  • I have read online that there are old growth trees tucked away in West Seattle. An area that has been settled since 1851. I had my doubts. Join me as I go in search of these remarkable trees. :)

Those west coast forests are something else. So lush. Love it.

Lush is right and it's all because of the rain. :)

Magnificent trees that you probably won't find anywhere else here in Europe. You introduced her very impressively. It makes me a little surprised that they were rescued by a German couple. Your video is very empathetic and you can really feel your joy in being out and about in this nature. I would like to take this opportunity to recommend one of my favorite books, which is also available in English: The Hidden Life of Trees: What They Feel, How They Communicate by Peter Wohlleben. Really a whole new look at the trees and nature. Greetings from Germany, Bernie🙂

Bernd, thank you! We have a large number of northern Europeans that have made the Pacific Northwest their home. English, Danes, Swedes, Norwegians and yes, a lot of Deutschlanders. Mostly they came over in the late 1800s and early 1900s. One of our main hospitals is the Swedish Hospital which was started by Swedish nurses and doctors. As for the books by Peter Wohlleben, I have three of his books, The Inner Life of Animals, The Secret Wisdom of Nature and of course, The Hidden Life of Trees. :) His work inspires much of love of nature.

There are some still in Maltby as well.

Is there a trail in Maltby that takes you by them?

Yes. Kind of. Look up Horse country of off Highway 9. 187th street. There are lots of trails there. I think UW owns the woods. But if you walk straight in and get off the trail. There are a few old growth trees there. The kind you described that takes 5 or more people arm to at to wrap around.
