    The 987 is a future classic. Even Porsche tried to move away from the mistake they made of building a car that is too close to the 911 and many believe handles better. Like a go-cart and as much fun and also wont leave you in a hedge like the 911.

    I've had my 1986 Porsche 930 Turbo since 1994 which I used as my daily driver virtually all of that time. I purchased a 2006 Porsche Cayman S (w/ manual transmission) about a year ago which I then exchanged as my daily driver.
    Your video contributed to my purchasing decision a year ago.
    I could (not would!) basically buy any car I wanted and I never considered buying a Cayman for one moment, ever! Until I did. Then I drove one. A seller in San Diego gave me his for 3 days without even looking at my license! That car impressed me. Everything else I was about to pull the trigger on (Mercedes AMG SL55's, Porsche 911's) took a backseat.
    After one year of putting the Cayman through my ownership tests (which are not for the unskilled, stupid or faint-hearted) I would agree with your overall assessment and each of the "Ten Reasons", 100%.
    I have been very satisfied with my buying decision! There is no substitute.

    It's funny how people have bagged on the Cayman for years, then all of a sudden recognize it's a great car. Fact is the 911 RSR is the Racing version of the Cayman. And really the only Porsche that is true to its roots.

    Hard to not get poetic when describing the 987. Believe me, I seen many cars in my lifetime be cheap and a decade later become collectors items despite their flaws. One more thing I would like to add is that if you join PCA and become active in your regional events, you will meet the coolest people!

    I'm started this journey wanting a 981, then a 987.2 after watching the everyday driver, but I think a 987.1 would be an awesome entry into Porsche.

      Stay away from the 987.1 especially the S models. Those motors are prone to bore scoring which leads to oil consumption and a bunch of other issues. Go with a 987.2 instead.

      Congrats, and welcome to the club! Picked up my 987.2 back in 2015. I was considering selling it to buy a 991, but I couldn't bring myself to part with a car as great/rare as the Cayman, so I picked up a 996 turbo.. Problem solved, need for more power achieved. They are both amazing in their own ways.

      @Lovricc c Ironically, I've only driven 996s (C2, C4S, and TT) and 991s (991.1 and 991.2). At some point, I'd like to taste some of the 997 flavors. I'm sure many would say 997s are the last "true" and fun 911s. I found 991s to be a bit artificial, and albeit great cars, they get boring pretty quick.. especially with PDK.

    Thank you for mentioning the beautiful look of the Cayman. It isn’t talked about enough. The 987 rear deck lid itself sets it apart from all of the other the 911s, 981s, and why I plant my flag here. The fact that it is affordable, is simply nuts. I owned a 2008 S. Brilliant car. I now own an even rarer 2011 S. Both 6 speed, both black on black. No slight to the first generation AT ALL, but trust me, they aren’t the same car. The second generation is EVEN BETTER. The fact that it will, AT THE VERY LEAST, hold it’s value is icing. They’re hard too find and the secret is out. Be careful out there!

    I don’t think I’d ever want a car other than a
    porsche, but although I worked on lots of cars, by the time I could afford one, too much has changed. Drove my 2003 Boxster to 125,000 miles and my current 2016 Boxster is great fun and plan to keep it another 10 years, and I’m down to one car, as I’d drive my Mini 1/2 the time to keep my miles down, but now my commute is down to 11 miles each way v. 40. Just afraid ICE’s will disappear, and in that case, might buy 1 more if that appears to be inevitable.

    I bought my first 987.1S in 2019, superhappy with it. The balance is terrific and the response on the downshifts with the manual gearbox is so much fun. Driven the car 50.000 km since April 2019 to January 2021. Highly recommend the 987.1S. Great machine, very all-round and very generous luggage-space. Used the car for raodtrips, daily commuting, and track-use. As long as one maintain it often and after each track-use, it will keep up with your temper. :)

    Agree with pretty much everything you said-in fact I had this EXACT same car, down to the wheels, only in white. Sold it because I had many issues with it. I disagree about the rarity of these cars, especially the 987.1 models-they are all over the place and can be had for fairly cheap. The 987.2 models are the coveted models because of the no IMS bearing issue. That issue alone will ALWAYS make them more valuable than the 987.1 models, and their current prices relative to the 987.1s reflect that. I now own a 981 S with PSE and I have to say, it’s a MUCH more refined ride than my old 987.1 and the sound is AWESOME. Better gearbox and the sport suspension is sublime. Also MUCH better brakes. And the car weighs the same as the 987 series. The 987s are great cars, though. I just prefer the 981s.

      @512TXSDIY 3 роки тому +1

      @@thedudeabides1443 981’s are nice too. Your problems listed are general maintenance items aren’t they? It’s also much cheaper if you’re doing the work yourself and can save thousands. 07 is the first year of the reinforced IMS for 987.1 and I prefer the base model.

    • @thedudeabides1443
      @thedudeabides1443 3 роки тому +2

      @@512TXSDIY No, not maintenance problems--maintenance are things like oil, brakes, belts, etc. These were areas of failure. And yes, it IS cheaper to own a Porsche if you do the work yourself but surprisingly, the costliest area (at least for me) was the parts, not necessarily the labor. Porsche parts are typically 2-3 TIMES the cost of a "normal car", sometimes higher. Bottom line, they are very expensive cars to own and maintain, especially the older once, whether you do the work yourself or not.
