This is the funniest sh** I’ve watched in a long time. 69 years ago and it’s still funny. When something is funny, it’s funny forever. The “dancing” segment is a riot. 😂
Sid said in an interview that this was based on a 3 piece doo wop group they saw at a supper club. Their hair and jewelry were over the top. Sid & Co got inspired and inflated the look even more.
Today we found out that the great Carl Reiner passed. This clip proves how funny he was along with Sid and Howard. Thank you Carl. Laughing and crying.
Ashamedly, my dad was a hardcore antisemite. But he never missed an episode of Sid Caesar’s Show of Shows while enjoying the entire hour. He was aware of Sid’s religion, but never uttered a bigoted word about him. Maybe this illustrates that bigotry must be consciously manifested.
This was a beautiful send up of the up and coming rock and roll phenomenon...actually it was about a year before Elvis Presley really exploded on the national scene...so it shows how Sid and company were on top of things...finally one thing that is so impressive for me is the incredible physicality of the wondrous Carl Reiner...check him out starting at the 4:00 minute mark...he looks like he is flying!
+daniel lack They all showed amazing physical energy and endurance, as so many of their sketches involved physical comedy. I have to say the energetic dance you noted makes Carl look more like a flapping chicken than a gracefully soaring bird to me, though! ;-)
Not only was comic genius Sid one year ahead of his time regarding Elvis Presley, Sid was also NINE years ahead of his time regarding The Beatles and THEIR iconic haircuts!!
Does anyone have a recording to the Haircuts' singing "Aggravation. You treat me like a swine. But Aggravation, Oh won't you please be mine?" If so, please post it here
This is wild! One would not really think of this kind of (what? doo-wop...Italian Rock and Roll...I dunno) of act so early in the rock and roll era. Like a poster before me said, Sid and company were really on top of things. Could this be a send up of the "Johnnie Ray" type as much as rock and roll? Thanks for these uploads, Really getting into Caesar!

Showing the craziness, nuttiness and nonsense of the beginning of rock and roll that led to a generation of screamers, pig callers and instrument bashers right to the insanity of today!
I'm not sure about Caesar's Hour, but YSOS didn't really. There was a lot of jitterbug dancing--by Sid and Imogene as well as the stock dancers! But that's just as much '40s and early '50s as rock and roll. I remember one kind of feeble attempt on the part of a dance duo to do a kind of rock and roll, but it came across as more C&W! --kjh
Brilliant satire. Unlike that dreadful mean-spiritedness of SNL that passes for satire these days, this showed appreciation for its subject … burgeoning rock and roll … but can stand alone as timeless great comedy.
There has to be some recognition of the Brilliance of Howard Morris!!
* Indeed Howie created Jet Screamer with this sketch! ☺
amazingly he was a classically trained shakespearean actor until he met carl.
@@ricmarc7156 ... and then became a classically trained comic nut! Originally from Cumming Street in Inwood, Manhattan.
Too true. He is perfect in every sketch. Committed.
Uncle Goopy rules!
When I need a break from today’s reality, I always turn to the haircuts to lift myself up and brighten my day !
Me, too!

I thought maybe it was a takeoff on the Crew-Cuts (Sh-Boom). They were a quartet, so I guess I was wrong.
Nearly 20 years after this aired and it’s still hilarious. Simply timeless comedy.

Awesome. The Haircuts were beyond approach!
The energy in this is simply overpowering. Oh, and so is the comedy. This is a masterpiece.
The true measure on comedy entertainment is the genuine fun and laughter it provides.
They are absolutely funny men.
This makes me laugh so hard. This side is selling more than tbe other side. Lol
They crack me up over and over
GOLDEN TIMES in Television.
RIP Carl. Your genius will be missed.
So rilly rare, to me. I gotta be rare.
This was probably one of the most funniest thing since ever seen in MY life!!
It's me, it's Ernest T.
I love at 4:40 when Sid is doing that long one foot tap and his foot isn't moving, we just hear the tapping sound.
This show aired years before my birth but every time I see this sketch it STILL makes me laugh!
An incredible performance in itself! The show itself showcased four geniuses, written by geniuses….😅😂😅
Oh my goodness, I read the comments that’s Howard Morris! Ernest T Bass! Wow! Who knew! Love it!
Sid tap dancing is funny shit!😂😂
Carl is the most INSANE

Once again, as with most Sid Caesar sketches, this had me falling out of my chair laughing, especially during his “tap dance”!

God that is hilarious They were gutsy guys on live TV. I've seen it before and it's always great
why did I keep watching this? oh yea.... cause it's funny!!
So this is where break dancing came from.
My parents bought the 78 record that had “So Rare” and “Going Crazy” by the Three Haircuts.
Does anyone have a recording to the Haircuts' singing "Aggravation. You treat me like a swine. But Aggravation, Oh won't you please be mine?"

Most definitely a send-up of Johnny Ray! Glad you're enjoying the sketches! ----kjh
I think I see Earnest T. Bass.
Yes, 2 great hits but "Flippin" also has dancing which adds to the singing and so it reaches even higher.
is that "Ernest T Bass" from the Andy Griffith Show at the end?
Yup
YES
Not only was comic genius Sid one year ahead of his time regarding Elvis Presley, Sid was also NINE years ahead of his time regarding The Beatles and THEIR iconic haircuts!!
Wow, the energy of those 3 could power a city

lampooning the latest music for the yought. a timesless skit for the ages...
I wish I could tap like that. Thank you.
I'm watching this after seeing Freddie bell and the bell boys in rock around the clock, try it yourself.
* And decades later Eric Idle similarly brilliantly parodied the Beatles with the Rutles ... ☺
Your comment:
down like a lead balloon.
True-who cares. But "brilliantly"??
An incredible spoof on rock n roll
It represent the invasion of amateurs msusicians into the music scene in the 50s.. The children are still in charge.
Rythms and laughs
Hello Jessica how are you doing hope you’re having a great time with your family may God bless you and your family
This is live tv. Most of the TV shows were then. Just saying.
Ernest T 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Break dancing in 1954 at 3:46
They could have been bigger than elvis
Did either _Caesar's Hour_ or _Your Show of Shows_ ever feature any real rock and roll acts?
I'm not sure about Caesar's Hour, but YSOS didn't really. There was a lot of jitterbug dancing--by Sid and Imogene as well as the stock dancers! I THOUGHT Howard Morris was the PROFESSOR!😮 Professor LITTLE OLD MAN!
Lillomann LILLOMANN!!! 🤓😎✌🏼
That routine that Carl did was extremely hard to do. Man that would give anybody a heart attack!
Brilliant satire. Unlike that dreadful mean-spiritedness of SNL that passes for satire these days, this showed appreciation for its subject … burgeoning rock and roll … but can stand alone as timeless great comedy.
Can't stand that rock-n-roll rubbish!
