  • This is a short explanation of what I did to resolve a bad start, no power, no throttle response issue on my Discovery td5 after a head gasket replacement.
    In this video I address all the possibilities that could cause a bad start situation on a Land Rover td5

    Excellent work. Your persistence paid off handsomely and now you've got yourself an excellent car probably for a bargain price.

    Hi, I have been looking for a video that shows many things that cause the problematic starting, I have done EVERYTHING apart from the head gasket and timing check as I hoped professionals would get that right, but I am going to have a look at mine at the weekend. Thank you very much!!

    They do a timing pin kit for the TD5, take away the guesswork, but well done for manaing without it!

      Thank you! That is good to know about the timing kit because I was totally clueless.

      Drill bits are great for this job, if I bought the special tools for every vehicle I see through my shop I'd be broke.

    Hi mate thanks for your great video you are a Legend 💪🫡,
    Wanna ask you , my td5 it takes few seconds to take off when I stop at the traffic light and I need to give my paddle down more to let it go then back to normal only when I stop to zero and need to move this happens , dose that mean my timing is out ? Fuel injector harness loom changed and fuel pressure regulator changed and I add in it some silicon to stop oil passing through harness loom to ECU , no more oil, but it keeps same ?
    What do you think?
    Cheers
    Matt

    yes the wires are on that MAF sensor from front to back battery voltage, then the voltage from the sensor normally about 1.95 volts and increases on revs as the flow of air increases, then the earth
    It's basically 2 heated resistors which give a tap off in the middle wire

    my first guess would have been a bad Crank Position Sensor (if they are used on a diesel ?)

    • @BroughBuilt
      @BroughBuilt  3 роки тому

      You are 100% correct. It could very easily been a bad crank position sensor. I have found (if not picked up by an OBD scanner) the rev counter stay completely still when cranking if there's a bad sensor.

    mooi video ek is amper besig om n TD5 te koop hy wil net in limp mode ry? enige voorstelle?

    • @BroughBuilt
      @BroughBuilt  3 роки тому

      Die beste wat ek kan voor stel is om hom op n "diagnostic" te kry. Daars klomp redes hoekom hy in limp mode kan gaan maar ek het al gevind dis meeste van die tyd nie iets ernstig nie. Ergste is dalk n turbo en dis deesdae nie so duur om te recon nie. Is hy manual of auto?

    Hello! .... I have a similar problem with a Defender TD5. Is it possible to adjust the chain without removing the front engine cover? Thanks.

    • @BroughBuilt
      @BroughBuilt  4 роки тому

      Hi there. Yes you should be able to adjust the chain timing by only removing the tappet cover. As long as you can reach the cam sprocket...

      The previous owner replaced the head gasket after overheating caused from a burst water pipe

  • @blackhat400
    @blackhat400 4 роки тому

    How did this happen, someone did a head gasket and never timed it proper ,?

    • @BroughBuilt
      @BroughBuilt  4 роки тому +3

      Yes. The previous owner sold me the car in that condition after they did a head gasket replace on the car. They must've removed the cam sprocket to drop the chain for the head removal.
