How to freeze bananas 3 different ways! Perfect for baking, smoothies, cold drinks and more! MORE TIPS AND USES FOR FROZEN BANANAS: www.thereciperebel.com/how-to...
I never thought I’d be looking on UA-cam to learn how to freeze bananas, but here I am & the 2nd method is spot on & helps my bananas from turning too brownish.. thanks for the advice 🫡👍🏾
Thank you so much for making this video. We accidentally overbought on bananas and this will prevent us from having too many overripe or mushy bananas. ☺☺☺☺
Thanks for taking time to show the different ways and explaining outcomes. I appreciate. My banana plant just got its first fruits and was wondering what to with all the ripe bananas. ❤️
Nice, my roommate is foreign and accidentally ordered like 5kg of bananas we’re on a student budget so was looking for a way to preserve them lool great vid!
@@TheAstroflight She does mention freezing them whole. But this video is not about what you can do with frozen bananas, it's about how to freeze bananas.
@@TheAstroflight I'm not sure if you watched the video, but I do talk about freezing bananas whole, peeled. It's not a video about eating bananas, so I didn't get into that part :)
I love to wait until a grocery store marks their bananas way down because they are brown. Once I took 3 pounds to the checkout counter and asked how much for the brown bananas. They gave them to me for free. Score! My only problem is not always enough freezer space. By the way when freezing them whole, just thaw, cut off one end and squeeze out the banana. Great for baking! For cold drinks like protein shakes, I want frozen ones, so I peel and cut like your method #2. Thanks for your video. I’m always up for a new trick. 😊
Albino’s girlfriend here ! I really do love this trick because I am a banana freak and I eat them at least once to twice a week and I always make banana bread if we have extra bananas and I like my bananas really bright and yellow and my boyfriend likes them with a little bit a few brown spots on them but nonetheless this is a great way to save them thank you so much for sharing!! Fun fact ~ my boyfriend actually works for a place where they have too many overstock of fruits and vegetables and he just came home with at least 30 to 40 bananas the other day! Definitely going to go with the third trick because I want to be able to use them multi purposely! 🍌🍌🍌🍌🍌
I was wondering at what stage you like to throw them in the freezer. If they’re green is that too early? I normally just freeze the left over ones but I’ve been making more smoothies and would like to stockpile. Do you like to wait for a few brown spots? I’ve heard green are more fibrous and yellow have more sugar.
You could do it at any time you like but I usually wait until they are starting to go brown, just because that's when no one in my house will eat them anymore :)
Always have good intentions of eating all the Banana's we buy but end up letting them get too ripe then bake with them. I tried method #2 - Worked great after a few weeks, took them out & ate them as a snack and made a smoothie. Thank you for the video
Ahhh, I'm new to baking and I wanted to save some perfectly ripe bananas to use for banana bread so I tossed the bananas, unpeeled, into a freezer bag and into the freezer. When I took them out a few days later the peels were very brown (browner than yours) and after thawing and peeling they were super mushy but still yellow. I didn't trust it and tossed them. Question, when you freeze them unpeeled do you not put them in a freezer bag?
That is totally fine! They will be dark brown-black after freezing. I mostly freeze in chunks for smoothies and in the peels for baking. When I want to use them for baking, I just thaw in the peel and squeeze out. They will be super mushy, but they're great for baking.
I cut up a lot of banana chunks and froze them in a baggie for later. I didn't know about flash freezing them first though. (Before watching this) Is that why my chunks look dark and gross in the freezer now? Are the chunks supposed to stay light when frozen? I'm afraid these would make my smoothies slimy. I don't know why I keep failing at this. I really need to master this. 🤞
I have zero problem peeling frozen bananas for smoothies- super quick & easy! Also I know people who use the entire ORGANIC BANANA in their smoothies for added nutrition. I was given a case of bananas & put 3/4 of them directly in the chest freezer! 🥰
I have a question. (sorry for my language) If you keep them long in the freezer, will they have more calories than the usual banana? It may sound stupid but I know that dry bananas have more calories than the normal ones, so, does the calories change if I freeze one and use it like 2-3 weeks later for a smoothie or smth?
I'm not a nutrition expert so I can't really say for sure. I would expect that it would stay at whatever calorie amount they had when you put them in the freezer
The peels are going to turn brown but it won't affect the banana inside. If you peel them, they will brown after a period of time, but they are still fine to eat.
@@suzisaintjames When they are out of the peel? Mine do get a little sticky too but they're perfectly find to eat and are great in smoothies and milkshakes :)
@@TheRecipeRebel , sorry... I didn't write my question clearly. I freeze mine peeled when they are over ripe and they are sticky when frozen. Even if I freeze them on a tray and then put them in the bag, they still stick together. It's no fun trying to cut them apart to use frozen. Any ideas on how to keep them separated in the bag? Yes, they are still usable and really, really sweet because they are so ripe... Which means, no added sugar... A huge plus! 💖🌞🌵😷
@@suzisaintjames Yes mine are sticky when frozen as well :) Mine still stick a little but I don't find them too hard to break apart. If I am using for baking, I freeze whole in the peel. Then they don't stick at all
The peels will turn brown in the freezer, that is normal. The sliced bananas won't turn completely brown but after a few months in the freezer they are a slightly darker color.
Thank you for sharing your knowledge.

They will stay light in colour for some time but they will darken the longer they sit. They are still safe to eat but just don't look as appealing :)
Thanks for the info! Great to know. How long will they keep in the freezer?
I would say 6-12 months

There are so many great ways to use frozen bananas! :)
Thank you. Awesome video. I never knew. I was a I'll throw it away but hope to never do that again.
I'm so glad!
Facts
What does flash freezing mean? How is that different from freezing the ones on the cookie sheet?
Flash freezing is just that :) Freezing individually for an hour or two before placing in a bag or container
@@TheRecipeRebel oh okay thanks I thought it was something to do with blanching it with boiling water before you freeze it.
do they loose their antioxidant properties like other fruits, watermelon for example ?
I'm not a dietician so I can't comment on the nutritional value
Thank you girl 😃 🍌
💖💖
Can u also freeze them but don't use it for baking or making smoothie? Just eat as it is?
If you freeze and thaw they will be mushy. You can eat them frozen.
If I don’t have paper, can I use plastic wrap or aluminum foil?
I would choose plastic wrap -- I'm not sure if they would stick to aluminum or not
Thank you😍
Can I use butter paper to wrap them?
I'm not even sure what that is!
Can we use frozen bananas for oat meal prep?
Definitely!
What amount of time should they be consumed after freezing?
Food that stays frozen is safe to consume indefinitely
How do you keep them from oxidizing and turning brown even in the freezer?
The peels are going to turn brown but it won't affect the banana inside. If you peel them, they will brown after a period of time, but they are still fine to eat.
how long does it lasts?
I would use within 3 months for best results, but they shouldn't go bad if kept frozen
How long are they good in freezer?
They will not spoil as long as they are frozen. They are probably best used within 6 months.
How long?
I didn’t even know you could freeze them
I freeze my bananas off my trees in the back yard as well as mangos, dragon fruit, guava and other tropical fruit, and no I don't live in Kansas!
I bought some frozen bananas and it was pretty expensive so this way it will be much cheaper
How do you prevent freezer burn?
A freezer bag is your best bet. Even if they change in color or texture in the freezer they are still safe to use as long as they have stayed frozen.
How long can I store them for maximum?
Likely for 6-12 months. They will not go bad in the freezer, but they might not be as fresh if you leave them longer.
@@TheRecipeRebel ok thanks alot ❤️
How long can they stay in freezer
They are safe to eat indefinitely if they stay frozen but are best used within 6-8 months
Can ido this just with parchment paper?
Yep :)
@@TheRecipeRebel thank you
How long does it take a banana to thaw?
Maybe 2-3 hours if it is whole
How do you prevent that slime it releases when its frozen
I haven't found mine to be slimy, but you definitely want to use them frozen and not thaw them
@@TheRecipeRebel , mine get sticky even when frozen for weeks. I think it's because they are riper than yours. Any ideas?💖🌞🌵😷

You are Pretty as well as your recipes ☺️
So you can’t freeze bananas if you want to use them for a Banana Pudding, or can you ?
I wouldn't, no. They get pretty soft.
tired of these damn things going bad before i get to even eat them. it is the dawn, of a new era.
I bet if I open your freezer door I'll see bags and bags of frozen bananas.
Haha, nope! My kids have been polishing them off before I can freeze them.
I prefer the 3rd method…. Banana ice cream, cheap & healthy … without much sugar !!!
what if you don't a have space in the freezer to lay them out :(
If you’re freezing them in the peel you can just toss them in - they don’t have to be in a single layer
Why do I need a baking sheet?
What would you put them on otherwise?
@@TheRecipeRebel first time doing it so wasn’t sure. I just airsealed them peeled in a ziplock bag. Is the baking sheet to absorb moisture?
@@persadsanjay The baking sheet is to flash freeze them so they don't stick together

The peels will turn brown in the freezer, that is normal. The sliced bananas won't turn completely brown but after a few months in the freezer they are a slightly darker color.
BANANAS
What if the skin black friend gave me big bunch skin black
As long as they are not rotten I think they could still be frozen
well i made the huge mistake to just throw bananas in the freezer, peel and all bahhahaha
I do that all the time :)

Yes the peel will change color

I don't like bananas
I laugh too everytime i speak. Not
