Thanks alot! it helped me replace the clutch of my 2013 aygo with the semi-automatic transmission (mmt) with no experience what so ever.
It took me multiple days, working 2-3 hours a day.
Things you need to consider as a beginner:
    - If you're not planning to do other diy stuff to the car, you don't have any tools and want the cheapest option ... sending it to a workshop maybe the best option because it's almost the same price as the tools and is less pain.
    - Invest in good tools (ratchet wrenches are a musthave).
    - If it has been a long time that someone worked on your car, consider buying anti-rust spray. It will help with the rusty stuck nuts and bolts.
    - You don't have to remove the axle shafts entirely. Just remove them from the transmission side.
    For semi automatic transmission:
    - You need to put clutch actuator module to clamp position before proceeding to change the clutch (important! Google 'clap mode toyota mmt' and you'll find the documentation).
    - Doing the upper transmission bolts from above (engine bay) is easier. For that you have to remove the battery tray and the clutch actuator.
    - When reinstalling the clutch actuator back make sure it's in the most left position (towards the engine) to avoid any troubles reinitiating the clutch actuator and resetting the tcu.

watch another vid, and the guy was forever blocking the view of what he was doing. this vid is great info and I will follow it when I replace my clutch. I was quoted £550 for the job, and I know they use QH parts, which I can get for £56. I might have to buy axle stands and an alignment tool , but even if I spend £100 on tools and parts, I will still save £450. last car clutch I did was 30 years ago

I have change my clutch over the last weekend. I was expecting i t to be much easier - because of the engine size. I had couple of problems and couple of tools I had to go and buy when I needed them. Gearbox grew together to engine and it took 2 crowbars and alot of force to separete it. Summary: It took longer than expected (a car lift would be handy) as axle jacks are a bit low. Video is well detailed and got everything you need to get it done.

      Hi there
Was that the generation of astra that the clutch could be changed on without removing the gearbox?
They sound quite interesting id be interested to see one of those to see how it worked, and why they stopped using that system.
What way did the original mini or other BL sump in gearbox cars work.
This method on the aygo it just seems to be the norm for most transverse arrangements. While it seems a lot its not the worst either.

@@peugeotCitroen2CV, your spot on, there was a panel you could remove between th gearbox and engine and you accees it fairly easily. Bit fiddly but nothing compared to this clutch change. I wonder why they didnt do this for all 0 certainly make life easier for a consumable part.

@@peugeotCitroen2CV It was around 30 yrs ago, so cant rememebr, all i do remeber was it was a right old fiddle (but not a mass of work like this job), it seem to come out quite easily, but rememebr struggling to get it back in, having to move stuff (maybe the cable connection) and then line it up, I spent hours on it to no avail, had a tea/cigarette break and when I went back at it, it all sliped togeather quite nicely. Back then (not now) knowing what I knew after, the next astra clucth would have been a quick. All lost to time and the ageing grey matter

Thanks for the helpful video. I just replaced the clutch of a 2007 Aygo which had really sticky, stiff, gear changing. I suspected theclutch and the problem seemed quite obvious as two of the three lamellas which are holding the pressure plate in the clutch hub were broken. So the pressure plate could jiggle and not open the clutch exactly.
To aid the refitting of the gearbox I made stud of a M12x1.25 (70mm long), cut the head off and screwed it in place of the lower front gearbox bolt. Lifted the gearbox and aligned first the corresponding mount hole with the stud and using that as support aligned the gearbox and pushed it in place. I was doing the work pretty low on axle stands.

I had the same problem with 36k mls, it had started to slip, and the biting point was right at the end of the pedal. Once discovering the clutch in these is not self adjusting, I adjusted the cable, lowered the biting point, problem solved completely.

Happy days, yes they are quite rudimentary in how the clutch works. Funny to see a modern car that still has a cable operated clutch most are hydraulic but when it works i suppose it does a reasonable job.

    • @peugeotCitroen2CV
      @peugeotCitroen2CV  4 місяці тому +2

Hi, its generally not something i do at the start of the video but i am aware some videos do discuss the tools used.
In general i will try to remember what i used here
      Socket sets
      - 1/4" drive
      - 3/8" drive
      - 1/2" drive
Teng tools are a good brand, its what i bought when i started out working on cars, still have them and they are really good sockets. Teng tools anything i like because my grandpa used to keep them on his farm and they were about 30 years old. I have since invested in the odd bit of snap on but thats unnecessary unless you really have thing for snap on tools.
      1/2 breaker bar
Impact wrench is a milwaukee M18 1/2 drive. Then it needs a set of impact rated sockets to deal with the forces the gun generates.
The clutch alignment set is a sealey

Pry Bars - i think what i have are either draper or parkside
      Screwdrivers - mostly teng tools
Pliers - mostly teng tools although also some lidl parkside stuff which is surprisingly good
Axle stands are a non descript brand my motor factors sell
      Oil drain pan
Jack - Halfords do a good floor jack with a foot operated lift function which is worth looking at.
      The engine cross brace
The lower arm puller is a tool i made based off what i could see in videos of a laser branded one, but a bit of solid round bar or box section might suffice.
Thats a very haphazard list of what tools i could see quickly skimming back through this video, if there are any tools you want to know specifics about or a bit of a review feel free to ask away ill try and help.

I know to adjust a worn clutch you turn the adjustment wheel towards the battery to lower the biting point but if I go the other way do I risk lowering the clutch biting point too much?

@@peugeotCitroen2CV hi there, yeah i read about that, read here. oscaro.media/catalog/images/pdf/350/inf12216_gb.pdf
I have mine in the garage and I'm trying to make a correct diagnose: rattling sound when in neutral and in gear at a stop, higher clutch engaging and other issues. That appeared suddenly from a traffic lights to another- I will let you guys know. Or maybe you can help me out. I didnt watch your video now i have to go, see you soon guys.

@@peugeotCitroen2CV So here we are. I counted a LUK clutch kit for my issue.
Today I inspected with expertise (with another person pushing the clutch pedal) the clutch release lever and as I saw now in your very well edited video is half rusted cooked. This part is not common to snap but I saw in forum that can fail ( c1oc.co.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=4934 link here). I'm planning to change this spare part also, and with that the fork too, as well not common but there have been a case of fracture. (140 € for the lever and about 100 € for the fork! damn!). If I'm going to do this I will before treat the lever with an anti rust spray like Zync one or similar valid alternative.
Please peugeotCitroen2CV your opinion about the topic means a lot for me. What do you think about that? Feel free to say anything. Wish you all good work.

I am sorry but i dont have enough experience of working on these cars, never came across the broken fork issue just heard about it in conversation, i had thought it had been fixed by a recall.
The uprated fork in that bluepoint link you shared earlier, any chance of getting one second hand?

Not really, you will be working around the gear linkage cables at some stage anyhow so its not an issue. There is nothing to be 'timed back up' as long as each respective gear linkage cable is put back in the correct place (there is only two and its hard to get them wrong due to their different shapes) it should cause no issues.

Im not too ‘au fait’ with what other parts will work, as toyota would not be what i work on often.
If its the 3 pot yaris engine I wouldn’t be surprised if they used the same clutch and gearbox, might be slightly uprated with different ratios. Owners clubs/forums the best place to ask. The standard aygo clutch is probably okay but its just that most get used by learner drivers that they suffer a bit more

You just need to remove lower arm , you can easily access the cv shaft and put to the side . Without removing both cv shaft . The rest is a pice of cake

Seen it done before leaving the cv shafts attached to the hubs, but personally prefer to remove them its something less to fight with trying to get lined up when putting the box back in.

Dude, you a perfectly functional lift, why not invest in a transmission jack so you don’t need to lie on the floor with a transmission on your stomach…?

    • @peugeotCitroen2CV
      @peugeotCitroen2CV  2 роки тому +1

At the time i made this video i did not have an engine support brace. The weight of the engine was supported by the floor jack that appears at 15:40, at this height there was not enough room to use the transmission jack which at its lowest setting would go to about 800mm.
I know there are floor jacks with transmission adaptors but for a car this small it was just as handy to crawl under and remove it by hand, not the heaviest gearbox there is and i am not particularly strong.
