- After years of questioning and independent research from a persistent homeowner, the former treasurer of the Lava Bluff HOA in Hurricane confessed to embezzling more than $150,000.
According to a forensic audit conducted by a CPA firm, they believe she transferred even more than that - nearly $250,000 into her personal accounts and gambling accounts.

HOA needs to be abolished
I think HOAs should allow individual residents to opt out of the HOA, and if HOAs don’t allow that then I think a lawsuit should come forth so that a judge or justice finally agrees that HOAs are illegal. They’re worse than unions because at least workers can choose to be a member or not.

Last I heard stealing money was a crime what do I know
Should be an automatic 5 years in prison with stiff probation terms for that amount, but many only serve a couple months in jail. This is happening more and more these days which only affirms the need for stiffer punishment. Nothing worse than a thief.
All hoas need to be removed and sued and leave all homeowners alone

Laws need to be updated. Kickbacks are also happening in HOAs but due to poor regulatory laws owners have little to no recourse. Laws should protect owners and require forensic audits anytime an HOA management changes hands and every 12 years . Since HOA boards are volunteers there aren't training, background checks or regulations to handle finances of an HOA. This should change. Classes are required for a commissioned notary and liability insurance. Same should happen on HOA boards.
I live there and the latest figure was. 285 $. And there's not been any maintenance cn on the. Roads in LavaBluff. This should be prosecuted to the full extent of the law.
Checking your HOA's financial statements is pointless as they're just cooking the books.

HOA means run away. But beyond that there should be an audit done either by appointed community members or an accountant firm.
Even the treasurers embezzled that much, how much did the top guy embezzled that no one know about? A community with 100 homes, each pay $100 per month = 10k/month=120k per year + X amount of violation fees. All those money goes where?
