"It's a base model but it's pure" - absolutely! I also think the base 987 will be seen as a classic in years to come. I won't be selling mine anytime soon. Great video, thank you Klaus and Max
Awesome Klaus!! Thank you for this video- spoken from the heart. Could not agree more about all of the comments. The market simply has not woken up to the 987 2.7... yet. Rare beauty!
Thank you both. Of course it is just a subjective sensation with my 987.1. But what I can definitely say is that I am one of a very few guys that own both....the smallest and the strongest exclusive Cayman ;-)
Hey Klaus... Nice video! THANK YOU! I have a 2007 987 S with 396,000 Miles on it. FULL Synthetic Oil + Filter every 5k miles! 2007 Porsche 19" Turbo wheels... Arctic Silver w/ Terracotta full leather w/ carbon fiber trim. Same steering wheel! BEST car I have ever owned... I have pumped it up a bit w/ headers to stock exhaust, GT3 TB /Intake manifold, Flashed the chip about 365BHP, replaced stock plastic shift mechanism w/ machined aluminum adjustable short throw shift mechanism, aluminum flywheel... (GREAT addition when changing out clutch) spins up much faster... New set Bilstein shocks... It sounds great especially around 5-6k RPM's... Very fast... I'm in Florida (SUN)... so needs some paint work roof and top of back fenders... But What a fantastic car... Super fun EVERY time you get in it. It is almost the ultimate daily driver... Why get a 911? The dealer says mine is faster than a lot of 911's and handles unbelievable. Bought it a Brumos 2010 w/ 40K Mi. on it... before they sold the store... Hurley Haywood track Instruction day... Got to ride a couple laps w/ Hurley at the wheel of the 911 that he won the 1991 24Hr Daytona in! What a humble friendly guy! Yes, I agree that these cars are the new 356! Classic design and driver engagement/enjoyment... Becoming increasingly rare, as these cars are invariably turned into race cars in the States. Would like a GT4 But as you said, how much different is the experience... I will drive one soon... But perhaps this car is not so different, which is what I need to experience. White is a very nice Porsche color too. Gotta have the Manual! Thanks again Max and Klaus! Have fun... Be careful... John Russell, Dade City, Fl.
WOW!! Your car sounds amazing on several fronts!! Can I please double check the mileage?? If so, this is the highest mileage Cayman I have *EVER* come across. 396k miles?! If so, it’s damn true what they say about changing oil far more often than the manufacturer suggests. I have an oil specialist coming onto this channel soon (Blackstone Laboratories), and this is something I’m going to drill-down into. I see you’re in Florida, is your new shifter from Numeric Racing by any chance? They’re in Tampa I believe, and the owner is featuring this weekend on our Sunday Livestream!! I have nothing against the 911, if someone has one, great for them. Just not for me when a Cayman ticks all the boxes, and I prefer the smaller form factor. Your ride sounds real special, if you are willing to send in a subscriber video to this channel that would be awesome. Just look at previous videos to see the format. Would really like to get my eyes on the mods you have done, and hear how it revs with the GT3 throttle body.
@@tomingrassiaimages8776 Nope... No smoke... Does NOT burn oil... Is "ALL of THAT" at 5-6-7,000 RPM's... You are at Sebring on the On Ramp to I-75! 0-60 about 4 FLAT. I got the shifter at Porsche of Tampa 4-5 years ago. New Bilsteins all around... Rides very flat... firm. I'll do a video sometime in the next few months... Almost 397,000 presently. I've had several 944 series... '87 944 Turbo that was over 300k, 968 with 235k on the odo that was totaled when I got hit by an 84 y/o guy with Dementia. 88.5 944 Turbo S that I sold... ALL Great cars but the Cayman S has been the BEST! Love Michelin Super Sports!
Agreed, although it’s not so hidden now that so many people have waxed lyrical about their Caymans on this channel. It’s the most popular model here by far!
...again there must be something about the BASE model. I think for a purist, base models can be very rewarding because you can drive 9/10 more of the time in a higher rev range hence get more of the driving feeling. I think I will consider a base cayman as a daily driver.....
Klaus and I would get along just fine. I too have a 2.7 base (MY08) with the Sports Package (Klaus' car is the only other one I've ever seen, are there only 2 of us?)...and it's just the most wonderful thing to get in and drive, hard. That it's a little down on power means I get to drive it harder, for longer before having to back off. I'm only 600 miles into my ownership so far...is that too early to declare the car perfect?
Came across your video, well done and I feel you. 718 base here, 2 l, 300 HP, love it and it will stay with me till the end of time! Greetings from KC.
Hi Great car and nice to see you appreciate the base cayman for what it is. I also have 987.1 2008 model year. For me it just offers great value for money. Thanks for sharing your vid, sentiments and comments
Great video - thanks Klaus! It's good to see that you have so much passion for both your 987.1 Base and your GT4 SCE. Enjoy them both and thanks for sharing them with us.
I too have a base 2008. My first Porsche and I love it. I chose it because it was that perfect balance of not being too electronic, and still having a bit of rawness about it. Flat 6, manual, basic interior, but still having all the creature comforts you need. It was and still is perfect for me.
I had a 06 boxster 2.7 and loved it. Thought I needed more speed so I got a 07 cayman S. Did all the mods. Was very quick on the track. Even faster than the C6Z06 that I had. I thought the 2.7 was better. Sold the 07 for a truck. Just got an 05 boxster 2.7. It's so good.
Nice one Klaus and Max. Couldn't agree with you more with regard to keeping the car stock. The steering wheel however is an exception. Many owners put a cover on, or indeed upgrade it. You need a chunkier feel to steering. Either way, it's a great clip on a brilliant car.
I kept all my original parts when I changed my suspension etc.. So I can always return it back to the way it was. Don't wrestle with yourself Just do it Max!! :-)
Hi Tom, I prefer driving with PASM off as our streets in germany became pretty bad in the last couple of years. Once on the autobahn or on good curvy streets I switch the PASM on. The suspension gets much harder and you feel every part of the street. The suspension in generall is a bit softer compared to the one in the 982 GT4. Nice tool to play with. I already have my second set of dampers in the car as they had been leaking after 8 years. Porsche Approved took care of it.
Pasm is always on. When I push that button on my 9114s it goes into a Pasm sport mode. It is best to leave in default mode as the car senses when you can get aggressive and adjusts the suspension. I am thinking of getting a 2012 Cayman base but the torque looks very low but it should be a fun handler through country roads. I have I almost double that on my tuned S4.
Hi man, I am planning to buy 2006-2008 Cayman or cayman s (Europe), ı can really use some advices if you have time. First of all I am inclined to automatic transmission but not decided, how good auto transmission for those years?
@Kaan - If you want an auto then sure the Tiptronic works. The PDK is favoured for the quicker shifts, but that’s not to say the Tiptronic isn’t good. I have not driven a Tiptronic and some people say it doesn’t shift at the same time as the PDK when gunning it. Remember the best Cayman is the one you can afford👍🏼
Hi Klaus, what du you think about the value of the 987.1 in Germany? Maybe some pointers for me to find one for me? Prices seembto be much higher than in the UK or States. Basically it's not possible to find one with only Porsche History at a fair price of around 15-20K. They all are above 22-28K. Would love some input on the market and how I could argument to a seller to sell his beloved Cayman for 5-10K less :).
Hi MGdrive, hard to say. As the market is down anyways I think you should maybe wait a couple of month further. Maybe the prices drop even more. I am not a car expert but what I know from my 987 the price will not drop that much further....maybe 1000-2000 Euros....but I guess it´s going to be stable if I will not spool up another 100k km on the clock. I heard that the 987.1 Cayman generation was recently mentioned in two german car magazins in regard to become a good historic car for the future. We will see in the future. In my opinion you should always buy a Porsche with a Porsche approved warranty.....so you can play the ball to the dealer/seller. Keep me updatetd, always exciting to buy a new car. Klaus
It holds a lot of weight when an owner of a gt4CS still holds the 987 in high regard . Just goes to show , any cayman is a good cayman 👍🏼

Hi Stephen, totally agree.
still own my 06 cayman s 26000 miles. the car is very smooth even well above 100mph
Lovely car Klaus, thanks for sharing, its great in white.
@Max my view on mods is keep them OEM, like Josh’s GT bucket seats and GTS bumper

Hi, I can only talk of germany. Porsche germany changed it from 10 years to max. 15 years now.
www.porschereading.co.uk/owner-services/porsche-warranty-assistance
This is a Porsch-e-, don‘t forget the „e“
As a german native speaker he should know to spell Porsche with the "e" at the end. I wonder why he don't.
