Layers is key for so many reasons. You'll get hot and sweaty moving, then will cool down fast when sitting.
For any outdoor adventure I always have a spare pair of car socks and shoes waiting. It's unbelievably nice to come back after an outing and have good footwear waiting.
    Thanks for all the tips!

Very true DC. In the winter I will normally stay layered up until I get to camp, (Part 2 of this vide you'll see me in just my thermal layer) but in spring and autumn I'll layer up and down several times on a trail.

I was a telephone repairman in New England working outdoors cold warm snow or rain, and I thought I was a layering expert, but I still learned some things here. Thanks!
I would wear a tight first layer, a t shirt, a sweatshirt with a hood , a fleece pullover, and an outer layer that was wind blocking. This was good down to bitter cold/windy conditions working aloft. Flannel lined jeans. Safety concerns were less important because I could always warm up in the truck if needed.

I know what you mean about being able to go to the truck and warm up. I've done presentations to scout troops and always remind them that backpacking in snow is very different from a day skiing/snowboarding in snow. In the latter, the car is in the parking lot a the bottom of the hill. In the former, the car is several miles down the trail. :) Stay warm!

There's rain.. but then there's moisture. Someone was trying to tell me that other areas get more rainfall. Which I get.. but it's the moisture here that can make things suck. Thanks for the video brother

Yeah, you can be hiking for an hour and while it's not raining, you're walking through heavy mist and soaked.

@@EatCarbs For that you need a jacket with zippered openings under the arm pits. :)

Hiking can be tricky at times with what to wear. You start out cold and then end up sweating. Also, when were you in the navy? I only signed up for two years. I was in San Diego in 93-94. 👍

That's the key to layering and having a jacket with zippered openings under the arms to vent out the sweat. :) I was in 85-89 on the USS Kitty Hawk out of Sand Dog and then the USS Santa Barbara out of Charleston.
