@@SugaBabieT I've been on this journey since 2009, and my hair has definitely changed over the years. No hair is alike. I don't care how many videos are out there. No one has the same type of hair. When you get to my age, you thank God you have hair. I know my hair very well, and when I say it takes a long time to wash, condition or deep condition and put on more than one product to style, it takes me a good length of time. Thanks for trying to help.

The comment about having to do your hair 24 hours before an event and having to plan an hour to take it down!!! This is one of the reasons I need for people to give me advance notice that they want to go somewhere.

Girl, I wish 24hours worked for me. In the summer, I can sit under the dryer to speed up the drying process. If I sit under the dryer in the winter, my hair and scalp will be dry and itchy. Nobody told me I would need two days advanced notice before an event in the colder months because it would take two days for my hair to dry. :-)

This was a great video, I laughed all the way through it. Especially the young lady who said she left home looking like Dianna Ross and came back home looking like Samuel L. Jackson. I did not get my 1st relaxer until I was in my late 20's, now I am much older and I don't remember doing an eighth of the stuff I have do to my natural hair now. Back then I would shampoo, condition, put it in plaits (not braids, go to sleep take it down the next day and go about my business (grant it, it would be still damp but that didn't matter, it still looked good). I do not like wearing my hair out in the summer because of the humidity. If a wash n go fine but a twist-out nope. Definitely have to switch up routines when the seasons change. I mixed do different diy butter creams for my hair. One my aloe vera and shea butter in the summer. Much lighter for the summer. Fall/winter and spring i can still use my thicker butter cream mix but use it sparingly for the spring. Lol I love my diys. I make enough shampoo, deep conditioner, leave-in and butter cream for at least 2 to 3 months. My hair takes 2 days to dry. Yassss 90% of the time you're detangling. That why I protective style every 2-3 weeks now. Rarely have my hair out. Unless it's straight.

I watched a video yesterday a hair stylist was putting two strand twists into her clients head. Two things stood out to me. 1. She never picked up a comb to part the hair. She said even she drops the combs and the parts look more natural without using a comb. 2. She said people get upset because their hair experiences shrinkage. But if you don't have some shrinkage then it's because you have heat damage. I was like "Ohhhhh!" I won't lie. I have washed my hair that was stretched out at bra strap length. But after washing it I looked in the mirror and it was above my shoulders. I have said out loud to my hair:" You have the audacity to shrink up on me like this? The nerve of you!" Now I don't know if the shrinkage versus heat damage thing is true or not. I just know that I had never heard it before. And it made me feel better about my hair. I was straight up wondering (for years) what was wrong with my hair or what I was doing wrong? So a part of me hopes what she said was true. Nobody told me just how real shrinkage is out here in these natural hair streets.

It’s the long dry time for me. I’m predominantly type 4 and I have perfected the wash and go for me the drying time is long and grueling. I have to hop under a dryer for 30 minutes and then diffuse for another he plus. It takes more time to dry than do my hair😫

Nobody told me I didn’t have to chase definition and could just chill and wear afros and puffs. Nobody told me you can wear your hair stretched without heat and not seek definition. Nobody told me you could just use the same two products forever and your hair will be fine. Nobody told me water makes your hair more malleable BUT more fragile and sometimes it better to detangle dry. Nobody told me drowning your hair with oil right before you wash it is counterproductive. Nobody told me the cup porosity test is not scientific and is very flawed. Nobody told me you could have a full hairline and have NO baby hairs.

Okay, but WHY didn't NOBODY TELL ME that you gotta get up like 4 hours before you go somewhere to account for taking your hair down and the possibility of it not being dry?

I just went natural for the first time since I was 16 (I'm 35 now) back in October. Besides dealing with dryness (which I solved), I don't really have a problem with my hair. I think it's easier to do/maintain than my relaxed hair 🤷🏾‍♀️. Plus it's sooo freeing since I don't have to fear water. I'm curious how it will be in the humidity this summer though. I mainly just wear it in an afro, so I guess summer won't be bad either.

Nae, I live in Hawaii (military spouse). Baaaabby! As much as I LOVE island life, I find that I can't FULLY enjoy it. Girl evening THINKING about going to the pool or beach is like 🥴😖😵. Ain't no spontaneity whatsoever. I gotta make sure my style is old enough to risk destroying and make sure I am ready to commit to a wash day immediately after 😤 - that's with or without a swim cap. And let's not even talk about trying to workout consistently. I know veteran naturals do it. But for us in the "thick of it," establishing a new workout routine... just embrace the frizz sis cause you will be puffy in the roots boo.
