Thank you so much for putting this video together and sharing your information, lve just bought a landrover discovery 2,TD5,lm new to landrovers but l must say l love this vehicle even if it has issues, anyway thanks again regards Roy from Australia 👍👍👍
I didnt know that, i really have no idea if the sealer I used contained acetone but I made this repair over 2 years ago and the land rover in question is now owned by my brother an still runs great.
Just done mine today, fairly straight forward, just had a few issues getting the new rocker gasket to sit correctly. I'm in Durham, know of any good lanes to try out like? Cheers!
Yeah slayley forest is a nice easy one to start with. Theres a few lanes around that general area, and it's all relatively easy going or at least it always used to be...
It's down to poor design, the connector points straight down as it leaves the valve cover, the oil actually tracks down the inside of the wiring insulation. It takes literally years to happen, but it does. Landrover added a seal in an attempt to prevent it but they only succeeded in slowing it down. There are aftermarket versions that are labelled as improved or upgraded, but it took so long for it to happen in the first place I'm not sure that would be necessary.
Be careful what sealers you use on the ecu as some bath type silicone gives off a vapour when setting that can eat way copper components there are electrical type silicone from R/S
Hey my td5 has just developed what I think is a miss fire when it’s under load at about 2000rpm there is an Instant loss in power it’s worse up hill I tried the waste gate but it is nice and free just wondering if this is the same symptoms as what you had I’m from castle side you’ve probably saw me driving about an orange disco 2 hope to hear back soon :)
Hi, I have had similar symptoms before, but it wasnt this, it was the in tank fuel pump. The fuel pumps on the discovery 2 are notoriously noisy, will be worth having a listen, to see if you can hear the in tank fuel pump running. Sometimes when the fuel pump goes the rest of the system is still sealed well enough to stop the fuel siphoning back, and allowing the vehicle to run at idle and low revs, but cannot deliver any power at higher revs.
John Twist that makes sense there is a loud whine when accelerating and as soon as you let off the whine stops I always thought it was a bearing in the rear diff but this makes more sense if you say it’s noisy it was idoling a little rough so feared timing issues
Im just down in prudhoe ha ha i am just debating weather to buy a TD5 there seems a lot of things to go wrong by the looks of things ut quite easy to fix within reasonlol
+brushrescue1701 they ate pretty straight forward to work on... but I would highly recommend buying relevent diagnostistic for the ABS system. The 3 amigos can be a pain.

Also the opening line was fucking comedy genius
Brilliant info mate, mine has just had similar symptoms.... Believe it or not on allensford bridge!!! We are obviously quite local to each other..
so funny to see you driving on the 'wrong' side of the road, nothing scarier than watching you driving that way :)
+Common Man Cocktails hahaha. I had the same problem when in a taxi in the US. Uterly terrifying.
i agree did look strange
Good video. May have to a go on mine.
Did the sealant you used have acetone in it? This can corrode the connections in the ECU apparently.

Hi your right I just left a note to point this out R/S sell the correct sealer
For anyone doing this, make sure you take the bottom of the ecu off as well. It'll bee way more oil bound than the top.
Well done in the vlog mate knew you could do it

Sorry how does a harness inside a valve cover cause oil to creep to the ECU?

Did you solve this issue?
John Twist thanks I’m gonna give it a go within the next couple of day just haven’t had the time is it an easy enough job to do ?
@@chrisfoster9679 yes, it's a very easy job. Shouldn't take more than an hour to change the in tank pump.
Hi where did you get the uprated wiring harness from
I bought if from a seller on ebay.. I cant remember the exact brand, but it was less than £50.00GBP.
@@johntwist08 thanks
