  • This is how we get online when we are away in the Caravan using the Netgear Nighthawk M1 mobile router , & external Antenna's. I know it might not be a priority for everyone having internet access when away & I totally understand that. We use it for work (Have to do a bit while away) as well as streaming on the tv and Internet Radio.

    Hi James, Nice vlog. We have a similar setup with Nighthawk 2 & Poynting Puck 2 antenna. Much better wifi when you have a decent SIM and coverage. cheers Martin

      Thanks Martin, Yes Really pleased with the way it works, had it early last year and only had to use the Poynting Antenna once at Hillhead in Devon. Giving the Nighthawk a home in the top cupboard, it seems to work well most of the time. I use a 3 Unlimited Data Sim that has been ok so far.

Waiting for the madness to settle down then will probably look at some CL's. Thanks for your subscription and comments. Stay Safe

    Hi James, did the Night Hawk auto detect the connection of the external antenna, or is there a “hidden” setting within a menu? When I attach my Poynting antenna I loose connection to the mobile network.
    Many Thanks

      No I haven't had that issue the M1 kind of Auto Connects, I have actually just this week upgraded to the M2, & the same thing no problem, I have though also upgraded to a permanent Roof Mounted Antenna. Do you have the SMC to TS9 adaptors, (You must have or you would not be able to connect the Poynting) I wonder if the problem is with the Poynting, How are you mounting it. As I have just upgraded, I have my Poynting Spare and I am happy to send that to you for a loan to try and see if that is the issue. Let me know & I hope you get it sorted.

      Hi, thanks for watching. With regards to the Antenna, I have found you don't have to blow the bank and spend a fortune, but on the same token don't get the cheapest. There are quite a few bingfu Antennas available, and which one to choose is dependent on your use and how you will mount it. Hope that helps James

    Hello, I’m just in the process of getting a setup like this… but before I shell out £300… in an area where your phone is bouncing between 3G/4G have you found this device and the antenna really give you a suitable connection and speed increase over hot-spotting through an iPhone?… thanks 🙏

      Hiya Thanks for commenting yes I have and find the Antenna makes a big difference. The Antenna is powered and also on the outside of your caravan so the signal is improved compared to the Antenna within your phone. James

      Hi Christine, yes I am aware of the Dome Antenna and would even consider having one fitted as well. The Netgear Nighthawk router works really well if you can get a 4g signal. In a lot of cases I see no difference to the Internet at home. Stay Safe.

    Hi James . I usually use my mobile when away as a hotspot with unlimited data. I also use the same mobile for my work. I have no problem with anyone accessing my wok files. If I use the 4G poynting Antenna. Does it have the facility to connect a C type or Micro connector to facilitate mobile connection. As you come across as a bit of a Techno buff please advise.
    Cheers Chris

    • @CaravanEscapades101
      @CaravanEscapades101  3 роки тому +1

      Hi Guys, Yes I used to use the Mobile as the Mobile Hotspot as I found that site WIFI was only good for very basic internet usage. I didn't have any real problem with Data as I had an unlimited plan on my phone. It just meant that the phone was the prime source of the Internet. Using the Nighthawk, just meant that I can stick it away in the cupboard and forget about it, Almost like the router at home. The Pointing has SMA Connectors on it which do connect to some routers, The Nighthawk has TS9 so I have used a couple of little SMA to TS9 converters. Most Routers have 2 Connections for the External Antenna and the Poynting Antenna has 2 leads and the Smaller Antenna's I showed in the Vlog also came in a Pair, When you Say C Type or Micro Connector, I assume you are talking about the USB C & Micro USB connectors at the bottom of the phone. I have done a Quick Google Search and it seems that USB C or Micro to SMA does not exist. I don't believe that the USB connector on your phone is connected to the Internal Antenna on your phone so don't think this will work. Thanks for watching and commenting. Stay Safe.
