I have had the S22 and S15 for a few years and find them brilliant in classic 'British' weather when it can be damp, windy and grim. Simple, Freestanding and quick to set up... Condensation on short trips seems very negligable and a few of my friends to whom I recommended buying these tents concur. If you are using it for the TDMB I would posiibly also be concerned about the potential airflow issues..I have a lot of tents .Stratospire, SMD Lunar, X-mid, Hexpeaks, Big Sky, Kuiu,TN,and a few more but the last times I headed to Alps or Greater Ranges I was thankful of dual entrances for airflow and have used both the x-mid and more burly Stratospire and found them great and the hexpeaks prior to that. I guess the S22 would also be better for that with the 2 vestibules. I guess it depends on the forecasted overnight temperatures, weather conditions and what altitude you are camping at. . It may well work very well?
You have definately bought a brilliant tent though; and if you want to get an extra half season out of your S15, Lightwave do the same pole length for another one of their tents but instead of being 8.9mm they are 9.5 and It makes a big difference. For my S22 this wasnt an option but bought another set of poles of same diameter but 20mm shorter to sit in the inner pole grommets creating a much more resistant double poled tent.. Also an extra pegging point added to the silnylon vestibule fly is a good idea.
I remember seeing your review on the Kuiu Storm Star and bought one off the back of that....Brilliant tent for the worst conditions and not too heavy! It is my new favourite 4 season tent....

Thanks Anthony, great information. Question is, with a mixed forecast say hot and cold for the TMB, what would you take? At this time I am leaning towards a Lanshan 1, or Scarp 1.

@@Fellmandave1 Hi Dave, I was also conscious of weight when last in Alps last August so x-mid worked well but there was hot weather but no winds. If it was looking more inclement I would probably hedge towards the Scarp but if the temperatures at night drop enough and you are at a high altitude then perhaps the S15 would be amazing...I always generally take a call at the last minute but guess in the end you can always add in variables yourself that realate to pitch choice, altitude or even stay in a hut:) Sounds like whatever the choice it will be a great trip..

Excellent, how have you found it warm weather?, I think the S22 would probably be better for me.

      @xjessukx 5 місяців тому +1

@Fellmandave1 it can be a bit warm being dark colours, but if you're pitching later in the day, it shouldn't be bad, and if you're not going to be bothered by migies you could always leave the door open

Interesting. And yeh I have sat there thinking, "Will I put in that ebay offer" on a tent, but have held back fearing a salty reply. I have a 20 year old Lightwave Zr0 from 2004, when they first setup I believe. The extra space inside without an inner is just something to behold. I would be nervous about putting a pole through that oh so expensive x tech pole sleeve. Pls did you feel the fabric was relatively vulnerable to pole tearing compared to 30D silnylon? Thanks for posting. JMO

The sleeve felt OK actually. My biggest concern is lack of ventilation!

Where did you manage to buy it? I have been trying to find the Sigma s10 for 2 years, but no one has it. And no one responds on the page.

I got it new from Ebay. I am think of moving it on if you are interested. Just pitched in the garden for this video. Not sure if it's for me as I need more space for the dog, but fine for solo plus kit. If interested you can message me on insta. Link in description. I'm easy either way as I should really try it properly!

I did the Welsh Coastal Path using this tent last year. The claims made about the material and its anti condensation properties are very exaggerated and the durability of the materials is poor. The seams on the reinforced corner pitching points pulled away from the tent, letting water in and the stitching on the material that holds the top cross brace pole straps, partially failed.
I would not class this as a 4 season tent.

Just what I wanted to hear, not. But thanks for the harsh reality of experience.

I should add this was very much a torture test for the tent. Being used almost every night for 6wks in some very damp conditions. In its favour, I would say it stood up well to some strong winds. For someone wanting it for the odd few nights wild camping will be fine, but I wouldn't want to rely on it for an extended hike, and definitely take a tarp to cover it when very heavy rain is expected, the material 'wets out' very quickly.

I did purchase both the Sigma S10 and S20 prior to Covid so for at least 4 years now. The reason for buying S10 small footpath, cross frame, stand alone, easy pitch, outer tent first, lightweight, 3+/4 season tent. I am 168 cms tall. I did encounter one severe storm and heavy rain with the S20. It did hold extremely well, the site drains had trouble with waters running under my ground sheet and the waterproofing held very well. The DAC cross frame for both tents performed exceptionally well in force 6 and 7 winds. The tents holds very well. Easy to pitch with just 2 pegs when no winds are expected. Condensation works fine on most instances but not always - but then my friend's Hilleburg does not perform any better. All in all l am more inclined to purchase lightweight tents for long distance trails while my friend is more inclined to mountaineering.

Had a quick look on their website, 5 season?

Can't see that Paul, what do you define as the 5th season though?

Their arctic 2 man tent, says 5 season, the only thing i could possibly think is proper arctic temps, but being a proper novice camper its only my guess.

Oh yes, I have often looked at that one. A bit like the Hilleberg Kaitum.

Not the first time I've heard it said, but first time I've seen it as part of a description

I don’t think a “breathable” when exterior is wet or the humidity is high fabric exists. Watched a video on another channel testing this out and once the fabric has got wet enough or water vapour in the air is dense enough the breathability starts to fail, this was regarding clothing but it’s probably a similar story for tent fabrics as well.
Isn’t it strange everyone has inaccurate tape measures apart from tent manufacturers, this is quite scandalous really and manufacturers need to be pulled up on it.
That looks more than cosy with Honey and yourself squeezed in that tent.
I will be very interested to see how this tent performs condensation wise, would be great if it works but I’m sceptical.
