    The reason why producers don't want to share their samples has a lot to do with the evolution of Hip-Hop production. In the beginning there were only DJs. The DJ is the cornerstone of Hip-Hop, and what gave you an edge was finding rare drum breaks that no one else had, and for that reason DJs did not want other DJs to know what records they were playing. When sampling came into the picture, it was those very same DJs now making the beats, instead of manually looping a track on wax they could now sample, but the same DJ rules of not telling still applied. Then when sampling started to become costly, for copyright reasons, producer would try to hide the sample so as not to get sued for infringement. So sample secrecy was baked into the culture from the beginning.

    Awesome sample.

    Love the pacing, explanation, sample chopping snippet , hard cut out of shot when you played your Symphony, and the thank you conclusion scene.
    Cheers

    Would love to see some videos on the 2000XL, I’d like to understand it’s rol in your chain and workflow when making beats. Hopefully we get to see your content more often in the platform. ✌️

    I get the reasons why people didn’t reveal who and what they sample. It was their “secret sauce” where they pulled inspiration from and they didn’t want to share it. It’s all gives the rights holder info on who to sue.

    It's dope to share your own sample sources if you wish. I love sample breakdown videos like this. I've even made a couple. It's all good if you're not releasing the beat for profit. However sample snitching on someone else is a no no. (It can literally result in court cases 😮)

    In the old days us producers used to never share samples. It’s the same in djing. If you have a record that people aren’t on, you cover that label. Then it’s up to the djs or beat makers to go find that on their own. It was just an unwritten rule. There were others like not sampling obvious samples that’s been done before etc. Diddy broke that rule and folks hated him. I understand you might be younger but us old folks still abide by some of those rules. It’s a generational difference I guess. Another big reason for not sharing your samples is for clearance purpose. Those are for the big names that actually have records on radio or tv and didn’t clear their samples. There was an unspoken ethic back then. When technology afforded everyone to become a producer or dj, those rules went out the window. But as someone from that era, I do get annoyed when some random kid ask “what sample is that?” To me, I want them to dig and come up with their own findings as they search for that sample they want to know. These days is easier so I just don’t want folks wanting a hand out. Shazam it or google…so many resource to be lazy and just want to be spoon fed.

      Thanks for sharing. I am unaware of this backstory and i can see how some people might not like sharing. I know the amount of hours and energy that go into digging to find one good loop so i definitely see your point.

      Check out this book “Making Beats - The art of sample based hip hop music” by Joseph Schloss. It’s written as his dissertation so it get wordy at times, but it’s a good insight on how the sample based, hip hop beat making culture was before technology made everyone into a “producer.” But on that note, love your channel and your beats.

      @AmazingJayB51 at one point clearance didn't matter.. then the notion became law...not the actual law but te subculture law.

    Just beautiful. Newbie question: For a beginner wanting to get into sample based music (I'm not a musician, so I will be 100% sample based), what MPC do you recommend: MPC One +, X, or Live II. Thank you.

    • @sumitosway
      @sumitosway  8 місяців тому +1

      Thank you 🙏🏽 and i think the live 2 is the best mpc for beginners and even some veterans if that’s the route you are going. Best of luck to you
