What I like about this scene was that it established Bart's character pretty well. In that he is basically a live action Bugs Bunny. Which is awesome as I always wanted to be like Bugs Bunny when I grow up but unable to due to my race. Which is human; Bugs is a rabbit. So I am glad that they cast a human for the role of Bart instead of a rabbit, which really makes this film ahead of its time.
@@Ejexion Upon re-reading this 5 years later, I have to say that I 100% stand by what I said regarding the producer casting a human for the role of Bart instead of a cartoon animal.
They must have been in tears writing this movie! We look at it today from our perspective, ignoring the fact that this was in 1972! We are shocked when someone has some off collar remark in a meme. This was a whole movie about mocking stereotypes less than 5 years after MLK was killed and he riots across the nation. To put it into context, it would be like having a comedy about 9/11 in 2006. These writers, which included Richard Pryor, must have been scared to death and cracking up at the same time! My brothers and I watched this movie 13 times straight while in a hotel room in Vegas as kids. My parents were livid by the movie charges on the bill. (No, my great aunt was not Dutch but we look like Sheriff Bart! LOL!) Best movie ever!
I don't understand why people say this all the time. All the racist jokes told in this movie are told at the expense of the white people telling them. It never endorses those viewpoints. If the movie was made today, the uproar wouldn't be about the racism. It would be about how unfunny it is compared to the genius of Mel Brooks.
Yeah, I know what you mean. I laughed so hard and so much through this movie. These days you'd have so many people offended. I posted on Facebook about how funny this movie is and I lost like 5 friends over it.
I liked it later in the movie when Charlie was excited to see Bart after he became sheriff, and said , " They said you was hung !" And Bart said , " They would be right !" But I think my favorite line was , " Never mind that shit ! Here comes Mongo !"
I think this movie was supposed to be more than a comedy. It shows the faults of mankind in a silly way. Us watching it, its hilarious and ridiculous the things we humans do to each other because of greed, lust, pride, and all that other stuff ( talk about rape, animal rape, ku klux klan, N-word, hitler..) as we look at it from a "higher" point of view. Maybe i'm thinking too hard about it, maybe someone will go off on my in a comment soon to come, but i don't care... i felt i should say that.
We can't change history and the stupid ugliness of some people, but Mel got real close with this movie.............I'm still laughing at it in 2020......
Where oh where did our sense of humor go?? I guess it left with "reality" shows and wokeness. The fact that people nowadays are offended by this satirical gem proves that the evil hates being mocked.
The fact we cant have comedy like this anymore shows our digression i believe in multi culture so much so we should be able to take the piss out of one another just like this film all in the name of banter. Smh
Which song? You mean, "I Get A Kick Out of You"? That's an old Cole Porter song from the 30's. Pretty much everyone's covered it already, from Sinatra to Sesame Street.
Kyle Edwards No I meant the exact version they sing in the movie. I like his voice a lot and the speed that they sing the song is better than Sinatra's in my opinion.
I wasn't aware of the racism when I was a kid. I assumed that the guy in red was very kind to sing for the workers. I think it was because the actor was really a nice guy. He gives off that vibe.
Political correctness killed most but the brave comediennes and film makers...Duhh...Gene and Richard were buddies and Gene wasn't a racist..but society will only allow so much...so use IRONEY.... that's how you make a point... like this song...it's sung by the Cowboys...to those its lost on....like Mr T says.."I pity the fool" :)
Cole Porter versus Stephen Foster. Right. You cannot make this film today. The PC's would rip it to shreds. More precisely, Mel Brooks could not make this movie now. Spike Lee might. But I think he knows Mel got it right the first time. An absolute classic.
The lines in this scene is hilarious!!! This movie is so funny all throughout! Thank God Mel Brooks made this politically incorrect because the way everything is being remade these days, this movie is one of the ones they will stay away from. I can't even imagine how bad a remake of this would be...
By far, this is one of the greatest movies in the history of movies!
I would have to agree!
One of the greatest comedies of all times.
A BLM favorite I might add.
Movie? This is a documentary! And the events, HAPPENED IN REAL TIME....
I can’t find this online anywhere and it’s one of my most favourite films ever, not WOKE 🤨
RIP gene and cleavon legends. Mel brooks still goin strong at 90 respect
Now he's 91 and still going.
Now he is 95 and still going😍
Burton Gilliam is still alive. He's the white guy in this clip.
Thank you for not ruining this clip by cutting it to pieces.
You could not have said it more sweetly. Few people will ever realize how talented Cleavon Little was.
and incredibly handsome🙂

Go ahead and re-read this now that you're older.

I loved that movie. Too bad they cannot make them like that anymore.
yeah literally. cities would burn in this day and age. timeless treasure.

Keegan. MOV Now who can argue with that?

Then they weren't friends.
Mel Brooke's certainly nailed it when he made this movie.
Cleavon Little deserved an Oscar for this performance!
What in the wide wide world of sports is a goin on here!
Dancing around like a bunch of Kansas City faggots.
"Crimes?"
"Stampeding cattle."
"That's not much of a crime."
"Through the Vatican."
"Kinky. Sign here."
Would today's generation catch that pun. Or do they know what the Vatican is?
One of Mel Brooks BEST,Richard Pryor was a Writer on BLAZING SADDLES!!!!!!!!!!
all been said...this is one of the best films ever made...shame on what gets offered up nowadays
Slim Pickens FTW. This whole movie is genius.
When it comes to Mel Brooks, no race was safe lol
I know! Every race was picked on!
What I like about this is, yeah it has racial humor, but it mainly makes fun of the racists.
😸👍
I liked it later in the movie when Charlie was excited to see Bart after he became sheriff, and said , " They said you was hung !" And Bart said , " They would be right !" But I think my favorite line was , " Never mind that shit ! Here comes Mongo !"
Had to go back to the cinema a few days later to catch all the jokes missed because of raucous laughing from the audience- fabulous film
hands down best movie ever
It's funny because today you can't do this but clearly Brooks made sure the white guy was the real ass.
Slim Pickens is classic lol

Best example of reverse psychology. Brilliant and guess what it hasn't turned me into a racist. 😂
hey, hollywood, i notice you're not remaking this movie....
Who could do it and be so funny? Only Mel Brooks.
I wish Hedey Lamar had gotten a chance to sing, what's a good movie without a villain song?
I wasn't aware of the racism when I was a kid. I assumed that the guy in red was very kind to sing for the workers. I think it was because the actor was really a nice guy. He gives off that vibe.

Of COURSE this movie could be made today. Satire is satire. Trouble is, MAGA would consider it a documentary.

Mel Brooks gave no fucks, lol.
that's because people don't know how to laugh at anything anymore.
Cole Porter versus Stephen Foster. Right. You cannot make this film today. The PC's would rip it to shreds. More precisely, Mel Brooks could not make this movie now. Spike Lee might. But I think he knows Mel got it right the first time. An absolute classic.
There would be no Cole Porter without Stephen Foster.
Where’s the bloody sound!!! 🤬

This movie is truly great. I wish we could go back to a time when people weren't so "SJW" and could just have fun.
Blazing Saddles is the most SJW film ever. It's just that some people don't register that.
@@chezellis Yup. And those people are just simple farmers. People of the land. The common clay of the new West. You know... Morons.
Surprised that people haven't tried to get this movie totally erased from history just due to the use of the N word
I am surprised the SJW's have not had all copies burned.
