From Storage to Adventures, Prepping, Repairs & Reflecting on the Year
In this episode of Caravan Escapades, we’re kicking off a new adventure by collecting the caravan from storage and bringing it home to pack and prep for our upcoming trip! 🚐✨ But it wasn’t all smooth sailing - there was a near miss on the way, where towing the Land Rover nearly led to a close encounter with the back of a Mercedes! 😬
Once safely back home, we tackle a persistent leak in the air awning beam that’s been giving us trouble for a while. Will we finally fix it? 🤞
We also take some time to sit down and reflect on the highs and lows of the past year, sharing some of our favourite moments and what we’ve learned along the way. Looking ahead, we talk about our plans and goals for the coming year,
As always, we want to thank you - our amazing subscribers and followers - for being part of this journey with us. Wishing you all a Happy Christmas and a Wonderful New Year! 🎄✨

We Have Had A New Arm Rest Fitted !!!
Great video, actually a nice site. BUT, please slow down your camera movements… by the time we got to the family units I needed to stop playing as I felt car sick!!!
Happy new year James to you and your family watched all your videos from day one, been a great mix but prefer the site ones especially abroad, hope you all have a great year 👍
Thank you, that's very kind of you to say amd thank you for sticking with us. 😁. I didn't realise it, but it had been 4 years last week that we started the Channel.
And what size and width of kartt wheel did you fit 👍
Lol, i am not sure. To be honest, it was the Heavey Duty one. You can get the complete Jockey Wheel assembly from Kartt, which is great as there is no unwinding or lowering of the wheel while you travel.
Hi m8 quick question thinking of changing my jockey wheel on my van I have similar van to you how does it perform with motor mover thanks advise be great full Steve
Hi Steve, it performs really well. It's much better than the one supplied with the Caravan, and I have used a Pneumatic one in the past, which was useless. I have been very happy with it. .
Happy new year Welcome to dorset james
@paulhunt1836 Thank You Paul 😁
We are at Hunters Moon too. Happy New Year 🎉.
@@ClaireKirby-o5x Small World. Say hi if you see us.
Have you been here long. We arrived last Friday and are heading home tomorrow.
@@CaravanEscapades101 we were there for 3 nights, now it’s beautiful and sunny we are back at home! But we are going to go back there in the summer as so much to see and do and only 50mins away from home . P.s a bit rocky and rolly New Year’s Eve in the caravan!!
it is a lovely site. yes lovely day today and we spent it at Corfe Castle which was great and very enjoyable. yes, it was very windy NYE.
Did you get to try The Silent Woman pub?
@nicolataylor We are planning on going later, all being well.
@CaravanEscapades101 do. It's a basic pub but do really nice food and a good pint. Thought about popping by ro say hello to you, but reckoned you dont want random strangers showing up. It's down to you that a few years ago, I bought our Kampa Dometic Grande 390, air awning and extension; after seeing your video about it. We love it, so thanks for that. Enjoy your stay.
@nicolataylor Hi, nice one. We have booked into the pub for a meal at 5pm. You are welcome to come and say hi. I am really glad that one of our vligs was of use to you. It makes what we do worthwhile. 😁
@CaravanEscapades101 definately worthwhile. I've used so many of your tips and tricks in recent years. Glad you get to go to The Silent Woman. There's quite an interesting g story of why it's named such. Can't remember, but I think they have the history somewhere in the pub. Their chips are pretty good too.
Thats very kind of you but i dont want to intrude on your holiday..enjoy your meal at The Silent Woman. Let me know what you think of it. @CaravanEscapades101
Happy new year to you too... You're literally just 2 miles up from where I live in Wareham. We often stay in the site almost opposite Hunters Moon. Birchwood Tourist Park. Well worth staying there if you're down this way again
We will take a look at Birchwood next time we are down in Dorset 😁
Happy New Year to you too. It was a bit windy yesterday evening and overnight, it fair rocked the caravan about but it seems to have settled down now!
@SusiB13 The wind has settled down here now, but the rain has replaced it. We are taking refuge at the end of Bournmouth Pier. 🌧
I have no idea who you are, but a very Happy New Year to you and yours.
@trytellingthetruth.2068 lol thank you very much. We have a small UA-cam channel where I share our adventures 😁
Happy new year James to you and your family 👍
@kenperrin8582 Thank you and to you to. 😁
Thanks for your advice and tips for 2024 keep the good work up . Can I recommend a touring site for you for to visit next year it’s Wern Mill Newquay west Wales it’s outstanding read all the reviews. Happy new year 🎉 from John and Michelle Downey
Do they not zip on.? The sides
@raygeary1698 Hi, no, they don't. However, the design may have changed now as I have had it for about 4 years
Thanks for this, we are planning our summer holiday in our caravan and this was very informative.. Defo getting the boat!!
Thank you, and no problem at all. I am glad I could help. I just can't justify the difference in the cost of the tunnel to the Ferry. to me, the difference is th3 cost of the fuel to the south and back. I get the convince of the tunnel but not at the cost.inhave heard of people getting good prices, but I have never managed it. have a great holiday
Have a good Christmas all of you. Always enjoy your blog’s, look forward to more of your blog’s in 2025 😊
James I would like to have seen Claire face when she saw you dragging that old awning onto her nice white living room carpet, my wife would have sent me to bed with no dinner😂🤣😂🤣
Upgrade is either self levelling or Lithium Battery, we had the Battery conversion carried out this year on our Adria Seine and is it super with the extra solar panels to boot, happy xmas keep up the great Vlogs
E&P levelling system. If so…….it’s a good investment. Especially in these winter months, quick easy and well worth it. Also regarding your leaky screw valve…… as a last resort you could try using flo plast a plastic solvent cement! Might save you buying a new bladder if the O ring and PTFA doesn’t work!? If there’s a crack it may seal it!? 🤔 In any case have a Merry Christmas!🎅 Thanks J 👍
Thank you for the Tip. I have just used some Plumbers weld and will have to see how that holds up. I think there is a Crack in the Threads on the Valve it will stay strong enough for about 6 to 8 hours but then needs air adding, Lets see how we get on while away. Good Guess on the Upgrade but you will have to wait and see :-). Have a great Christmas to.
Have a great Christmas guys 🎄🥂
You To Colin & Family 🎄
I’m saying Wi-Fi James, We generally caravan in the uk for our summer holidays (as well as a long weekend every month), I /we love Scotland and have been looking at a caravaning tour holiday round Scotland next summer, visiting a few sites on the way. This year has been the best ever for us caravaning, getting away every month and 2 longer week holidays (Easter and summer). We love your videos along with a few other UA-camrs , look forward to them coming up, enjoy Christmas with the family James, and we look forward to your vids next year. Merry Christmas and a happy new year Tom and family
Thank you for your Kind Words, We keep talking about taking the Van to Scotland but Just haven't done it yet, We must make it a Priority. Hopefully we can get out more this year as well. Oh and its Not Wifi that I am upgrading 🙂. Have a great Christmas & New Year
E&p self leveling
😁- You Will have to wait and see
@@CaravanEscapades101 if it is e&p double check the weight of it I was told it only added about 25kg after the old ones are removed luckily my caravan is up plated and could take the extra
Looks interesting, i only have the can that seals and pumps at the same time, although it's only temporary, suppose it would work with a screw as long as I left it in. Might think about getting the kit. Carpers are deffo an improvement, but I do prefer my solution where I cut an offcut exactly to size with underlay.
@CaravanningwiththeMrs I do have one of those temporary repair foam things that you squirt in the tyre. I have heard some horror stories about them, though. This kit was only £25 and can be used multiple times. The full carpets do make a big difference. Nice one on getting an offcut sorted for your caravan. Happy Camping 😁
That tyre is barely legal
@SteveAshford-p3k I did check it, and it is close. They are being changed this week.
Hi James. Hey buddy I've had that man flu thingy, can't get rid of the cough. Looks a great bit of kit, repair tyres in an emergency. Does look like the tyre needs to be retired soon.🌝 Carpets looking great, carpets in a caravan makes that homily feel. Thanks James, great vlog. Thumbs up thumped 👍 ....Pete and Su....
Yes it has taken an age too get shifted and the Wife doesn't understand how bad it has been 🤣. Thanks for your comments, its been a great repair kit, Worked a treat on both the Mercedes and now the Tesla, Agree I have already started to get quotes for a new set of boots. Thanks again for your support. James
If you need new tyres check out Asda online, just bought two for the wife’s Merc, Asda was the cheapest. Keep up the good work man.
Thanks. I appreciate that, I will take a look. do they come to you to do it.
The tyre looks like it should be replaced
It is very near the limits and I will be getting a full set of boots fitted this week, 😀
Interesting vlog👍. Where did you get that clock from?
Hi I got it from Habitat years ago, they still do them, I love it, its not cheep mind. www.habitat.co.uk/product/3156535
Even Second hand on Ebay they are not cheep www.ebay.co.uk/itm/135098021298?_skw=flappy+clock&itmmeta=01JFA4E1DQV98HZ4HQQ56E49KD&hash=item1f747835b2:g:h6cAAOSwdu1mZvGC&itmprp=enc%3AAQAJAAAA4HoV3kP08IDx%2BKZ9MfhVJKluQj9iTUfCoLQobQbgfevSWD9mlitUhOWAMy%2F3o0hv31ZC2orVT9qRW2NqaVpaD1h76Uf4F3Y15eZrVOX02vE8kb0qdDCANzJcx1Yv9W%2FMMIqz%2B3QhY%2BprHY%2FJn4T75gl3e9d%2BVLFQzMceT%2F1uOCWxqoKBO64bKTgI884R9IT3eWElXqJJ5vsFLJmlsYLhGVaIjKiPa0Zpa9O82RHwdEehvQc2vdGkMmq627CAdh3EgJ7CfzrO8EwgufpKZb2aFJ%2BWr67rzxnDm57W7qlYbLiZ%7Ctkp%3ABFBM_Ja4xPpk
Thanks for a nice one, I would have to buy a jack at the same time as in many modern cars there is only the repair kit with no jack
Lol the Tesla is the same to be honest, I am old school and carry a simple Jack with me
Your life depends on that tyre. I would only have a tyre repaired at a tyre centre.
Thanks for sharing your thoughts - safety is always the top priority when it comes to tyres! The DIY repair kit I used is a temporary fix designed to get you safely back on the road in the event of an unexpected puncture, especially when help isn’t immediately available. It’s a popular option among caravaners, overlanders, and drivers who value self-sufficiency. For comparison: A professional tyre repair at a tyre centre in the UK typically costs between £20-£30, depending on location and service provider. The DIY kit I used cost around £15-£25 and contains multiple plugs, meaning it can repair several tyres. However, it’s worth noting that while the DIY kits can provide a strong and reliable seal, they are often seen as a temporary solution. Most tyre centres use professional patch repairs (combining an internal patch and plug) that are considered a permanent fix and meet British Standards (BS AU 159). I completely agree that any repaired tyre should be checked and, if necessary, re-assessed by a professional to ensure long-term safety. DIY kits are a great tool for emergencies, but they’re not a replacement for professional inspections. Appreciate your concern and feedback - it’s always great to have a discussion about road safety!
Hi yet another interesting video. Did the repair hold out ok .. we’re are you venturing out to for Christmas?. Cheers mike
Thank you, it has held our really well, both on the Mercedes and the Tesla, I find I have to give it a couple of miles drive for it to seal properly straight after the repair, but yes its holding strong.
We are off to Dorset for a week, we are really looking forward to it
Try soapy water too check for leaks 😊
Thanks Good Point, Its holding well, I have done, 300 + miles on the repair and its holding strong.
Bought this today, collected but didn't come in a box... Gonna assume I've been given a display unit, especially considering all the dust inside 🙄 As someone else mentioned in the comments the flap for where the cables are must be real weak as by the time I got it to my car and went to check the cables it was broke 🙈
That does sound like you have an ex display model, I have to be honest, we have been using it for over 3 years now, No problems with it and no broken flap. The only down side is with constant use in hot weather the bottom does fill with water even with removing the drain plug.
Can you refil the gaslight bottles
@roydearne9114 Unfortunately not, you have to take them for exchange like a traditional bottle. The advantage, however, is the weight compared to traditional bottles. I have to say that since filming this vlog I have now swapped to SafeFill bottles, which you can get refilled. I did another vlog on the Safefill.
The problem with shopping for antennas is that none of the products ever get 4 stars as there's always the odd customer that gives a bad review just because they live somewhere remote. You can't make the antenna see something that isn't there. Because of this predicament you can't tell if the ratings are bad because the product is awful or because someone had a bad experience. There are some antennas that are just poorly built, and there are decent ones that get bad reviews that they probably don't deserve.
That's a very good point and thanks for sharing
I also have a Nighthawk (got it for 200 EU}, it's the best mobile router I have seen so far: I tried using many other things like Orbi (stuck on updates at night), ISP mobile routers,USB dongles from 3G with an antenna port
I use it all the time, Not just in the Caravan but whenever I am traveling for work as well, It hasn't let me down, 🙂
