I’m glad you are posting vids again Man. Hope your holiday was cool. Two clutches in 21k miles, did I hear that right?!? My wife’s truck had 200k and the clutch was still fine! What gives?
@@pistonbroke I was thinking that exact thing. I have a 2012 Toyota aygo with 105,000 miles and still have the original clutch. I was thinking it's maybe time to change it as there doesn't really seem to be much of a biting point anymore and I'm convinced it's pretty close to slipping with the clutch engaged. I don't think it helps that I've recently been driving a brand new car as a courtesy car (it was literally less then 1 month old). I'm convinced that car had an electronic clutch though 😅 (it didn't disengage when the engine was off but still felt exactly the same to press, I only found out when I tried to roll it down the drive, I ended up having to force it out of gear as the clutch wasn't operating and the car had rolled and put pressure on the gear making it hard to shift to neutral). It was the 1L Hyundai i20 mhev (6 speed manual).
I knew a guy who was a builder used to drive his van with his left leg resting on the clutch pedal. He burnt out about four or five clutches in no time. But he knew what he was doing wrong.❤😂
Happy new year to you too. 2 clutches in 21,000 miles - incredible. And she wasn't aware of anything wrong - scary. Time to cut her losses and buy an auto surely? I feel your pain with the radio - I was subjected to a morning of Radio One a while back, I felt like killing myself.
Time for an auto maybe... However, sometimes it's too late for them to learn to adapt.... On the plus side, least it all comes apart easily as been done recently! Happy New Year any how
They never believe you when you say it's how they're driving it. Seen this so many times and their answer is always the same "I've been driving for 100 years bla bla bla"
Cracking video, top bloke. Only part I didn't quite get was what you were using the hammer for round the top of the bellhousing after the clutch was installed... tapping the starter into place? Liked and subscribed.
I was tapping the gear cable retaining clips into place. Took me ages to find out what you meant because I didn't tap anything after fitting the clutch, it was after I fitted the gearbox.
Thanks for the video. I bit the bullet and did the clutch replacement myself. It's all back together but it won't fire up. Starter's spinning but nothing happening. Any advice what it might be? Cheers.
Without having the car in front of me it's difficult to say but if the starter spins but the engine doesn't, then the first place I'd look is the starter motor. Is it in properly?
It is turning the engine and it seems to nearly cough sometimes. Someone suggested checking the earth and other wiring that was removed. It's almost like an immobiliser's kicked in - have they got one?
Right ok. I take the crank sensor out to avoid damage when removing and refitting the gearbox, did you take it out? If not then I'd suggest you do and have a look at it.
After several conversations reassuring me that I wasn't breaking anything and rechecking all the connections, I just turned the starter over for ages and it eventually reluctantly started up! Now it's running fine. So, no panic after all. Thanks for your time.
I never use one, never have. I've always done it by eye. In over 30 years of doing this I've never failed to get a gearbox back in due to a missaligned clutch.
Was it me are are the gearboxes heavy in them? We have an Aygo and it need two clutches in 40k, fitted the Blue Print one now like the owners club recommend and no problem 30k later. The clutches from the cars leaving the factory are utter crap and its a common problem in all the city bugs
My Toyota Aygo MMT had got new clutch a month ago . It drives fine now, but start ti make squeking and whistling noise when accilarating. High pitch noise, could be heard from out side. The noise only comes when car is engaged in gear and running. Not in neutral. What could be the reason pls.?
The first gen c1, 107 and Aygo from 2006 were the ones with the weak clutches that the clutch cover straps were breaking and failing on, as the clutch plate was not large enough to cope. So they upgraded the clutches to a larger diameter friction plate from about 2009 onwards, using the same clutch kit that was used in the Yaris. I have a 2007 C1, and managed to get mine to last till about 60,000 miles before the clutch cover straps had broken, and on getting a new blueprint clutch kit to fit, found out that the kits have been upgraded to cope with having a larger diameter friction plate same as used in the 1.0 Yaris.
Good to see you back mate, wish you all the best for 2023.
Cheers mate.
@@pistonbroke now that's a bad case of riding the clutch the driver needs some lessons or just a big wallet. Great video 👍

It's how its driven. Drive it properly and the clutch will easily do over 100,000 miles

That flywheel looked like it got hot with "hard spots"
You’ve never lived, until you’ve ridden a clutch 😀😏
Ha ha ha that's funny 🤣
Thanks Steve great vid, happy new year to you too

I can't stand that radio station with all that 80's shit day in day out.
@@pistonbrokeRadio two with Steve Wright unbeatable ❤😂

Hi Steve great video, realistically how long did it take to replace the clutch , thanks
About 2½ hours I think
Very best wishes for 2023 Michael Edinburgh
Sorry you are right 👍 must cost her a fortune

Good vid, thanks! What's roughly the weight of that gearbox please?
Aint got a clue. It's not that heavy, you could lift it on your own easily enough.
Good job on the clutch. Easier with the lift.❤😂

How come you didnt use a clutch alignment tool?
I never use one, never have. I've always done it by eye. In over 30 years of doing this I've never failed to get a gearbox back in due to a missaligned clutch.

What would be really good, is if you could do more voiceovers on videos and to speak about the steps a lot more in-depth :)
Yeah ok I can do that. Cheers for the input.

Must be you. They're not heavy.
No lift and doing on a driveway didnt help @@pistonbroke
how much time u spend on it
About 3 hours or so

I wouldn't have a clue what's wrong with it without seeing the car for myself.
Thanks, where are you based pls?
That's shocking 2 clutches in 21 k miles, will never go for that type of car , nice to see you by l
It's not the car. It's the driver.
No they last 100.000 it's been ridden to death.
I had same car with 110k and had no clutch issues only issues was exhaust rusted quickly and I'm miles from the sea
Happy new year buddy, I thought they had fixed that problem with a stronger clutch
Happy new year. It's not a problem with the clutch, it's how the owner drives it.

👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
The elderly love revving the nuts out of a car and slipping the clutch.
Because they can't hear the engine.
2:28 can't see what your doing ...
Stop riding the clutch at traffic lights der................people sit all day waiting while the gear is engaged
I’ve known clutches fail at less than a thousand miles when I was in the trade. Like you say it’s how you drive the vehicle.
Best one I've seen is a brand new car with 190 miles on it recovered in with a burnt out clutch.
Owner must be a right bad driver, both of mine got to almost 100000 before they started to judder a bit.
Some lady is reving the nuts out of that thing when driving from a stand still
I know, seen her do it. I've put another clutch in it a couple of weeks ago.
Tel her to invest in a bus pass !!!!!
