I watched this 2 years ago & thought something was off because I wondered why Bobs son had no part in this. Funny how the Kawolskis act like theyre so innocent and care about Bob & his paintings by introducing themselves through this as these great friends of Bob but its was all to PROTECT THEIR IMAGE. They didn't even attend his funeral, and tried to keep his death a secret to rake in MILLIONS and still do to this day. This is not what he would have wanted. The Kawolskis robbed the ROSS family, and the JENKINS of so much. Bob would not have wanted this at all and these greedy people are in it for the money. Bobs passion was to teach people and spread art and joy. Seeing them talking so highly of Bob with a smirk and a laugh all while knowing Bob is looking down seeing they went against his word, ruined so many lives and destroyed so much is actually the most dark and twisted thing i've seen in a while. They were never Bobs friend, and there is so much injustice to one of the most iconic and famous painters in recent times. Money cant buy a good soul & heart of gold, thats what Bob had that was so special and its ironic that the family that aggressively fought with evil and greedy intentions to own his name is the opposite of that. I am truly horrified. WATCH THE NEW NETFLIX DOC, STOP SUPPORTING BOB ROSS INC. & START DEMANDING JUSTICE FOR THE ROSS FAMILY AND THE JENKINS.
The COWolskis (yes I call them COW) are thieves. You are absolutely right. Too bad not many know about it and still supporting them through BOB name while BOB son lost everything to the COW and dead broke. It is so sad.
About 3 years ago I put on Bob Ross to see how my 3 kids would react (ages 8, 11, 19). 3 min in: *Laughing and mocking* ("look at his hair!") 5 min in: *silence* 10 min in: "Woe!!!" 15 min in: "Wait, what? How did he do that?" 20 min in: "SHHH!!! Don't interrupt!" End of show: "Play another!" ...We watched 5 episodes back-to-back and my daughter took up oil painting.
A positive role model for all, I wish there were still people like him and Fred Rogers for children, and adults to look up to. We still have Big Bird, for now...
God bless Bob's son. I want him to know if he ever reads this that no matter what greedy people did/do, him and his father brought incredible joy to countless people over decades through painting. No one can take that away!

I'm an elementary art teacher. Let me tell you, this man is very beloved by my students. Everytime I put him on at the end of class, even my rowdiest kids just fall silent and stare in awe. Some even watch it like he's a magician and go "HOW DID HE DO THAT??". There's something very calming and reassuring about him.
Yeah, I think he would have disliked if his paintings were sold and then resold as investment pieces like Kincaids. Because even if you sell them once to people who truly love them they'll end up in the commercial art market somehow. Yet I still want one.
No, it isn't what Bob Ross would do! Why are they hoarding them like that? That is not what art is about. These paintings could be auctioned off for charity. Now that is what he would have wanted.
I remembering watching the Bob Ross livestream and he said something like “I like making my painting calm and happy. If want death and violence you can just watch the news.” The chat blew up.
pkunkbwok Bob was a sweet and gentle soul, who took delight in the simplicity and quietness of nature that manifested itself thru his painting brush ! - I enjoyed his Saturday afternoon shows back in the day on PBS.
Bob was from Florida, the state should open a museum for him. We're already a big tourist hub, so when international travelers come here and knew Bob's work they could also come see it and appreciate it.
Umm I don’t know I would say maybe give some to something like a children’s hospitals or cancer centers. I think Bob Ross would not have minded give children something beautiful to see while getting treatment or people fighting cancer.
@@2410jrodI got you point don't but I don't feel like it's their responsibility, or the way to preserve his interests: they lose his art and the people who buy the paintings do it for showing off, they don't understand the simplicity of appreciating the painting the way Bob would, displaying his work is sufficient and ideal, but if they had the gesture of supporting other institutions, the correct way is through a museum, because they could donate part of their profits, keep the paintings and divulge his work to everyone
Evelyn Sand I agree but the Kowalski family owns every single painting from the show and all together there are roughly I think 5000 paintings. I don’t think you could make a museum with all of just one artist especially with about 3 paintings per show it would get redundant. It would not hurt to show a little charity. They can make provisions that the art cannot be sold, given, or gain any profit from it. Who knows ?it can inspire children and adults to start painting and get more of his supplies from their business.
He loved people, he just didn't like painting them. He also mentioned in one episode of his show he was never much of a painter who liked painting people or flowers because he wasn't good at it.
I was smiling so much while watching this that I didn’t notice that I was crying so happily. Bob Ross was such a wonderful person. I wish I could have met him.
My 76 year old sister loves watching his painting show because it’s very relaxing. She has the anxiety depression and all that crap that goes with it. He’s on public TV a couple of times a week. Miss you Bob!
I met Bob Ross in the early 90's. He came to a little bitty small town restaurant (Redkey, Indiana) with some WIPB 49 PBS station execs. I was a waitress and I waited on him. He was very nice. He had a western omelette, wheat toast, and a medium milk for supper. I asked for his autograph when he left. He took a business card out of his pocket? wallet? i don't remember. He signed it "Happy Painting Bob Ross". I still have it of course. The only famous person I have ever met. He was just as gentle and soft spoken in real life.
I work as an archivist for my state's museum and the way those paintings are stories made me sick to my stomach. They have been so lucky nothing has happened to them.
im not an art historian but an artist and seeing the way they're stored and the lack of climate control makes me shudder. they're going to be ruined... like at least hang them up!!
I think people are underestimating the value. These things are worth millions, not the collection just one painting. And there is like 30K paintings. Hundreds of millions.
That’s not dedication it’s preserving their corporate assets. They are the Bob Ross brand because they own the Bob Ross estate. And now they’ve just gotten tremendous PR to boost their sales and bolster their product line/brand. They’re probably waiting to be bought out by a bigger corporation. Either that or they’re really just a bunch of naive idiots run by an elderly hoarder.
I was born in 1994, but watching him on PBS as a poor kid with a couple of Walmart paints and brushes got me to a level of appreciation when my art could pay for my school books. He gave me a new life.
God I can’t watch this the same way after seeing that Netflix Documentary. The people currently running this company are evil, despicable people. They will never see another dime from me and I sincerely hope their shameful business crumbles to the ground.
I read something once that said that the reason why Bob Ross spoke so softly was because once he got out of the military, he said he never wanted to yell ever again.
Don’t have the creative ability to paint but when I watched Bob Ross paint, he makes you feel like you can do it. It’s this weird power he has over the viewers.
Because he happy about it, in his world there's not mistakes but - happy accidents. Oh so much time we use on bringer yourself down, telling ourself that we cant do a thing, or that its to hard. But when faced with the Bob Ross, out negative voices can't get a word in. And i for one am glad that this world had a Bob Ross, he died way to young i say.
I know. I failed my English exam because I was mentally incapable of coming up with an idea to write about given hours to do so but somehow Bob makes me feel like a creative person for 30 minutes. His charisma (and teaching skills) is overpowering.
The paintings will be stored until they are lost in a fire or someone more intelligent will inherit them and sell them for hundreds of millions of dollars and save them from being lost in time.
@@Hvantmiki Bob ross does not want art to have a price, it should be shared and with his video, help people to create their own masterpiece. All his painting in storage is nothing more an happy accident. Plus, some of his painting will be in museum, that is ross really want, to be shared and watch by everyone.
They could open up a gallery, just for one event and let the money go to a charity providing art supplies for low income children. Or just supporting art programmes. I think that would be in great memory of Bob
The ending that announced he would be showcased in the Smithsonian and then him being quoted “never in the Smithsonian” brought a tear to my eye. Congratulations Bob! 🎉
@@AnnAmbler They make their money by selling Bob Ross branded paints and painting equipment globally. I seem to remember Bob didn't take much of a fee from doing the shows, as they acted as great commercials for his art equipment, books and videos.
If you want a Bob Ross painting, paint it yourself. That’s the kind of artist he was, he taught you how to paint by letting you follow along with his own originals!
Exactly!! His painting atyle and technique is not only great to learn but a great springboard for you to add to and expand upon. He wanted people to learn that it's possible to paint and even get better than him if you want.
Thanks to Bob Ross for teaching me so much more about painting. I watched 3 months of Joy of Painting and learnt SO much. HE was a joy to watch. Thanks again. ❤
That's how most painters live. Live broke (most of the time) Become famous once he dies (in other words : Once supplies of paintings stop, the works become invaluable) Besides, I don't have the feeling he was into that kind of stuff.
When I was a little girl, about 6 -8, and I would watch Bob Ross in the afternoon and take a nap afterwards. His voice was so pleasant, and I had happy little dreams:)
The most impressive Bob Ross episode I saw was his response to a viewer who wrote that because he thought he was colorblind he couldn’t paint. The entire episode was dedicated to this viewer and others who had color blindness and Bob Ross only used whites and grays and blacks if I remember right.
The nice thing about Bob Ross paintings is he always used oil pants which generally continue to dry as time progresses. So as long as they are somewhat stored in a condition where the paint won't chip easily, they should be alright. I personally feel the Bob Ross Corporation should someday open up a Bob Ross museum showcasing the paintings and potentially the steps in between if they managed to save some unfinished pieces. It wouldn't be selling his pieces, but showing them off which I don't think Bob wouldn't mind. Perhaps if they charge admission, some of the proceeds could go to a charity in his name. However, it would be up to the corporation to figure that out.
The paintings themselves are not as important as the lessons he taught many aspiring artists how to paint. The paintings themselves have many replications of his paintings as they where all educational pieces rather than done to sell to the highest bidder. Unless you are super rich and want to do an investment and tax avoidance scam which most expensive art basically is some are a permanent part of a museum now that is all that is necessary to fulfil his legacy of the physical art and all his footage has been well archived to hopefully be seen by future generations who want to learn about art.
I dislike that they say Annette “discovered” Bob Ross. They stole his name and image from his family while he was on his deathbed! Go watch the Netflix documentary and boycott Bob Ross Inc! Justice for Bob Ross and Steve Ross (his son)!
He didn't want his painting to be sold, he want his paintings to be copied by who wants his paintings, because for him, he thinks that everyone IS an ARTIST
Bob didn't want his paintings to be copied, quite the opposite actually - he said countless times during the show that he only shows HOW to paint something not WHAT to paint. So when he says that there should be a happy little tree with a friend... You can make a BIG OL' tree somewhere else on the canvas. It's your world and you get to make it however YOU want, not Bob.
The joy of painting - Season 8, Episode 3 Bob speaks about painting and that you shouldn't do it for the revenue you get out of selling it. So I don't think he would be glad if his paintings were to be sold or auctioned. He'd be happy if it was displayed in a museum
With these thousands of paintings and three versions each, they could have a collection for touring museums in the US, and they could still sell a fair few. That way, they could set up a foundation to save all the happy trees and rivers and bushes. 😊
Masha Great idea, better than what I was thinking. I think Bob might have been in favour of auctioning a few off for children’s charities or to promote the arts to school age kids.
I have a question (sort of): I feel like he wouldn't have liked his paintings just sitting around in boxes. Like stated in the video, he just wanted to put a smile on people's faces to make them happy. So why not open a gallery of Bob Ross paintings? The staff could curate which ones would get put up and rotate them out on occasion. People would travel from all over to see these paintings. They wouldn't be for sale, but honestly - I don't think many would mind. Any proceeds (entry fee maybe?), initial funds would go to help keeping the museum/gallery open, and the rest could be donated to veterans since he was one himself. I hate the thought of his paintings just sitting in non-temperature controlled boxes, not looked at, until who knows when.
@I couldn’t think Of anything they could still get stolen where they're at now. At least on display, they would be seen and taken care of better than they are now since a gallery is temp controlled.
@I couldn’t think Of anything You could say that about any famous painting on display in any gallery around the world. They're meant to be enjoyed, not shut away.
That you can't buy them means you have to paint them yourself.

These paintings need to be preserved while they are still in ok condition. All. Of. Them.
That or scan them
The paintings themselves are not as important as the lessons he taught many aspiring artists how to paint.
@@ecos889 Gets it. Bob Ross' art wasn't the painting. It was the SHOW where he made the painting. His artwork is every episode of the show.

This is untrue. He says in his episodes to call your local station if you want to buy one.
Love Bob Ross I would'nt hang one in my garage.
Bob didn't want his paintings to be copied, quite the opposite actually - he said countless times during the show that he only shows HOW to paint something not WHAT to paint. So when he says that there should be a happy little tree with a friend... You can make a BIG OL' tree somewhere else on the canvas. It's your world and you get to make it however YOU want, not Bob.

the paintings would likely get stolen
@I couldn’t think Of anything There isn't much point in saving them if no one can ever see them again.
