Today, I got a hold of the new Ring Floodlight security camera and I'll be doing the review from opening the box, installing, setup and browse some of its features and show you sample video footage. I also have a couple of issues and hiccups during the install and setup.
Ring FloodLight Camera - amzn.to/2sVE401
Ring Spotlight Camera Review - • Ring Spotlight Camera ...
So here are some features: it is a 1080 HD video camera with 2 way communication and infrared night vision. It has an advanced motion detection just like their doorbell and has a 110 db siren and a motion and remote activated 3000 degree kelvin LED flood lights.
The lights are activated by motion and also manually using the app and the security siren will only go off when you manually push it from the app...so it will not go off unless you want it to go off.

My sincere thanks for a straight forward honest review of the Ring Flood Light, mine is on order and you've helped me make the choice and know what to expect. Much appreciated!
You are welcome...
LifeHackster u
What a creative device! I have the Ring doorbell camera and it’s awesome. Works so well with my Armorax security system.
I have to say I really enjoyed watching your video! Very informative! My wife and I are considering purchasing a security cam and because of your video, we are most likely going to go with the ring Floodlight. Thank you for your video!
You are more than welcome.
Just ordered one and had installed in under 10 mins, and up and running in another 5 mins. The directions are about the best I've ever seen - clear, well written, good diagrams, and everything you need for installation is in the box including a simple S hanger for the light while doing the wiring and even a screwdriver/socket. So far his thing is pretty well perfect - and I'm quite happy paying $30/year for cloud-based storage of 6 months worth of videos! I have no complaints at all - and agree, if Ring would add a front door lantern version, I'd get one instead of the whole doorbell thing which doesn't interest me much.
Yup. I love mine too...no issues so far..
so what happens if i dont subscribe to their cloud? unable to record or save any footage i guess?
Yes, you will not be able to save/record footage. You can view it live though or whenever there is a motion the camera will still alert you then you can view the footage live.
gotcha. was going to buy one but operating temperature isnt good enough. for couple weeks a year it can get to -35 C. manual said its only good to -20 C. thing looks awesome though.
Not many bad guys out when it is that cold! :-)
Nice neighborhood! I got a ring doorbell cam 2 and I'm happy with it. I can't wait to add on and buy this floodlight.
I'm glad we have fiber optic cables in our neighborhood. 👍
Another informative video. Well done! Thank you.
Thank You.
Thanks for the thorough review.
Great video! Well explained. Thank you
You are welcome.
Great instructional video.
Damn, what a fantastic video. Thank you!🤗
You are welcome.
Brilliant informative video, thank you
Great video installing mine tomorrow
Cool...you will like it..
Hey Lifehackster-How long can you watch live video feed before it kicks you off and or start getting laggy/pixelation and video delay..?
How does it compare to the Yi Dome or Home 1080p cameras--I own 3 of the Yi dome 1080p cams and I can watch the live video for as long as I want with any issues..
Live video feed is pretty good. It doesn't kick me off. Occasionally, it will have some lags but the picture is still pretty clear. The one thing I like about the Ring flood light camera is how wide angle ... side to side that I can see my whole front yard...and that's with the camera placed on the right side of the house. The Yi cameras are pretty good also on video quality..the only downside is that the Yi is not an outdoor camera...
great video. just ordered a wifi extender to make sure I get the best possible connection to mine.
Cool, let us know how it works for you.
My network didn't give a good signal strength on the front of the garage where I mounted my flood. I tried buying a better stronger wifi router that did not help. Then I bought the Google WiFi mesh system with 3 modules. Works great and I don't have the loss of speed that occurs with a wireless extender. It is pricey though. $250.
Thank you for a great video!
You are welcome.
nice detailed review
During the live view, is there a record option where you can manually record an event like the maximus security light? Or does it only record automatically when there is motion?
Live view are automatically recorded. So, every time you access the camera and during motion, it is recorded in the cloud. It will also be classified either a motion, live view or ring ( missed or answered for the doorbell) dated and time stamped in the event history.
one suggestion i'd add after chatting with my local electrician. lay a bead of seal around the hub where it mates with your home or wall etc. he's a fan of keeping water/rain/snow from behind these cams.. same for any wall mount box or bracket leave a small weep opening at the 6 o'clock area.
Yes, that is a good tip. The mounting plate has a rubber/foam seal on both sides also. The last time I removed it, everything is sealed and no evidence of any water or moisture inside the box.
How high is your camera from the ground as I just installed it yesterday which is around 9 feet and I don’t get lot of area covered horizontally, I can barely see half of front house no sky at all. If I change the angle it miss lot of area near to my garage and one of my car totally. Is there any other setting I am missing?
Mine is around 9-10 feet also but my house is setup in an incline which probably another 2-3 feet higher than the street. It should have a 140 degree field of view which is pretty much how you see it in my video. I don't think you can adjust the FOV of the camera but if you cannot see at least the 1-2 houses in front of you then there might be a problem with the camera's lens?
Hi what other hard wired ip outdoor camera is best? My house has an outdoor junction box pre installed and i can put a floodlight on it. Im thinking the ring floodlight cam because most outdoor ip cam has its own power jack. Im also looking for other alternative brands to look into.
I think the Ring floodlight camera would be your best option if you want to use the junction box.
Can i turn on the flood lights as additional lighting if needed with out the camera getting triggered with motion?
Outstanding review, I'm a buyer. Do you know if I buy the two pack can I give one to a family member for use at their house or are they some how linked?
Yes. You can give one and they are not linked. They need to have and signed up for the app, set the camera through the app.
Great review!
Thank You.
Would you like a $10 referral credit
Great review. I just purchased and installed it today. However the connection is not as good like you mentioned. What kind of wifi extender do you ?
I have an entry level Netgear Wifi Range extender... amzn.to/2urnQta
Any range extender should work...
Great review. I got all my questions answered but one. I use my current flood lights a lot on a light switch. Can I turn the light switch on and off to turn on the lights? Or do I have to keep the switch turned on all the time or the Ring won’t work since this is how it gets power?
You need to keep that switch turned on. In the kit comes with a sticker that you can place on the switch reminding you of not turning it off. There is really no need to toggle the switch on or off because the floodlight will turn on and off automatically when there is motion and you can manually turn it on through the app if you want it turned on longer.
I was just curious if you had any issues with the camera in direct sunlight, or prolonged direct sunlight? excellent vid thanks !!
No issues at all. My Ring floodlight is in full sun from 1pm until 5 everyday and it still looks new after 6 months... ua-cam.com/video/CILuegD_-gk/v-deo.html
Question my flood laps... regular ones only light up when I turn on the switch three on the front and there on the rear what do I have to do install this flood lap does power have to be on at all timed will I have to wire it different ?
Power needs to be on at all times for the Ring floodlight cam to work. I have to tape the switch on mine so that nobody will accidentally turn it off.
Thank you for the video Sir! Can i hook up the Ringflood Cam to my patio light instead? I dont have floodlights pre-wired into my home.. I wanted to use the ring as my patio light instead, was wondering if thats possible. Thank you again
You definitely can. As long as you have a power supply 110-240 volts, you should be able to hook it up.
How bright are the floodlights? Ring doesn't list a lumen rating for them and seeing video from the onboard camera really doesn't show me anything either. Can you compare the brightness to the normal 100W halogen floodlight lamps?
The light output is just a tad dimmer than the 100W halogens that I replaced it with. It is a "soft white" which mimics the halogens and at night, you wouldn't think it is an LED.
@2:15 it shows it as LEDs.
is this worth it? it seems like exactly what im looking for. I have a repair shop in a pretty shitty area of the city. i see this kind of stuff more for home use, do i need a more commercial set up? Id like to catch license plates and faces. does this record on demand? how bad is the lag? if im out of state i can still operate it as if i was standing in the building? sorry for the questions looking forward to the long term updates. Like i said it seems to have options im seeking but just wonder why i dont see them in more high risk areas
Yes, I love my Ring Floodlight camera. This is more for home use but you can use it to compliment a NVR surveillance security system which I recommend if you need to monitor your business. ua-cam.com/video/2100dx_FVhU/v-deo.html
The Ring floodlight will record when motion is detected..and is pretty accurate that you will have less false alarm notifications on your phone. You can monitor and watch live view of your property anywhere around the world as long as you have an internet connection.
Thnx that was helpful!!
You are welcome.
So, I have a built in street number in my brick right about where you put yours on your garage.... Should I put it on the overhang in the corner instead and just aim one light towards the driveway and the other towards the side yard?
Yes, you can do that. The camera itself has a wide angle view side to side that my whole front yard can be viewed even I installed it on the garage which is on the right side of my house.
very useful thanks !
You are welcome.
I was all set to buy 3 of these, until I read a comment saying I’d have to pay an addition $30/mo for recording. I’m so tired of the extra bullshit fees!! I have a 3T HD for my home survallence system, that came with my 10 cameras and can have as many as 16 in total. Best system on the market! If I could connect it to my HD 3T, then I’d get the three for the alarm and talking features alone.
Nope. It is not 30/month. If you have 3 cameras, then just get the Ring Protect Plan which is 10 bucks a month or 100 dollars a year for unlimited number of cameras in one address...Plus, if you have their alarm system, then the professional monitoring is included with that pricing... as far as I know, it is the cheapest subscription...
How do you think the light output compares to standard 2 light floodlights? It seems the lumen output of most of the regular floodlights are in the 2800 range while I have read the Ring floodlight is more like 1600-1800 lumen. I am a bit worried that they will not provide as much light.
They have average light..not too bright but not too dim...just enough light for the camera to have good color night vision. Some floodlights that are too bright might cause the cameras footage to be overexposed which happens with some cameras.
Hi: Thank You what kind of wifi extender did you put up in your garage?
I have an older model netgear N600 WiFi extender...Still holding strong...
I am still confuse about the motion zones for lights setting. tonight i noticed on my live view, the floodlight was on when my next door neighbor pull into their driveway. i turned off the right side ( neighbor ) so only 2 are on. Which setting i should choose? the middle one or max? or in between almost reach to the max setting?
You need to experiment with it...customize for your needs... just FYI, headlights trigger motion detection and also the lights..shadows also during daytime...
What are your thoughts or opinions on mounting it to the ceiling? I'm thinking of buying one and replacing my porch roof/ceiling light and have this thing just aim down(mounted directly to the roof) . It's about 12 feet up, so people won't be able to mess with it very easy. I figure, with motion activated lights, people will walk into my porch, light turns on and they automatically look up and BAM! Bright highly visible face shot!
Yes it can be mounted in a ceiling too.
Thank you for another good informative video, can I ask in your opinion which would you recommend out of the Ring Floodlight and the Ring Spotlight cam ?
Both are good...Don't get the battery version of the Spotlight Cam...it currently has bad lagging and freezing issues which I'm hoping Ring will address.
Thank you
Great video. It answered a lot of my questions about the product. The only question I have left is, do you know if you can save/download videos the day of an event without the monthly fee?
As far as I know, you will not be able to. You will be able to receive alerts when motion is detected and be able to stream live video, talk and activate the alarm/siren but not save or download the video.
Thanks! Not what I wanted to hear, but I appreciate the information. :D
Great Video, I watched it a few time now and I love how this is so recent too.
Question: Can the app support two flood lights? Can the flood light be powered by Rings Solar Panel and do you believe that will provide enough power to operate properly?
The app can support more than 2 floodlights and even other ring products. And No, to the second question. The Flood light is directly and needs to be hard wired (110-240 volts) It doesn't have a battery like the stick up cam or the doorbell. Thanks.
Do you get notifications outside of the motion zone? I do and it’s annoying, because I keep minimizing the zone but I still get notified when passing cars go by.
Not in daytime.. at night I will get notifications when somebody is walking in the sidewalk. Try adjusting the sensitivity to people only and see if it helps.
Is this standard ONVIF compatible so I can use other video recording software as a NVR or is it proprietary and locked down to just Ring and their pay as you go cloud? Any Ethernet\connected option or only Wifi?
Thanks
NBSTL68 - It is proprietary and only WiFi connection for the video recording.
Great review, I'm going to purchase this today, my neighborhood is starting to turn to shit. I also notice that you had the Zmodo app as well and just curious did you keep your Zmodo cameras as well? I have the old Zmodo 600tvl system with harddrive, that still work but are not as clear as I would like them to be but I've had for many, many years and have done me extremely well and will move the one camera facing my driveway to capture the right side of my house and replace my old flood unit with this Ring. The more the merrier. Thanks for taking your time and showing this to the people.
I have an old zmodo wired 720p which I replaced it with the 4MP Reolink POE NVR system. It was working ok for 2-3 years until the Ethernet port on the camera got corroded (no weatherproofing yet at that time)
@@LifeHackster thanks for the follow up, I've purchased the floodlight cam and I'm very pleased, set up was about 20min. Very good features and I like the fact I can communicate with others in my neighborhood about suspicious activity and such. I highly recommend this product. Thanks again for your review. I still have my Zmodo cams up and will run them until they expire.
I've just bought a 2 set, but I have stucco on the outside of my garage, there is NO junction box, can this just be screwed directly to the stucco? I'm concerned about the weight, and I'm avoiding having to drill a large hole to place a junction box, any suggestions? oh, I already have the wiring to extend to the ring, I just am trying to avoid making unneccesary holes on the outside of my gararge, thanks in advance
Ring recommends a junction box to hook their floodlight. You can get a junction box that you can install outside the wall if you don't want a hole. Also the junction box needs to be screwed in to a stud or something solid... amzn.to/2DtHGZz
Nice view. From the floor to the camera how many feet ?
Good review! I am looking to buy this floodlight unit this week. Looks like I will need the junction box and an electrician because the front of my brick garage does not have any existing wires to connect the floodlight wires to. Does the floodlight send signal, beep or something to your cellphone to alert you that someone is in your yard or zone? How long does it take to receive the alarm?
Thank You...Yes, you will get alerted on your phone. If you have the ring doorbell, it is the same tone when the motion detection is activated. Before you get the electrician out, check first if you have a good Wifi signal with the garage door closed. On mine, I have to add a Wifi Extender in the garage just to get a good and consistent Wifi signal.
LifeHackster what WiFi extender did you get and where? I have the same problem with my garage door closed no signal
Is this alot better than the stick up cam because they suck with the delay & often are motion triggered when there is no motion, then when I try connect to live view it often won't connect and my Wi-Fi signal is fine. So pretty much they are a waste of money. So I'm wondering if the floodlight camera is worth the money. Thanks
Definitely worth the money in my case... It has been 1 year already and the floodlight still works great...
What can you recomend about buying a good wifi extender to use my ring flooflight ?
Actually, anything will do...I just tested TP-link and it works good. - amzn.to/2F74q1X
I am so impressed with these reviews from LifeHackster. He covers every detail of what he is reviewing and shows us how to set up and testing results. I LOVE that there is no fake acting and ‘yelling’ at you like other videos. He gets right to the point. I’m subscribing! Thank you LifeHackster!
Thank you. I appreciate it.
Can you tell me the distance, in feet, that the person can be from the Ring in orde for the floodlights to turn on? I do not see anywhere on the packaging or Ring's website where it tells us how far out the person can be and the floodlights will turn on. My car is parked approx. 30 feet from where I would install this, so if someone walks up to my car, will the floodlights turn on? Or is it a shorter distance, which, for me, is not useful.
The Ring setup guide states that if you install the floodlight 9 feet off the ground and the motion/light sensor is parallel to the ground, it can detect motion to activate the lights up to 30 feet. Please note that this can be adjusted on the "lights settings -> advanced settings" menu of the app. I have to change mine and narrow it down to only a few feet forward and more to the sides because passing cars on the street activates it and turns on the flood light and in turn triggers the motion detection/alerts me. In your case, yes it can sense motion up to 30 feet away.
Ring now includes with the product a set of 5 or 6 different sizes of screws. The size that matched the previous screws weren't any long, so I used the original screws...
I have their "mount" version that includes with different types of screws and washers that you can open up a hardware store lol... that is one reason I like Ring..they include everything...
sir i want ask what materials of this cam that weather resistant
Thanks for the reviews on the Ring. Do you prefer the Ring FloodLight Camera or the Ring Spotlight Camera best.
I prefer the Ring Floodlight camera just because it has more light output. The camera part of it on both cameras are the same.
Thank you for answering so quickly. We are going to buy that one then. My hubby's truck got broke into in our fenced in yard, so we need to get a good security system in place. I appreciate the help.
Excellent review! For some reason I thought there was more advanced face recognition with floodlight?
I noticed there is a lot of sky in your camera view. Would it make sense to point the camera lower on your driveway? Is it possible for it to view your garage door?
I can tilt it down a little bit more and I'll see if I'll be able to view my garage door. I was amazed of its field of view that I can see 6 houses in front of me and even our little park area on the right...
Kkkkku
How long are the bulbs rated to last?
How can i order it and who will install it. ?Thank you.
is the body of the floodlightcam made of plastic or metal? does the camera get very warm to touch?
The camera part of the light I think is made of hard plastic but it is robust and you know it is made for outdoors. The light and the base is metal (aluminum?) which is the same as what you see in outdoor fixtures..as to the heat..no it is not warm to the touch...it is barely warm.
Does it have video review that u can see later? Or did u have to buy a cloud service?
You have to get the cloud service to view recorded footage... the subscription fee is way cheaper than other brands...
Would like to see a 5k led bulb. Gives a more modern look, as well as being able to make out objects and faces better
Is there any alternative with free cloud? I find the cloud plan very expensive
Actually, Ring has one of the cheapest subscription on the market today especially if you have multiple cameras and have their alarm system. Only $10/month or $100/year for unlimited camera cloud recording and also professional monitoring of their alarm.
Do you have to be connected to the ring WiFi to view the camera on your phone? What if you are away from home?
No. You just need internet. You view the cameras through the app on your phone. So, you can by anywhere as long as you have internet, you will be able to access the camera(s).
what if you want two or three lights will it still work with that one app
Yes it will. I have 3 cameras and 1 ring chime currently and has no issues...
Do you know if you can have more than one flood light? For example, one in the front and one on the side of the house?
Yes you can. I currently have 4 Ring cameras around the house.
Any delay in detection like the Doorbell? Drives me nuts that I get the mailman walking away. Yes, I've tried all different settings.
They have a different algorithm that they used on the Floodlight camera. I think the camera is always on, so there is no lag time to power up like the Doorbell so when it records motion, it actually starts recording probably 3-4 seconds before the motion alert is triggered. You will notice that on my sample footage - which was a motion alert video that I downloaded directly from the cloud.
TechJPC I hate that delay in detection on the Ring Doorbell. That's why I went with NestCam indoor and Outdoor Camera. I do like the Flood like but I don't like the choppy video and the delay in detection.
I returned the Ring doorbell also due to the same thing you said. I always got a nice shot of the person walking away, but NEVER when they approached; so it was useless since the idea is/was for me to see who is at my door, and not to see only their backside as they were walking away and then it was too late for me to open the app and talk with them.
The pro version has very little delay vs the original.
Cher a Smile: if you use the ring pro or ring 2 doorbell wired you won’t have that problem. Are you using a wired or battery doorbell?
Nice review! How loud is the siren? Can it be heard pretty well by neighbors?
Yes. The siren is loud...not as loud as a car alarm but it will definitely be heard by your neighbors....
AT M
Can't decide between the wired floodlight and the wired spotlight. Which one is better?
Floodlight cam is better just because it has a brighter light. The spotlight is more compact though.
Do you have video during the night view for this camera?
This is with the updated enhanced night vision - ring.com/share/6520356075884309973
Can you get notifications to email? and also can you watch from say google vs your phone? I ask because I always don't have a signal at work on my phone
At this time, you cannot get notifications by email...but you will be able to access your recorded videos at ring.com when you sign in to your account.
Ring is IFTTT compatible. You can get email notification via that
Yes. I just started playing with IFTTT integration and it is pretty cool.
This floodcam has nightvision right? I don't see the abundance of IR leds I'm used to seeing on other cameras with night vision. Even in your video at night, prior to the floodlights turning on, I see the green video indicative of night vision, whereas on my ring floodcam, there does not appear to be this, video is practically pitch black at night. Anyone else experiencing this as well?
Yes the floodlight cam has night vision and yes, there are I think there are 4 red LEDs that you can barely see when at night and when the light is off. If you are watching it via live view, there is bug that occasionally, when you watch via live view or when answering on a notification that the screen just go blank. Ring knows about this issue. Check your recorded videos and it will show you the actual recording. If you see only a black screen, just cancel and try live view again. Hopefully, this helps.
I read in the comments below that there were temperature issues that concerned me. I went to Ring and got the following response that alleviated my concerns.
Our devices will continue working until ❄️ -5 F or 120 F 🔥 (-20 C or 48 C) at which point it will turn itself off to reserve power then turn back on when it warms up or cools down.
Thanks for the info...I've tested it here in the Texas heat...checkout my 2 months review...

All the horrible reviews I've read, I took the time to put in my two cents in. I bought this in October and had a few problems caused by my wifi immediately. All the negative reviews said the support sucks. Well, RING was actually on the spot online and on Facebook, so the bogus, negative reviews must have been by the competition. From the box opening until I set it up - it took 49 minutes. I needed some supplies of my own to install, so I kept going back and forth. It was pretty quick though. No big deal, and I'm not a great handyman either, no experience in this, so if I can do it, you can do it!! But, most of all kudos for the online support and the FB support. Don't believe what you read, they are amazing!! I've had my camera for a few months and found out which dog was diggin in the front yard, and watch my handyman fix stuff outside. The fact that I can turn on the siren and talk is a total bonus. There is a delay because my wifi basically consists of Barney and Fred in a modem out at my farm. I'd completely recommend them and give A+++ to their online, FB and phone support that I've used a few times. Thanks RING!! I'm going to get another one for the back door next!!
I think their customer service is pretty good too...they answer promptly all my questions. Their cameras are pretty good and setup and installation is not that hard...They give you all the tools that are needed for the install.
Teri Orlando, Teri I read your review and thank you for taking the time to do so. I purchased 3 of the floodlight cameras and the Ring Pro Doorbell. The doorbell is not my issue it is the floodlights. I'm by no means an electrician and frankly stay away from it when possible. But in reading your review of 49 minutes give or take running for parts caught my attention. May I ask if you already had floodlights up in the front and back of your home or was it a complete new installation? And I will use the online support or call them If need be as you indicated that they were very helpful. In a nutshell I just wanted maybe a little positive reinforcement from someone who has installed the unit. I know putting the unit up will be no problem it is the electrical work that will keep my eyes open at night. LOL. I would appreciate any feedback that you would be willing to share.
The siren and the audio portion does not work. I just installed. Is there a volume button or an area to activate the sound for the 2 way mic and or the siren?
I heard and seen some people complaining that the speakers stopped working. Get in touch with customer service so that they can help you...
Can the lights be programmed so they only come on with motion after a certain hour? I want to install one of these in the backyard but it's used constantly and I don't want the light flicking on and off all the time.
Doug Findlay yes you can...the motion and light settings has separate scheduling..you can have the motion sensor on and lights off or vice versa on your scheduled time(s)
LifeHackster have you actually tested this and did it work? I cannot get the light settings to stop the light from turning on with motion after dark. It is very annoying when I don't want the light on!
Mike Binder - I'll test it when we get back home - (stranded because of Harvey). But, I checked the app...just go to the motion zones...tap the zone areas and it will say off...so it shouldn't pick up motion and activate the lights...
LifeHackster yes I have done that and it still doesn't work. I have contacted Ring so many times and they are of no help. It is such an important feature that doesn't work!
are the lights replaceable when they burn out?
No they are not. They are LEDs and supposedly they will last for a long time.
The Unifi AP is much better for extending a Wi-Fi range as I have it connected to my router by Ethernet so Wi-Fi signal above garage is excellent
Yes...access points are way better than extenders...
@@LifeHackster With unifi you can create a mesh network - its like extenders but more efficient.
What kind of lights does it use. Doesn't look like standard flood bulbs would fit
They are LED lights and they are not replaceable. Ring states that the lights should outlast the camera themselves.
I'm curious to see how this flood light is holding up after almost a year of use and being outside.
Still holding strong...I’ll be doing a 1 year review next month..
does anyone know if this camera have any blind spots? we just got one for our house, and I honestly feel like people can just walk with their backs on the wall and get away with it. we also have little animals like cats that walk in and out of our backyard, does it pick up the movements of them as well?
has* sorry
As to blind spots...No. You can always adjust it to see everything you need to monitor. It has a 140 degree field of view. It can get triggered with animals but you can always adjust the setting to only pick up movements of people.
LifeHackster thank you so much!! our camera was set up on a side wall, because we have a huge backyard and a garage, so we were concerned about people slipping by, most people probably has their’s by the front door, so that wouldn’t be a problem
can you mount to a ceiling instead of on the wall, thanks in advance
Yes you can. - ua-cam.com/video/9MRqF-9QVYU/v-deo.html
I installed mine and never had a problem installing it. Captures everything thing on video. Can’t believe how busy the street is in the front. It’s easy to adjust for less sensitivity,
They really need to make a lantern version that turns on with motion detection, for the front door. Cause the doorbell sucks for some people, and the stickup cam is using their old technology.
I have the original doorbell and its motion detection and settings are way inferior than the flood light camera. I had this for almost 2 weeks and it is pretty accurate in detecting motion.
How many amps does it need if you connect ac/dc outlet on it
The Floodlight camera can only be hardwired. It doesn't have a plug and it will run on your house's AC electrical current.
Is there away when at night when looking at live view not to have the floodlights turn on? Seems that it always turns on when I'm on the app looking at the live view. The night view looks to be fine, but I don't always want it to trigger the floodlights.
Mine doesn't do that. I can watch live view without the floodlights turning on. Try adjusting the sensitivity.
@@LifeHackster I think it it the app on the IOS platform. I tried it with my Android Tablet and Microsoft App and it seems to only be happening on my Apple phone when using the app.
Looks like it has been fixed with the latest app update.
Such a nice home to have a hideous floodlight on the front. I guess function over style.
Lol...It actually doesn't look that bad...
LifeHackster that's a relative thought. I think it looks awful on a nice house.
Is there any issues if you hardwire without a light switch?
I don't think there will be a problem. It will actually be better because you will not accidentally turn off the camera because of the switch.
hopefully in a year from now it still works
Do you need an existing floodlight in order to install the Ring Floodlight outdoor camera system?
No you don't have to but you will need a power supply and at least a junction box so as to safely tuck in your connections. Ring recommends an electrician to get involved if you don't have an existing junction box.
Thank you so so very much for responding. Getting an electrician seems to be an added cost to one already paying $250 for a unit but I will look into that. As well as looking into seeing what Nest have to offer in comparison :)
You are welcome.
Wish I knew this before I bought it
how much is the cloud service in canada a month/ year?
I really don't know..I'm from the US. The best way is to get in touch with them at Ring.com
Can this work with batteries? I don’t have wires
I can say please done buy floodlight cam this. I have installed it and was working fine couple of months and then started giving problem like if we turned the light on from the app then I can not turned the lifhr off from the app. when i turned off it geting off but in few seconds it stated on . I called so many time to ring people but they dont know how to resolve the issue.and tired with customer support and they said we can replace it but that is not proper resolution. as it was replaced before but same thing. I have electrician two time to check voltage and power in that. network also very strong. but same thing. finally decided to install regular flood light and for came going to netgear arlo. I want to say every buddy buy alro for yard came not a ring product.
Luckily, I haven't had any problems yet on mine..3 months and still working great...even with the Texas heat...I was checking Arlo too but seems like it has a lot of negative reviews also..like delayed recording...
Can the LED lights be replaced if it burns down?
No. Ring stated that the LED will last longer than the flood light camera itself.
I just installed my and it was super easy. I'm having issues connecting it to the wifi. I have the router above the floodlight cam and I have perfect connection on my iphone but for some reason it's still not connecting to the app.
Any suggestions?
Make sure your wifi is 2.4 GHz. It will not connect to a 5 Ghz Wifi.
Crap, I always had it to 5 Ghz, thank you so much. I will try it today
Most newer routers will have both 2.4 and 5. You will not be able to setup the Ring Floodlight with 5 Ghz. When you are prompted to choose the WiFi you are going to use, the 5 Ghz Wifi band will not come up. The black screen issue is an ongoing problem which I don't know if Ring is addressing it. It only happens during an alert and the Live view will only have a black screen. Now, the footage is still being recorded though and when you view it later on, the video will be there..
I have Ring doorbell and already pay for cloud storage. Would i have to pay more for the floodlight cam or is the storage included in my doorbell storage?
Cornish Drone Scapes - it will be extra if you got the per camera $3.00/month fee..if you have the protect plus which is $10/month or $100/year then it is for unlimited cameras.
Where did you get the case for your iphone?
I got it from Best Buy long time ago...I actually have upgraded my Iphone and have a different case now.
LifeHackster would you sell it to me?
Sorry, I don't have it anymore.
Can you use that button in the app to force the lights to stay on 24,7 ? (i.e. if I am working in the driveway and want light on me without having to wave my hands every 5minutes)
Also, Ring keeps talking about smart zoom and pan- can you touch on that ? I'm guessing it just means it is a digital zoom and then you can pan around after the digital zoom is activated.
Yes, you can turn on the lights manually through the app and it will remain on until you turn it off. As to the zoom/pan, it is digital..just pinch in and out to zoom and hold and drag to pan.
Thanks !
say you capture someone breaking in. How do you save the video for the investigation? Or is that part of the subscription fee? Nicely done. thanks for sharing.
You can easily download video to your smartphone using the app or you can log in to your account at ring.com using your computer and you can download the video(s) from there. Yes you will need to sign up for their cloud service to be able to view and download footage. Hopefully, this helps.
i dony want to subscribe to the cloud. im lookibg for somethibg similar but no subscription is needed. know of any item?
At this time, we have limited choices for outdoor cameras that has no cloud recording option. I have one though a Yi camera which records on an SD card that I mated with an outdoor mount...Here is my video of it - ua-cam.com/video/Z0V3hgD9fjY/v-deo.html
how much
$249
Does this have a place to install memory chip to view recorded content later without having to pay a monthly fee?
No, it doesn't.
LifeHackster which ones offer the memory chip?
As to security cameras indoors, there are a lots of them..like the Yi Home cameras, Wyze cam and Reolink Argus for a weatherproof and battery powered one.
LifeHackster I was looking for an outdoor one with the chip. I seen another video you had where one or two of them you reviewed had offered them. I was looking at Nest, Ring and Arlo and thought one of those had it.
i love this siren but is loud lifeHackster
