    This is the funniest sh** I’ve watched in a long time. 69 years ago and it’s still funny. When something is funny, it’s funny forever. The “dancing” segment is a riot. 😂

    Sid said in an interview that this was based on a 3 piece doo wop group they saw at a supper club. Their hair and jewelry were over the top. Sid & Co got inspired and inflated the look even more.

      I thought maybe it was a takeoff on the Crew-Cuts (Sh-Boom). They were a quartet, so I guess I was wrong.

    Today we found out that the great Carl Reiner passed. This clip proves how funny he was along with Sid and Howard. Thank you Carl. Laughing and crying.

    Ashamedly, my dad was a hardcore antisemite. But he never missed an episode of Sid Caesar’s Show of Shows while enjoying the entire hour. He was aware of Sid’s religion,but never uttered a bigoted word about him. Maybe this illustrates that bigotry must be consciously manifested.

    Once again, as with most Sid Caesar sketches, this had me falling out of my chair laughing, especially during his “tap dance”!

    This was a beautiful send up of the up and coming rock and roll phenomenon...actually it was about a year before Elvis Presley really exploded on the national scene...so it shows how Sid and company were on top of things...finally one thing that is so impressive for me is the incredible physicality of the wondrous Carl Reiner...check him out starting at the 4:00 minute mark...he looks like he is flying!

      They all showed amazing physical energy and endurance, as so many of their sketches involved physical comedy. I have to say the energetic dance you noted makes Carl look more like a flapping chicken than a gracefully soaring bird to me, though! ;-)

    This is wild! One would not really think of this kind of (what? doo-wop...Italian Rock and Roll...I dunno) of act so early in the rock and roll era. Like a poster before me said, Sid and company were really on top of things. Could this be a send up of the "Johnnie Ray" type as much as rock and roll? Thanks for these uploads, Really getting into Caesar!

    Did either _Caesar's Hour_ or _Your Show of Shows_ ever feature any real rock and roll acts?

    • @sidcaesaryourshowofshowsca2250
      @sidcaesaryourshowofshowsca2250  7 років тому +1

      I'm not sure about Caesar's Hour, but YSOS didn't really. There was a lot of jitterbug dancing--by Sid and Imogene as well as the stock dancers! But that's just as much '40s and early '50s as rock and roll. I remember one kind of feeble attempt on the part of a dance duo to do a kind of rock and roll, but it came across as more C&W! --kjh

    Brilliant satire. Unlike that dreadful mean-spiritedness of SNL that passes for satire these days, this showed appreciation for its subject … burgeoning rock and roll … but can stand alone as timeless great comedy.
