I got braids professionally done a couple years ago and it was horrible. They were too long, too tight and it took forever for her to finish. I learned how to do them myself and I now I love them!!
Once I worked at this child care facility in a city that has a higher population of African American kids than Caucasian kids and when I would play with the little girls they always asked to braid my hair, and I said yes. I didn’t realize they were doing the really tight braids, and I’ve never got them done before. It hurt so bad I started crying 😂 I don’t know how girls who get tight braids are so strong! They look super pretty, though!

This is the funniest video I’ve watched in a long time. EVERYTHING in this video is accurate.
I’m sorry you’re suffering, but I swear that’s the prettiest braid design I’ve ever seen. Like there are a lot of gorgeous, intricate, artful designs, but in terms of just simple feminine prettiness, this is it. Love it. And I love how there are different sizes (but not like when a bad braider doesn’t know how to keep them uniform). Good job to your stylist.
Got braids for the first time today ad they are so tight and i can already see i aint sleeping tonight but they look so good and its been years since i looked at my self and was 100% like i look soooo cute
Im latina and have gotten braids a few times already and I thought the itch, the no sleep, the weight were all because my hair is a different texture, bit now I c its for everyone. I always saw black people with looong ass braids and was like whoa these girls are amazing! I looove black hairstyles and appreciate them but they do hurt.
I am going through it right now, night 3 and I have turned my tears to laughter with this video. This braid thing is gonna have to be a once in a lifetime experience is how I am feeling
They don't tell you that your hair line can vanish without a trace. Stephen King could write a book about how your hair line can vanish like a ghost never to return. 😂😂
The heaviness of braids depends on the braid. The first time I got box braids , I use some brand I bought from Amazon. This second time I got ez hair by spectre. And these braids are super light. It feels like the weight of my own hair.
You won't be able to take a comfortable shower with long behind braids 😭 They always in my way D: even if I pin it up a lil strand always falls out lol
Lord yes!! I had my hair braided up into a bun and girlllllll went to my sons graduation and I couldn't even enjoy his graduation because my freaking scalp was in so much pain!!!! NEVER AGAIN!!!
TaB BlAcK i got them yesterday and they're nice but so annoying already and my mom would kill me if I removed them so I'll remove them after 3weeks oof
I just got some box braids and you’re so right no sleep last night. I did however apply moist heat, leave in conditioner and gently massaged my scalp and it helped a great deal ...
You are funny! I have taken out braids the next day because they were too tight...got my scalp and face all drawn up... can't be good. I now stress do not braid tight, do not try to catch my edges and baby hairs...
Listen to your sister, she knows what she’s talking about!!! We Salute You!!!!! Love this Chica, she’s real, honest, and I highly respect her argument!!!!!
I'm used to braids I'm just annoyed with my braids right now. My hairstyle is similar to yours right now. My hair fuzzed out already 😫😭 after 2 weeks. My hair can't keep braids unless its the single plaits. Now I look like cornrow gone bad with the lion mane buts it's a sign my hair grows fast. As your hair grows your braids gets heavier 😵 so you're carrying extra weight. The endings start to stick u and you get even annoyed especially when they didn't trim the ish more. You feel relieved when you get your braids done because of the style you want and it's protective but give it a week or 2 and you over it. Keeping braids in too long can cause some ppl to start locking and detangling it can be a nightmare.
😂😂Especially if you are natural..My hair frizzed up around the 2week too..Pissed!! B/c they were so tight so I just new they would last but my hair was like Tuhh You Thought!!
I had neck pain for a week when I just got my braids done, couldn’t get comfortable and sleep. I pinned my hair up and it helped a bit but still. My satin bonnet at the moment is the only thing now making it bearable for me to sleep
I never got box braids before, but when I did.....Gurl.Gurl.Gurl.....the first two weeks..."take me to the king. I don't have much to bring.", was all I was singing.
I got my hair braided like a month ago let’s just say I’m never going to get professionally done again they weren’t as tight like I could sleep and I didn’t have a headache but let’s just say I saw way too many white bulbs at the end of hairs popping out 😩 I still have them in and they are old as hell but I’m pretty sure I don’t have any edges anymore I even told the woman at first she was braiding too tight she laughed and said something in her language I should have got up then smh
I'm right with you, they are cute but I'm never getting them again because they itch real bad and I'm ready to pull them out and they're dumb heavy and definitely always in the way 😩😩
I don't have braids or anything but I can totally feel you on some of the issues you had. I have waist length hair so the toilet thing is a big issue. Also I can get to sleep easy but sometimes I do wake up in the middle of the night with my hair wrapped around my throat. I kinda get the feeling that my hair might be plotting against me lol. Despite it all I wouldn't cut it. I love my hair just like I love your braids. They're so beautiful. I would definitely put up with all that for that kind beautiful hair style.
NicNac's Dream my husband has hair down to his waist. He usually braids it for sleep but when he changes sides at night and flicks the braid I often get it square on my face 😂 I think his hair is plotting to kill me 😁
Thanks for speaking the truth. I am glade that you are telling the truth. I am cracking up because everything that you are talking about. I thought it was me. I wanted to go back stylist to asked her why in the heck she did not tell me the things that you were experiencing.
😂😂 I can relate to the sleep deprivation, the tightness and pain. It's so annoying, I hated it so much. I had to get a haircut. It's so exhausting. I'm planning to learn to do my hair myself.
I completely agree! I just got box braids for the first time and it has been a struggle already. Like I miss being able to put my hair in a bun to go to sleep comfortably on my side. I miss feeling lightweight hair! I called my mom and I said "look here, Imma keep these in for another week and a half, get a good two weeks worth, and these boys gotta go, I'll make up the money I lost getting them installed" because they're cute but I'm struggling, the extensions are to my butt, and I miss my hair!
This was great! I normally get box braids and I've used all kinds of hair. I think that the weight of the braids is dependent on the hair used. I use Xpressions and that isn't heavy (it may not be heavy to me cuz I have a big head and my neck is probably used to it now) but one day I wanted a specific colour that they didn't have so I ordered it from China and it said it was 80 grams a pack. It looked a lot smaller from what I normally used and came in 10 packs an order total so I got two just in case. I ended up using 18 packs out of the 20 in total (this equates to about 5ish packs of regular braiding hair) and those braids were wayyyyyyyyyy too heavy on my head. Not all braiding hair shows the weight of the hair on the pack but I would suggest to check the weight before getting braids in again. They look AMAZING on you! :)
This is so true and I got Fulani braids last year and I have Senegalese twists now but I learned my lesson I went to a different stylist who doesn’t braid too tight and I made sure she left my edges alone. When I got my braids last year , it was so heavy that I was in pain for WEEKS and I was like I’m NEVER going through that again I’m going to a different stylist !
You’re funny🤣😏Last, but not least lol I’m feeling myself...pause the madness, cute now carry-on💁🏽♀️💅🏽Idc how old the video was I was researching and came across this and now you have a newbie subbie🤘🏽💯
Whole video got me hollerin, the suffering we go through for added beauty n protective styles. It ain't for the weak. Oh and thank you for the PROPER shout outs you do, unlike others (showing it for 1sec. *sipping my tea* )
To prevent the itchiness, it sometimes works to put a little bit of over-the-counter hydrocortisone 0.5% on the scalp in between the braids right after getting them done
🤣 the first time I got feed in braids I took 3 ibuprofen and put a towel on my head which didn't work. Couldn't sleep until I took a shower later on that night to help loosen it up lawd. When I took them out my edges were thin because she braids so tight
I agree I have braids right now too (giving my wash and go a break) and what gets me is how quickly your scalp gets dry and itchy. I have to moisturize everyday just about before bed.
I love my braider. My braids aren’t tight at all and it’s not itchy whatsoever. I used Bobbi boss braiding hair and did not soak the hair. Everything else girl yessss!!! Especially feeling myself lmaoooo
PREACH!! Especially when it comes to the sleeping part. Lawd have mercy, the first two nights... And the first night you feel your head top pulsating... unpleasant.
Yes definitely feeling this video, I just got mine done 2 days ago and do not remember how bad these braids hurt. My scalp is virginized been like 10 years since I had braids in my hair Im honestly about to take them out, I keep thinking about losing my sides. The weight is annoying and yes its interfering with sleep lol and I needs all dat lol beautiful style but comes with a price metaphorically and financially lol I think I'm over the braids unless its my own hair sheesh I had enough lol😭😂😭❤️
Yesssss!!!! I know exactly wat you mean dont know if i should laugh or cry!! Lol😂😂my family think im going cray cray from all the patty, but its really itch 🤦♀️
I remember when I just got my hair braided. Lol the second day I spritz them joints with water... Cos I thought if they go dry they ain’t gone grow 😂😂 that joint started flaking quick
"Me and sleep are like best friends." 😁 Lol. Girl, I hear ya on this one. Getting an adequate amount of sleep can make the difference of having a bad day or a good day.
Giiirllll same af. This is exactly why I admire braids from a distance. I'm too damn indecisive anyways & im already knowing how mad my scalp would be! She act a fool now, I couldn't image adding itchy hair and tight braids to the mix lol I love you tho girl 💋💋💋 were besties in my head 🤣
When I was 11, I got a masive head of senagalise twist that went to my bum. Even though I had 2kg of braids on my head I didn't find it heavy but I had the cheapest scratchiest extensions ever so I had to take them out in a week. IM 14 and getting box braids and NOT MAKING THE SAME MISTAKES
I usually get box braids but I’ve gradually gotten them shorter so they’re not heavy and once my hair starts to puff out of them since I wash them I cut them to collarbone length so they won’t be heavy
Just got braids in today and I'm feeling every single thing you said girl. What about when they get wet, and it takes two centuries and six turbo jets worth of hot air before they dry again, damn! They're cute and all but I'm thinking two weeks max is all I can take with these.
My boyfriend is also sleeping with my braids too. So is heavy, really heavy. For me and for him too. Sleeping is an adventure, but i still love my braids 🥰
LOL its reassuring to know I'm not the only one watching out while using the bathroom. I have to tie up my braids to use the bathroom, shower, cook, eat, brush my teeth etc. No one told me my life would be flipped upside down by box braids LOL. I'm itchy and after 2 weeks I've made a hair appointment. Going to take out these heavy itchy box braids and get a sew in instead that's not long at all
I be patting my head when it itch it dont help i be using comb and patting it still dont work next......IM USING MY BACK SCRATCHER THAT ITCH NEEDED TO GO HONEY!!!!😂😂😂😂
Lol you too funny!!! I always use braids as a protective style...I'm doing them this Saturday actually. Only thing I don't like is the take down. My girl doesn't pull too tight so my edges are fine and she doesn't use a lot of hair so it's not heavy. I put my hair up in a bun every night to sleep and when I am home....so they aren't in my way and I don't feel hot 💁🏾💁🏾
I truly enjoyed this! Thank you! So my question here is, is there a sleeping trick for the rest of the time? I can feel them digging into the scalp and it’s painful. 😩 And I only have 5 dreads 😂
The takedown!😣😝
nolakiss yes yes and yes!!! I totally forgot to add that!!! That's a good one.
Had braids, took em out, and immediately hopped in shower to wash my hair...15 min later I HAD to big chop. Matted mess!
Right, I went straight to the shower and had to do a big chop because of the matting. Anyways 7months later I do MY OWN braids....
Nolakiss OMG YES. THIS IS WHY WHEN MY MOM DOES MY HAIR I ALWAYS GET SCARED TO GET A CREATIVE HAIR STYLE, JUST BECAUSE OF THE TAKEDOWN.

Oh and thank you for the PROPER shout outs you do, unlike others (showing it for 1sec. *sipping my tea* )
YESSS edge check constantly because my first experience with braids left me scarred.... :(
To prevent the itchiness, it sometimes works to put a little bit of over-the-counter hydrocortisone 0.5% on the scalp in between the braids right after getting them done
Lol. Braids be sounding like a whole bad relationship following you , gettin in your way
You are so pretty omg. Your makeup, melanin, and hair are poppin.
I soaked my hair and they're still itching! I don't know how some people keep them so long. 😩😩😩
She took me out when she said my neck be mad. CRYING!
You were dead on, just got mine, now trying to figure out how to wash my hair.
I relate to all of these lol. But for the itching, rice water works, well it works for me. It calms it down
I love my braider. My braids aren’t tight at all and it’s not itchy whatsoever. I used Bobbi boss braiding hair and did not soak the hair. Everything else girl yessss!!! Especially feeling myself lmaoooo
Lmao you a mess, but I feel your pain. Great video Nae ❤️
Most of this long hair struggles 😂
Who disliked this tho?? Too funny😂
I remember when I just got my hair braided. Lol the second day I spritz them joints with water... Cos I thought if they go dry they ain’t gone grow 😂😂 that joint started flaking quick
She said “ain’t no sleep” “me and sleep we like best friends” that killed me
Loved your video and just wanted to share that braids fall into your food when you're preparing or eating.
🤣🤣🤣😂😂😂😂😆😆 as a true braid wearer since I was 10 years old you were so on point with this.
Girl!!! I wish I knew these things when I was a child but it’s too late I carry the burden every few months for the vibes I get.
Another thing after they put the water the water be dripping down your back
"Me and sleep are like best friends." 😁 Lol.
I had braids for like a month, and I'm DEFINITELY getting them again although I have to go through all this trouble :D Love your vids btw
Just got braids in today and I'm feeling every single thing you said girl. What about when they get wet, and it takes two centuries and six turbo jets worth of hot air before they dry again, damn! They're cute and all but I'm thinking two weeks max is all I can take with these.
I put my hair in acv before I put it in and my head was stilllll itching like crazy.. so idk 🤷🏾♀️
And you was speaking straight truth girl 😂 every single point I was like Yass 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾
My boyfriend is also sleeping with my braids too. So is heavy, really heavy. For me and for him too. Sleeping is an adventure, but i still love my braids 🥰
Seriously loving your personality
The trying to slip bit!! Yes!! I thought I would just never sleep again!
"Me and sleep are best friends," love it
A good trick add a few drops of clove oil to your hair oil put it on your scalpl it stops the itch fast
I truly enjoyed this! Thank you! So my question here is, is there a sleeping trick for the rest of the time? I can feel them digging into the scalp and it’s painful. 😩 And I only have 5 dreads 😂
"I didn't knoooow this was dangerous!" 😂😂😂 You're hilarious love it
I'm white and I make cornrows and box braids on myself perfectly. I can relate to this video too, you're so pretty and i love your charm❤️
Proud of you
You’ve got a great sense of humour 😂😂😂 “oo catch it” 😂😂
You are funny! I see stand up in your future😂😂
Thank you for this. Ive been thinking on braids to leave my hair alone, but the process is a struggle. Love your eyeshadow!
