    That basement scene cracks me up every time. Sid Caesar was at his best here, one of the greatest comedians of all time. RIP Sid, and thank you sir.

    OMG, I so love the end of this montage where Sid, after incessantly trying to convince his beautiful wife to buy into his hare-brained schemes, suddenly develops second thoughts and gets scared. The way he dives into her lap like a petrified little kid is truly priceless and speaks volumes about the power dynamic between these two.

      You definitely said it! So funny. I think every single scene in this movie is superb- but this scene, in fact the entire scene from its start is just too much! I can seriously watch this movie a million times and because the last time I watched it, I was so busy laughing too hard at the other scene, I didn’t come up for air in time to catch the next one because I was still getting over how hilarious the previous scene was, and here comes another whopper! It’s one of the reasons besides many, why this movie is so incredibly funny, but not just funny.-it’s purely a labor of love that one can sense when watching this movie. Every person involved in this, was 100% IN. You can feel it as you go along with these hysterical people on a very long ( thank goodness!) ride! You’re just absorbed in that craziness with them. But not just-them- as actors, but them as people who are having the blast of their lives ,and we can see that. You just KNOW they had the best time making this masterpiece. It’s more than a really funny movie. It’s a real adventure too for the viewer.Really fun. If you have never seen this movie ,please do yourself a huge favor and watch it-but be warned: you will never laugh this hard at a movie again. I envy those who’ve never seen this yet because they get to see it for the first time and will never forget it. If you watch it again- sometimes in full, other times just a scene or two you will understand why it’s so enduring. Have fun. I know you will . 😊

    In the scene where Sid Caesar is hitting the door with the sledge hammer he and the grips got into a contest because Sid kept knocking the door down after a few swings. The grips finally put up a steel girder and Sid couldn't get through it.

    I'm probably alone in this regard (as most thought IAMMMMW was too long as it was), but I would've loved to have seen an entire prequel, sequel (or preferably both) devoted to "The Crumps." Apart from Spencer Tracy's "Captain Culpeper," Sid's "Melville" was by far the most nuanced, complex character in the film -- if not the laugh-out-loud funniest. (That honor, IMHO, was shared between Johnny Winters & Ethel Merman.) But Sid & Edie made a *very* attractive couple & it would've been fun to explore their characters' backstories. (Perhaps b/c they drove a station wagon, I always imagined they had at least a coupla kids -- who were probably nearly grown @ the time the film was set -- and that's why Melville & Monica were finally able to take a "second honeymoon." My suspicion is that they probably never had a first - in fact, I always imagined that Melville inadvertently knocked up Monica back in the day & that her whole family always treated him like a big loser -- that would've explained his character being at once comically pompous & plaintively insecure. The whole "Why can't ya hava little confidence in me?!" line gets me every time b/c there's really a lot of pathos behind it -- which, again, could have been the genesis for a whole other film.)

      My other favorite IAMMMMW line (also from Sid/Melville) is "This thing has gotta woyk!" Honestly, I say that to myself *multiple* times each day, LOL. Thanks so much again for posting, Gart Williams!!!

    Sid Caesar’s role of Melville Crump was originally set to be played by Ernie Kovacs, who was Edie Adams’ husband at the time, but was killed in a car crash before filming began.

    Fun Fact: The role of Melville Crump was going to be for Ernie Kovacs, but he died before filming began. And so, Sid Caesar took his place.

    Remembering Sid Caesar born on September 8, 1922. He was an American comic actor and writer. With a career spanning 60 years, Caesar was considered a sketch comic and actor, as opposed to a stand-up comedian. - en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sid_Caesar

      Edie was obviously going through a terrible time, having just lost her husband (the great Ernie Kovacs, who was originally supposed to play Sid's role). That said, I got the impression from later interviews that she and Sid had a blast working together, notwithstanding the extremely awkward and difficult circumstances. And they did have great chemistry here -- you could really see them as a bickering but ultimately loving married couple . . . and I always wanted them to win the money!

      I think that Mrs Finch and Mrs Crump are the 2 most sensible characters in the movie. I could not put up with Mrs Finch's loud and obnoxious mother Mrs Marcus. So I would choose the Crumps.

    • @lisaborsella5412
      @lisaborsella5412 Рік тому +1

      The Clumps definitely. It’s funny because I actually have asked that same question to myself and other people who I introduced to this movie. It’s the funniest movie ever made period. Most people identify with Pike. Probably because he’s a decent, blue collar guy, minding his own honest business, and… well, we know the rest.They were all law abiding citizens, until money had to ruin it. Lol. I always loved Melville and Monica most . I actually identify with Melvilles character more than anyone, although every single character, scene, line, is sheer perfection. Why doesn’t anyone mention the couple who were just mozying ( I have never had to spell this word, although I have said it often enough!😂) and here come these lunatics to run them off the road and into a ravine, totally messing up their lives and plans. After their truck, which is loaded to the hilt with everything they own, is forced off the road , and they lose everything on it, the look on their faces is probably one of the funniest scenes no one mentions. What does the husband say after they land at a stop and everything is beyond ruined? He says - I said it before and I’ll say it again…I didn’t want to move to California. So funny. To this day, I still find something I might have missed the previous times I have watched this movie ( yes many times. Lost count.) to laugh at. What am I going on about? The entire thing is perfect! And everyone in it! Hey.. I have an idea.. let’s watch it again! Thank you again for posting.
