Dear vogue, we don't want to see people applying skincare on top of their foundation.they have like almost everything done and turn off the filters please.we need transparency, otherwise want's the point of these videos.we are not dumb.
isn't it just! i thought she looked beautiful with the hair I've seen her with on tv and movies but her natural hair is just so much prettier AND its who SHE is. i feel so bad that so many different people have been made to suppress their culture and natural beauty, I'm glad she was able to show us her beauty in all of its glory!
This is beautiful, y’all. I also starting crying because I too have curly hair and learning to love my hair after straightening it for YEARS has been a truly intense but fulfilling experience. Us curlies gotta stick together!
I have no idea if this is weird to say to strangers on UA-cam comments but imma say it anyway 😂 I’m so proud of y’all for not letting society erase and suppress your natural beauty. My aunts recently embraced their natural hair and it was so empowering to see. I was once embarrassed about my Jamaican heritage but, especially over the past few months with BLM, I have become so proud of my heritage and I really hope that this movement will truly change the world for good so black people and all ethnic minorities can flourish and be their true, authentic selves. BLACK IS BEAUTIFUL!
Why is nobody talking about Kat? Talk about her! She literally just cried in front of camera because of the struggles she's had with her natural hair, and loving and accepting it. This is her first vid like this and she is the most genuine celebrity I have seen! All of this is so genuine, I came here cuz I saw Kat's face, but now I have such a deeep respect and love for her.
I mean this is the real hair journey for many black girls and women or mixed girls and women. Personally, I was blessed to be raised by my black mom who knew and understood how to do my hair which is 4C curl pattern through time, effort, knowledge, and the legacy of life skills my grandmother passed to her. Even that wasn’t enough just in my immediate family all our hair textures are so different even though we’ve had similar hair struggles. But the pride we have through our hair by loving it, accepting it, growing with it, and working with it is priceless. It’s a everyday process and sometimes you have those bad days where you wrap it put it in a bonnet and call it a day. Lol. I’m glad she showed this side of her, I never thought to think during Vampire Dairies she was using sew ins and wigs (it makes sense) but in my opinion her natural hair is beautiful and makes her look younger.
I don’t think she’s crying over hair, but moreover, identity. To come out and embrace your hair, especially when it’s not accepted in society, is an emotional process. It’s accepting yourself, and it’s saying you don’t care what others say anymore. She’s taking care of herself and her hair; that’s what it’s about.
Lmao hair is not accepted in society😂? Please. It’s 2023. The fact tht privileged Americans cry and whine about hair and call it oppression is baffling to me. Americans are ao out of touch with the rest of the world. While yall are offended because a white person wore braids but called them french braids over box braids, there are people starving and dying. While yall cry because a stranger on the street accidentally used the wrong pronoun, there are children being sold into slavery. People are opressed all over the world. Kat Graham is not one of those people. Get over yourselves.
Black girl hair is soooo emotional. Like... it is NOT a game. I felt her so hard when she was like, "Why am I crying over conditioner?" It's just that way sometimes. If you know, you know. We're a sisterhood, and we feel you. :-)
I’m white and I’ve cried over my curls too. It feels like it will be a lifelong journey to figure them out. And why do we put so much of our self worth into our hair?
Curly Crew Honestly , I’ve found that a lot of white people just don’t know how to deal with curly hair. I bet if you grew up with me (I’m biracial) , you would’ve loved your hair haha.
I'm white and finally, 2 years ago I stopped straightening my hair. Ignore my profile pic haha that was back in 2010 when I straightened every single day. When I stopped straightening, I notice all my defined curls were gone. I was shocked to find how upset this made me. All my life I was told that straight hair is the most beautiful...every girl I knew straightened their hair. After a few months of not straightening my hair and not blow drying it, all my curls returned. I comb it with leave in conditioner after I shower and let it air dry. I love and appreciate my natural curls. All my white friends straighten their curly hair but one. My hair is so much thicker. I live in Florida with extreme humidity. My curly hair loves humidity haha makes it more curly. Embrace your curly hair. Curly hair is beautiful and don't let anyone tell you different!
I really do feel her...with every fiber of my BEING....this pandemic has helped me embrace my curls.....I'm going to a natural centric stylist so that she can cut the rest of this relaxer out of my hair......I cannot WAIT!!!!
when she said “i hope one day i can play a character that i actually look like” that made me so sad. she is so naturally beautiful! she doesn’t deserve to have to change for others, especially something that she can’t control. i love her hair so much. she deserves so much better.
@r0bz ok and u insecure person if that’s what’s makes her happy let her be I know you wouldn’t say this to madison beer who’s had eyebrows lifts lips plums but you still call her natural beauty stop hating on her if this what she likes to do u idiot commenting on every reply.
@r0bz it's really funny that you think you're really doing something with these tremendously ignorant comments. go watch content you actually like and care about ffs

Her actual real hair would have complemented her role in the Vampire Diaries. She has such beautiful hair! She's so pretty naturally! Would love to see her in a role that would respect her natural self! ALSO VAMPIRE DIARIES WOULD HAVE BEEN NOTHING WITHOUT YOU! YOU ARE A STAR!!
@@shacks29 Look at the roles she still to this day is playing and what they require of her. It's easy to sit on here and say someone is wrong when you aren't in their position or have a job like them
the fact that she’s crying as she reminisces about realizing that her natural hair is beautiful just shows how much of an affect black women’s hair in specific has a huge impact on our lives and how the standards of society can really take a toll, ESPECIALLY on black women.. 😞

When she started crying when she spoke about her hair, I FELT THAT. Crying while doing your hair is a different kind of pain. Especially for women who have 4C type hair.
@@queenblessyy her hair is probably 3c just because you could see her true curl pattern when its wet... i know a lot of people who thought the had type 4 hair because they only really paid attention to how it looked in its dry state hahaha
She cried over hair, this is why diversity is important to be showcased on tv and social media, and celebrated. So that lil girls grow up beleiveing that theyre not ugly but beautiful.❤
@Lisa crawford no such thing as “good hair” in the way you’re using it. Healthy hair is good hair. Having looser curls patterns or straight hair does not mean you have good hair.
“The African afro texture is not something that Hollywood has ever really embraced.. So I hope that one day I can play a character that I actually look like..” dang.
Yass girl. I'm black, but I'm also Syrian/Indian. And it's hard enough putting my hair in one. That's why I love having someone cornrowing, plaiting and styling my hair for school/events(But I can also comb my hair but it's really long and have so much body). I was born and am living in Jamaica and it's so hard finding products that are good for my hair type,so I experiment ALOT, all of my siblings have different hair types. My older sisters hair is more afro, and a bit curly(kinda like 3c), she couldn't manage it so she choose to cream it🤣. My mom is Syrian/Chinese so her hair is wavy, have body and really long. Also, guys try onion, coconut oil, eggs and avocado in your hair, it's great and healthy
the worst part is the fact that she felt stupid about crying over her hair becuase thats what society has taught her. This woman does not deserve that. Poor Kat, i wish i could hug her. :( Her hair doesnt make her any less beautiful, i think she is one of the prettiest girls out there. Nothing can change that.
@@hummingbird4129 when you play a character you play someone else you are not playing yourself. I don't think she has to worry about it tho cause she does not get any acting roles anymore 😂

After this video, I did a bit of a dive on her past. She is a super hard working girl. All these mistreatment stories really shocked me. I always thought she was the most beautiful girl on TVD. Really a pity what she had to endure. I don't know if she would ever read this, but we are rooting for you Kat!
Feel like every black woman can relate to this video. Especially when she broke down. It's so much more than hair. It's identity, culture, societal "worth". Very refreshing to see a woman with type 4 hair on Vogue
I think every girl who has curl hair I'm withe but my mom and graph are black But my father and his family is withe So turns that I'm like really with But my hair is curl and it's really difficult deal with the power of this. Because I'm to lasy too
This was one of the realist Vogue episodes in a long time. Her vulnerabilities showed right through the camera lens and the struggle is real especially dealing with natural hair with people of color. Societal norms and especially working in entertainment have white washed the perception of beauty. Kat should know and always know that she is beautiful.
@@thekims6271 Because white dominated cultures invented the modern concepts of race to justify racism, and decriminalize everything preceding the 3 pronged global slave trade. I really empathized with Kat's emotions during: 4:41-5:10 - I don't think those who were not born with highly textured African/Afro-textured hair will really grasp how much hair care is a big deal in the Nubian/Black community internationally. So thank you for highlighting your hair care routine and being vulnerable Kat, much appreciated!😊💫
Her story is TOO familiar. I attended an all-female, historically black college and I, along with so many of my sisters had to go through that same moment... we never had to deal with our natural hair, alone. What a real and relatable, raw moment.
I'm debating on going to hbc or going some place else. I feel I would be viewed as different by my peers. I not that's not the case I just feel like that
Serenityblu23 nope! i’ve lived in a predominantly white neighborhood growing up & once junior high & highschool hit diversity began to increase & i began to hangout with different types of people, including my first all black friend group, it was really nice to have people that looked like ME but i still found it hard to fit in with them & felt like i COULD be myself but NOT myself in a way & felt judged. but, i have the same concerns i really want to go to a hbcu to have that experience, representation, & just be with people that had the same struggles as me but found myself hesitant due to not wanting to be judged :/
r0bz Her eyes are naturally green/hazel so stop lying and she has shown her real hair but always straight and pressed flat never her natural kinky coils. Stop the hate!
Sweet Fee -As much as it pains, don’t keep buying a lot of products. I could open a salon with all of my hair care products (I probably use 10 products right now). Journal your hair care, step by step with the products you use. Try to use the same products, in the same order for a month. I know you’ve heard it a million times, and I am honestly still trying to find the right balance, but water is the most important ingredient to your healthcare. Try to find a UA-camr, with your hair type, porosity, density, and length, to watch. Take care and stay Be-You-Tiful.
@@redglasses33 hi check out Afope Atoyebi's youtube channel. Search her name along with film forming humectants. I too had extremely dry hair for a few years. Afope speaks on what I found out through trial an error - film forming humectants is the way to go. My go to is sea moss jell (a film forming humectant). I melt it in warm water, let it cool and use that as a moisturizer and then seal it in with oil or grease. Hope that helps.
Watching Kat cry brought me to tears, you can really see the pain in her eyes with what she’s had to deal with over the years especially the mistreatment during TVD. Her hair is absolutely beautiful! What an Amazing, strong women inside & out. Wish all the best for her got a lot of love.
I hope this doesn’t offend any black women at all but it makes me angry to see that black women can’t show their beautiful natural hair! It’s so unfair. Black is beautiful. Your features are absolutely gorgeous, your skin is angelic and so so glowingly gorgeous. Your hair is so freaking perfect. Don’t let anyone ever tell you different.
Exactly, i hate when yt's said like "it's just hair." Hair is your crown, it can tell so many stories. Thats why they chopped off native american and korean hair so they would lose themselves.

I always wondered why they put you in these “horrible” wigs on TVD. Sis, Kat, all of us black girls can relate to the depth of the natural hair journey and we appreciate the honesty. I hope you’ll be able to do more roles that allow your natural crown to come through. Glad you’re wearing it with your head up high, Queen. We love you ❤️
OH MY. This is why I ALWAYS say: hair is not just “hair”. I hate that most people minimize the fact that your hair is a big thing, it really matters. When people with a “softer” usually straight texture aka the one everybody want you to believe is the “best one” say that I shouldn’t worry about my hair I just wanna cry cause they don't know the EFFORT it takes for me to accept my natural hair when there’s a whole world telling me that I should change it’s natural way or how I treat it/style it. Quarantine was game changer for me, like everybody, I had to deal with my hair by myself. Since I was 6 my mom straightened my hair EVERY WEEK. Hence why I thought that was my destiny, to keep on straightening it till I die. Which is sad af cause once It gets wet (like every time I went to the beach) I just didn’t know what to do, literally. I've felt SO bad when i see how other girls just "do nothing" and their hair looks “good” while I have to struggle to feel ok, I stopped taking pictures of myself cause of it. And a friend of mine, when I was in high school made a joke about my hair that till this very day I haven't forget. I couldn’t handle it. So 2 months ago I made my mind up and decided that I can grow and rock my natural hair. Saddest part is that my fam don’t agree with it cause they think I’m gonna look “different”. I’m gonna prove them “different” and natural are beautiful as well.
Oh girl, sending you so much love it takes courage to do what you did!! I truly hope that you will learn how to do the right things for you hair and prove them wrong. Keep going!
I feel you! Let´s prove them :) natural hair can be soo beautiful when you take care of it properly. Now I like my natural curls way more better than straight hair ! One thing that changed my life was finger coiling and creams :) I´m wishing you good luck !
good for you!! just keep with it! it’s a long haul to grow out the damage, learn to care for it properly and put effort into it, that it’s easy to just quit and start straightening it again, but who wants to look like everybody else? it’s overrated. I’m sorry you don’t have support! And I think some people don’t realize how long lasting their words can be, because they forget probably just as quickly as they said it but the one it’s directed to carries it with them long after. Just try to rationalize that it was probably more about her own insecurities than anything about you and keep doing you, girl!
You got this despite of what everyone say and your family❤️❤️. Our type of “different” is beautiful and we can’t allow society to tear it down . I whole heartedly feel that you would look beautiful with your curls and I don’t even have to see you, straight hair is sooooo over rated and played out and as long as you know you look beautiful with your natural hair then no one can’t tell you other wise. I give you my support if no one else does ( not that it matters) ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️.
You can almost feel that her hair and her blackness in her career life and personal life was a huge obstacle for her as she grew up. She is so stunning and I love her
It really isn't "just hair", and this is so great to see on such a large platform so that other girls can watch this and find the beauty in their natural hair. The entertainment industry needs to do a better job representing black women in our natural state. Love Kat Graham!
Watching this almost three years later… her testimony still hits hard, she really showed the world the struggles of learning to love your hair as a black/biracial woman❤
@@MixedChick1yes she said it correct as black/biracial woman because being biracial means you are two different ethnicities, for example white and Asian, Mexican and Indian anything. She said Black biracial meaning she is biracial, and her other side is black

I'm really saddened by the fact, that I NEVER knew this is what her hair really looked like. In all of TVD I cannot believe they never showed her real hair even once. It also makes me sad that her mother never tried to educate herself on how to take care of her daughters hair. I'm happy for her that she is embracing her natural hair. To all the interracial parents out there especially those who have biracial kids with a black person please try to learn how to do kinky hair. It is important for your child to grow up learning about their hair. So they won't have to go a lifetime depending on someone else to know how to because at the end of the day those people won't always be around. That part of this video spoke volumes to me. Kinky hair isn't a "societal beauty norm" here in America but it is BEAUTIFUL and if you learn how to take care of it it will in turn flourish. You'll be fine Kat!
if you have a biracial baby with a black person and you can’t handle their hair that should be child neglect. hair is so important to black people and these moms should make an effort to educate their kids on it.
@@CybrV-1 i somewhat understand. I just don't think it's child neglect if parents let other people do their children hair if they know how to. I cried with her. Being “alone” with your natural hair can be overwhelming even for black women who are use to taking care of and managing their own hair, but for someone who has never had to face or deal with it themselves, to do it for the first time and realize you will be ok is very emotional. My ignorance is showing... I had no idea that her hair on TVD wasn't her own. I almost cried with her when she got emotional about never being able to show the hair she was born with.
It’s not ignorance, so many people just never focused on her hair because they were more into the characters and storylines. We have to start being open, understanding and accepting of those who don’t look like us and have empathy because our situations are totally different.

Her crying over her hair brought tears to my eyes. I’m so glad she is loving her natural hair because it’s gorgeous!
isn't it just! i thought she looked beautiful with the hair I've seen her with on tv and movies but her natural hair is just so much prettier AND its who SHE is. i feel so bad that so many different people have been made to suppress their culture and natural beauty, I'm glad she was able to show us her beauty in all of its glory!
My hair has made me cry many times throughout my life. I totally get how she was feeling.😭🤎
Daniel Barnett it’s not weird at all and thank you so much, it means a lot
*"I hope one day I can play a character that I actually look like."* That made me tear up a little

Awwww, bless you. It really was quite moving. 🧡🧡🧡
Meee toooooo. Black girls understand how you can go you entire life not knowing what your hair looks like 😔 because people don’t care to see it
Destiny Ekwueme not me
Why is nobody talking about Kat? Talk about her! She literally just cried in front of camera because of the struggles she's had with her natural hair, and loving and accepting it. This is her first vid like this and she is the most genuine celebrity I have seen! All of this is so genuine, I came here cuz I saw Kat's face, but now I have such a deeep respect and love for her.
I’m so used to calling her Bonnie that for a second I was like who’s Kat😂 but I agree!
you are right
I mean this is the real hair journey for many black girls and women or mixed girls and women.
So true
@@Maria-xu4vd me too
I don’t think she’s crying over hair, but moreover, identity. To come out and embrace your hair, especially when it’s not accepted in society, is an emotional process. It’s accepting yourself, and it’s saying you don’t care what others say anymore. She’s taking care of herself and her hair; that’s what it’s about.
She's completed her circle for self love
It’s def not over hair it’s because she was getting emotional about all the abuse she was facing
Curly Crew
Honestly , I’ve found that a lot of white people just don’t know how to deal with curly hair. I bet if you grew up with me (I’m biracial) , you would’ve loved your hair haha.
Allison M
I would give so much to even have a friend with curls! The white society offers so little support for them!

I’m gonna prove them “different” and natural are beautiful as well.

good for you!! just keep with it! it’s a long haul to grow out the damage, learn to care for it properly and put effort into it, that it’s easy to just quit and start straightening it again, but who wants to look like everybody else? it’s overrated.

Yes they should educate themselves but it's still not child neglect in my eyes. My mom who is black btw would let people do my hair until i grew up and started doing my hair myself.
Latifah Maarbach I get what you’re saying but h they don’t even bother. It should be mandatory. Kats mom didn’t even try.
@@CybrV-1 I understand what you're saying, but black hair isn't a monolith. My mom has a completely different texture and need than mine. Styling? No problem. Care? Not entirely, but didn't kill my hair. Stylists that know what they're doing can give a better idea of what to do and what not to do.
