original Jumanji and it BLEW MY MIND!
@@RabbitWhiteThe as did I!!!!! The practical work in this movie was sooooooooo good
Been asking for over a year lol
@simplebull210 I shall carry this torch onwards 😅
You guys skipped "Zathura" which is an unofficial sequal to Jumanji, though not made by the same production team, it is based on a follow-up book by Jumanji author Chris Van Allsburg.
Zathura IS Jumanji. Danny passes over Jumanji when he sees it, and Jumanji transforms into Zathura to appeal to him more and tempt him to play it.
30:38-30:40 I DIDN'T THINK ANYONE WOULD CATCH THAT ALEX WAS IN THE NAKED BROTHERS BAND😂😂
U guys should have ur own line of merch too!!! 😂❤
Maybe I’m crazy, but I find this to low key be the Rock’s best acting performance as well as the others, too. You can see and hear the “kids” inside all of them.
Kevin and Dwayne's bond 😘😘😘😘
Had to come check this out after watching the recent sequel reaction. Good chemistry here.
Colin Hanks plays the character of Seaplane in the real world.
You guys gotta do Zathura! Its a story by the same author and was the original sequel to the first jumanji book.
After the first Jumanji, so many ppl have told them this. I'm surprised they haven't listened yet.
Alex looks like he gives great hugs
"Absolutely loved your reaction to 'Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle'! Dwayne Johnson and the whole cast brought such great energy. It’s so fun to see your genuine reactions to the twists and humor! What was your favorite moment? Can't wait to see more of your first-time watches!" 🎥🌟
The original is a classic (Robin Williams is an icon), but I prefer these two later ones for being more action flicks with even better comedy
both of the new jumajis are hilarious
14:30 great timing with the NPC 😂
YAYYY I WAS HOPING THEY WOULD DO THIS
with the regular jumanji we never techinically got to the point in the timeline where Judy and peter started the game.
Regarding the plagiarism thing in the beginning, schools have software doing the checking. They upload all papers to a database that checks for similarities. The database also check against sources like books and scientific papers. It is also used at university level to check that you have references for everything.
Zathura was one of my all time favorites when i was a kid
I can actually see the teacher recognizing that sentence, especially if he likes to use various versions of it in his papers.
I first watched Jumanji when i was a teenager and i kind of wasnt interested in seeing this movie or the second. Anyway, me and my little sister were bored one night and watched both movies back to back and we just LAUGHED. Was such a good time, a core memory for sure. Glad yall are reacting to this.
SO GLAD someone other than me can still reference the Venom song now. Fuckin awesome.
GREAT MOVIE!!! and a worthy sequel to the original :) 🥰🥰🥰
RiP Robin Williams :( 💔💔😭😭
He was truly one of a kind 😢
May he rest in peace 🙏
I was in ISS on the regular. (in school suspension) basically detention.
Yes. She does play Nebula
these movies are just a really fun time, great reaction! I'd def play the video game version of Jumanji, not the board game lmao
Where they are right now is where the stampede scene in Jurassic Park was filmed. Hawai’i 16:57
You guys should finish with 2005s Zathura.
Also Dave & Buster's is fun especially now that you can gamble there now 😅
21:22 I wouldn't mind being Kevin Heart.
There were cellphones in the first Scream movie and that was 1996.
