About KoF's Maxima, his name and backstory are definitely references to this game, but his design is taken from the fighting game The Fallen Angels, by Psikyo.
I knew that and it's one of the many reasons why I so LOVE KOF 2000 & its Strikers' SNK gaming history cameos.
Did you know that G Mantle is also a striker in KOF '00 & used to be SNK's mascot for Neo Geo back when this game came out, only to be replaced by the very up and coming blonde fighting legend he drove to the first unofficial KOF event in the upcoming next game in this series (NGH033)!?
This channel is a like a nice combination of both Game Sack and Jeremy Parish, while covering games that neither of them do. I can imagine myself falling asleep to these videos. Great stuff!

To be honest i really didn't believe at first that this would go as far as the first Fatal Fury with this level of details for each game and would have supposed you would give up way before.

I was able to pickup a MVS copy of Robo Army last year at a great price and I’ve truly come to enjoy the game. The crunchy metallic sound effect whenever your attack connects with an enemy is oddly satisfying to me. But I was not aware of the A+B attack, thanks for sharing that fact!
I know these videos don't get the most views on your channel, bit I hope you don't give up on this series. Not having ever owned or even played a Neo Geo I find these so informative.

I love Robo Army Alec. Me and my brother were always playing Co-Op with it when we were growing up. We first recognized the game at a local Dairy Queen in New Jersey when me and the family were enjoying our Sunday afternoon having lunch. The manager was on his break inserting the game inside of a 4-slot MVS unit and he allowed us to play the game first on his expense for free. We loved it at first play. Which i can go back in time to experience that again. 8^)

And I love how you narrated Hell Jeed! He reminds me of Towelie from South Park; though personally I imagine him sounding more like Ignaceous Mortimer Meen from that one DOS game of the same name: I. M. Meen.
And no one except me apparently brings this up but Kraut Buster pays homage to the intro from Robo Army at parts of it’s own intro!
What should be the coolest feature of all your character can turn into a car. When that Turbo Teen clip played, I was laughing so hard I was crying.
Someone gets it. Others were just freaked out.
They “don’t use that D button” because most arcades still only had machines with 2 button and 3 button panels in 1990~1991. (JAMMA standard was 3 buttons.)
As you undoubtedly noticed with your chronological journey, most early NG games did not use the D button at all, or minor actions which were not essential to finishing the game. This was to ensure as many cabinets as possible would be able to host a MVS. This consideration all changed with the fighting game boom.
Yes, I believe this was the case, although not SNK's official position. It's annoying for people who just bought a console with 4 buttons.
the mvs dont comply with the jamma standart of 3 buttons, after the boom of street fighter and its 6 button layout cabinets grew and grew, i have seen xbox cabinets with 13 buttons

That's from an old 80s Saturday morning cartoon called Turbo Teen. I think the change to and from a car was based on him getting to hot or something. I was really little when this aired, and it wasn't my favorite show or anything. It was probably on between two other shows I wanted to watch and I just left the TV on or something like that.
There was a model kit of him, but it was just a GoBots model kit with the robot head swapped out with a human one.
This wasn't a very popular show, and is only remembered because of its weird premise.

Really enjoyed the power metal section. I've never played this game before, but I can see it definitely has cyber balls.

Anyway this game is fun, but Mutation Nation is the better game, its just more polished overall.
Love this brawler - the style, the atmosphere and variety is great and a typical „old“ Neo Geo game.

21:07 Fatal Fury. So far, my favorite fighting game for the Neo Geo; I've 1 Credit Cleared it on Hard. Even uploaded that playthrough here on UA-cam, if you need to see how that game works.
Same here about the hard mode 1CC. I'll take a look. I have a long history with the game. Maybe it's just me, but I feel that the moves require MK-like directional taps rather than the more traditional sliding inputs.
@@BasementBrothers Nice. A lot of people have a problem with Fatal Fury 1; they can't figure out it's about timing a single attack to hit, as opposed to the combo system that Street Fighter 2 started.

Pretty sure Maxima here is the same guy that became a regular on KOF, considering Rocky appeared as a striker in KOF 2000
Great video! I love the graphics and style of this game. Unfortunately, the first three levels are also the best levels, after that it deteriorates bit by bit. Still, I like it better than Mutation Nation.

Sadly the Kirby car transformation is cooler and more gameplay changing than the "POWER METAL" buggies in this game.
Yes. Well Kirby has the benefit of 30 extra years of game evolution to draw from.
@@BasementBrothers Indeed he does and the car transformations are still highly inspired and not something you'd find in your typical beltway brawler. Just really under utilized here, like you said.
It would be so much better if the car happened at random points, maybe when you met certain conditions. As it is, it only shows up at certain set points in a few stages.

Just like Ghost Pilots, this review was way better than the actual game. That said, I'd play this game any day over Ghost Pilots, at least.

Idk why but even though the gfx are pretty nice I thibk that everythink feels like cardboard cuts, they are in a 3d environment but feel really thin, maybe it's the way the care behave put this game plays a lil bit weird. I think the 1st Neo Geo games had a strange feel, I do like Sengoku and Mutation Nation, but much like 8-Man and Magician Lord u don't really get that nice hit feeling when you attack.

This series takes most of my free time to make, and these jokes are the parts I usually enjoy the most. In my head that's what Dr. Fron Jeed sounds like. I'm sorry, but that's just what his voice sounds like. If a few seconds here and there of my enjoyment ruin the whole video for you, well, you don't have to finish the video.
