This man has some serious testicular fortitude to drive a car that large in Peru. Spent a week there and a couple of days in Lima. Absolutely crazy drivers, like 6 wide on a 3 lane highway. But kudos to him, definitely a standout ride down there.
got my 1st ticket in one of these going 110 in a 55 mph zone .I was 18 and never drove a car so nice before i had no idea i was going that fast ,really an amazing ride
I had the same experience as a teenager having grown up with one these Caddys as a family car - I got pulled over by a HP at about 1am on the interstate - the patrolman said he followed me for about 5 minutes (with his headlights off) and I was averaging about 110 plus before he pulled me over. I was 15 years old and if it were not for the saving (and forgiving) grace of my mother I would have been jailed and the car impounded. He did comment that I was a very good driver!
My mother had a 1973 Eldorado hardtop, butter cream colored, fully optioned and let me tell you, SHE LOVED THAT CAR! I did too, having taken my drivers license in it {you could parallel park it with one finger}. It was enormous, fast, quiet, luxurious and literally floated down the road and had the rare 8 track Quadrophonic tape deck stereo in it. I miss my mom and the great road trips we used to take in that Caddy, my mom driving like a bat out of hell and "Band on The Run" blaring from the speakers - every time I see one of these cars I smile and think of Clara - love you Mom
I love classic Cadillacs too. Modern are also very exotic here in Europe as they are pretty rare. I work near US embassy and they have couple of them in car fleet. There are some SUVs but for me DTS limo is special occasion whenever passes by. It so classy in black trim.
I thought we were supposed to think that anything American, especially their cars, were tasteless and tacky and we had to buy a Mercedes, BMW, Range Rover, Bentley, Rolls-Royce etc. to be tasteful, even though they are more expensive to buy maintain and store properly. I guess not everyone who is not American is that way.
Absolutely awesome and brings back memories. My dad in the late 90's bought a 78 Eldorado with the 500 in it, but it was a hard top. It had 20,000ish miles on the clock and was just an amazing cruising car. I remember on two separate occasions being pulled over while riding in it with my dad just so the officer could look at the car, it was basically a time capsule the car was so pristine. Thanks for the great video and bringing back those memories. I love this channel!
Cirus61 No swap was done, the car was all original and low mileage. Even the tires were factory original. Either I'm mistaken on the year of my dad's Eldorado, or he was mistaken on it having the 500. I'll have to double check with him when I talk to him. I didn't know the 500 ended in 76, I figured it went on till the end of the large body style of the Eldorado. Now I'm curious as to if my father was mistaken or I was on the year!
We all enjoy the Porsche's, Ferrari's and other supercars. But honestly, I keep coming back to this channel, for stories such as the 1973 Series III Landrover, and this story. Come on. A Scot, living in Lima, Peru ... driving a 1973 Eldorado Cadillac. How does the "human story" get any more interesting? More than anything else, it actually had me missing my time of living abroad ...
GOOD FOR YOU! My First Car at age 17 was a 1973 Fleetwood in 1977 my dads uncle was buying the new downsized Caddy and I was thrilled to buy his like NEW FLORIDA FLEETWOOD for $1700 to me that was a STEAL even though that was $6600 in todays money he had just came back to the North East for the summer invited us up to a pool party and I saw the sign and my heart popped out of my chest. I screamed the car is sold. I didn't care how I was getting the money. I had half of it working full time got a loan for the rest with help from dad. I was KING and even my Granddad was jealous of me driving that car at age 17. But $70 a week in gas at age 17 was a bit much. I kept it 2 years. No issues.
In the post emissions era of Land Yachts, Eldorados were land battleships, huge, and strong. Not the fastest but it had some pretty damn good torque, and damn were they stylish too
Even here in America there aren't many of these running around anymore. I would love to get my hands on a old Eldorado convertible or hardtop but right now even these cars that were fairly inexpensive have skyrocketed along with pretty much every used car. Glad to see this car makes so many happy!
Front wheel drive means better in the snow and rain. These cars aren't meant for speed, but for a lot of comfort and also some practicality. The worst part is that it has absolutely, positively, awful fuel efficiency.
Anonymou s I live in NE Ohio and front drive cars don't always do that great in the snow. That understeer can be a real problem. Some do great. Some are capital D dangerous. I have an AWD, little thing, winter car. A Suzuki. Drives like a snowcat in the worst conditions.
She's a beauty, i used to have a brown one, also a 73' ragtop, bought it in Eazle Texas from a caddilac collector, he had many old caddy's sitting in his pasture and in barns, so i bought this one and dtove it straight to the French quarter in New Orleans for Mardi grass that year, so now this is about 30 years ago, nothing better than touring an old caddy around, i wound up in Germany with it and sold it there to pay for my return flight😂
I've got to say it's a breath of fresh air to see someone's car featured. where the owner isn't a company director of a motoring-based parts / building / restoration company. Great film.
I like most American cars from the 20:th century! Especially from the 70's and 80's. Same goes for all other European/Japanese cars as well. It's my favourite era of everything.
Anonymou s Well that's YOUR opinion. Sure there was a lot of plastic-fantastic back then, but the 2000s - present is far worse, even more plastic, more shitty electronics and awful design.
6:47 That's the thing about oldtimers, put them in the nature in front of the sunset, perfect picture. Not that I dislike modern cars, but they fit better in the city, but older cars look more relaxing, even the sports cars.
Love this guys passion for his car My Grand dad loved all his Caddys too Me I love Mercedes but I still can respect A true American standard of the world Automobile
I love the very visual, easy to figure out controls on cars in those days. These days, the "grown up KIDS" have to have everything on a touchscreen, and anyone hiring cars on a vacation, would still not have found out how to use the windscreen wipers before it's time to go home again
If the owner of this car is reading can I ask how you imported an old car into Peru? I’m a fellow Brit living part of the time in Lima and I want to buy a car in the US to drive down to Peru. However I’ve read you can’t import a car over 5 years old. Is there a classic car clause in the rules?
In 1967, my father bought himself a new '67 Eldorado hardtop. He never owned a Cadillac. One day driving with him in that car, he kinda sat up and turned to me and said proudly: "Ya know what they call this car Shelly¿........A rich man's Mustang". He was kinda a big shot, and this car suited him very well.
In my mind, the Cadillacs from the 70's and early 80's are the spiritual center of the Cadillac brand. These are Cadillacs! Granted, I was born in the mid 70's and my dad had a used mid to late 70's Cadillac when I was growing up but still, the Cadillacs from this era are a great reminder that there was a time that Cadillac didn't chase the Germans. They just wanted a Cadillac to be a Cadillac and they were proud enough of their niche to be okay with that. I am and have always been okay with that, too. Cadillac of today could learn a thing or two from this car and the company culture that built it.
I could not agree with you more. Cadillacs today are good, but I would like them to be more American and less wanna-be German. And they need one big luxo-cruiser convertible in the line like this Eldo.
Great video, but WHAT'S the GAS MILEAGE you get???? Geez, I waited all through the video for the answer to that question. Also, is gas really cheap in Peru? Mileage might not be an issue down there. Please respond.
really cool car and I'd love to drive one of these on a road trip in the Americas, but yeah in the UK and most of Europe these type of cars just wouldn't work especially because of all the narrow little roads etc
This was a superior machine 10 grand worth of gimmicks and high price special effects the rear windows leapt up with a touch like frogs in a dynamite pond the dasboard was full of esoteric lights and dials and meters which i would never understand
Haha, it's funny we think South America is all about drug lords and extreme poverty... I used to think the same way until I moved there for work... and trust me, it wasn't drug-related! :)
I am from Lima Peru as well, heck i made my drive test of my 81 mitsubishi sapporo in the malecon de chorrillos as well hahaha, but this guy is right, peruvian customs are the worst. I got a set of parts for my 1961 Ford Taunus 17M, and got a notification saying that my parts are used and won't enter here, at the end i threw my money away. Also, we didn't had too many car choices in the 70's, due to the military goverment of Velazco Alvarado, we had 4 choices: Volkswagen beetle for the lower end, Toyota corona and "datsun", actually a Violet, and for the military or higher end range, Dodge coronet or monaco (yes, a luxury car, without vinyl roof). It is really hard to have a classic car here, and import taxes make your car double the price from where you get it and when it gets here 70% to be exact, but insurance and MOT is super cheap so when it gets here, just fill up the gas tank and you're ready to go. I wish petrolicious callme someday to test my taunus hahaha!

@@johndoe4558 yes but i was doing 110 for miles and miles and it was like floating
It's really nice to see Hank from breaking bad doing alright 👍👍😂😂
He got tired of Marie always mixing the minerals for rocks. :D
Guys, I'm sorry to break this to you but Hank passed the 15th of September back in '13.
I was thinking the exact same thing!
Or did he ?
My mother had a 1973 Eldorado hardtop, butter cream colored, fully optioned and let me tell you, SHE LOVED THAT CAR! Beautiful. Proper American vehicle.
I'm sorry to tell you, but the only real american vehicles are the mobility scooters at Wal-Mart.
really?
If you think this is good, you havn't seen the 50's Cadillacs! '57 Cadillacs were stunning!
I love classic Cadillacs too. Modern are also very exotic here in Europe as they are pretty rare. I work near US embassy and they have couple of them in car fleet. There are some SUVs but for me DTS limo is special occasion whenever passes by. It so classy in black trim.

Cadillac needs to go back to its roots
Yep
I agree 100%
Few years too new for my taste, but the 68 eldorados are probably my favorite car.
Really under appreciated.

Couldn't been a '78. The last year for the 500 was '76 unless someone had done a motor swap.
Cirus61 No swap was done, the car was all original and low mileage. Even the tires were factory original. Staatus Quo Yep. The Eldorados from 77 and 78 all had the 425.
The quality of these videos are just outstanding. Color grading is just beautifully done

When I was a kid, my dad had a friend that he worked with. All he bought were Eldorados and Continentals. This brings back memories!
I've always had a soft spot for these big American boats, as much as I'd hate to admit it, haha.
That's because they are all unapologetic class. The pinnacle of the automobile viewpoint. Uncontested.
Sweet looking car. I've always liked Cadillacs of the late 60s and early 70s.
Love Cadillac. Good music too.
Ahh...this is truly refreshing! A petrolicious vid that's NOT about posh boys and their Porsches!
Some absolutely beautiful panning shots of Lima, goes to show how Petrolicious' photography is a cut above most others.
A Scotsman living in Peru driving a classic American land yacht. Great video.
In the post emissions era of Land Yachts, Eldorados were land battleships, huge, and strong. Not the fastest but it had some pretty damn good torque, and damn were they stylish too

I wonder what kind of tire pressure he's running.
He should try seventy five pounds.
BEAUTIFUL FUCKING TITS!
Lol Barstow is a sketchy place, kind of peaceful though.
that was a caprice
I've never been much of a fan of this era of American car. But you can't deny that it's pretty cool. And he's a pretty cool guy too. Good luck to him.
Wonderful boat! American car manufactures should make a modern version of these! Not fucking crossovers or imitate german cars...
Horrible boat. FWD.
The Metal Butcher You never, obviously, drove one.

I love the 73s. We had a Fleetwood Brougham. Never was there a more luxurious sedan.
What's the lap time on Nurburgring?
It was definitely under 7, days.
7 very comfy days :P
you need a calendar, not a stop watch on this car :)
I guess the most important thing, if it did a Nurburgring lap, would be that it would do it with more style than any fast car😎
I don't think they allow cruise ships on the 'Ring.
That car just fits into that setting so well. I don't know why but it's just about perfect.
Finally someone who understands my pain (The luxury cars for me are what really does it.
Not the first European geologist in South America seeking an El Dorado....But the first to find it!
Finally! An American luxurious car!
..... what about a 1963 Buick Riviera? that's pretty fucking luxurious
for a 63 of course
I like most American cars from the 20:th century! Especially from the 70's and 80's. Same goes for all other European/Japanese cars as well. It's my favourite era of everything.

There are few greater pleasures in life than a big old convertible.

I'd get a kick out of seeing this too! It's pretty cool!
back when Cadillacs were Cadillacs. not 4 door Corvettes
Awesome guy and a great video , cheers mate 😎

Awesome music! My ears and heart tell me its a Charango

just beautiful car !!
fear and loathing in las Vegas! sweet ride
I need a '75... nice vid
I saw the "made to drive" thing and I couldn't help but laugh; this is an eldorado after all
How did you guys ended up in Lima? There a few more stories (cars) here.
Always look out for air hostesses with rocket launchers when you see one of these Cadilacs
nice video
what's name of first song ?
Any way to differentiate between eldorado and deville? Both confuse me especially the 70s and 60s ones
Anybody knows the song name at 0:54 please?
That hose!
Cool car. The body is in very good condition considering it lives on the coast. If that was blackpool it would be dust after one year.
Great video, but WHAT'S the GAS MILEAGE you get???? Geez, I waited all through the video for the answer to that question. Also, is gas really cheap in Peru? Mileage might not be an issue down there. Please respond.
Moses Berkowitz I'd say somewhere in 13-16 MPG.
It’s a Cadillac 500 V8, it gets about 9 mpg

Great Video, but the background song is Samba, only popular in Brazil... 😊
Thats a nice automobile....
Hey what is the music used for this video?
Stef Otten Martín Zarzar
Realy want to know, very good music!
Do you know which song exactly is featured in the beginning of the video?
Special is what u are, not what u have!
I'm pretty sure this car belonged to a drug lord in the 70s.
Which doesn't?
Or a Harlem pimp, either way there's probably blood in the carpet.
Or Rico Tubbs from Miami Vice :)
Who could have been the owner of a pink one tho?
I've been in a pink one,and I'd like to know who could've been the original owner for you guys
Haha, it's funny we think South America is all about drug lords and extreme poverty... I used to think the same way until I moved there for work... and trust me, it wasn't drug-related! :)
How would you drive that in Peru? The speedometer doesn't have kph, right?
I suppose you could recalibrate it to run kph numbers
Just got mine
You gotta love a land yacht.
Why do all the millionaires get the Ferrari's and range rovers and all the rest when they could have one of these chariots? Beautiful cool car!
