- Welcome fellow Colourist's to a new series. Simple backgrounds for adult colouring pages.
I will show you step by step how to create a background for any of your adult colouring pages. I also hope this encourages you to #useyourstash of art materials you already own.
In this video we will be doing three simple backgrounds using Faber Castell Gelato's
The Gelato is a creamy stick of water based pigment. It is a versatile medium and can be applied in a few ways. I will show you my most used application methods. Please remember I am not a professional artist I am a Colourist. These videos are the way I complete my personal adult colouring pages.
If you have used Gelato's in your backgrounds comment below your favourite method of application.
If you have a back ground you want to see demonstrated, please leave a comment so I can add it to the series.

Very nice. It does look like a slow process. I do like how it turns out for the backgrounds. Thanks for the video.😊
Thanks Melissa, once you get going it is quite fast…. Compared to paining or coloured pencils anyway 😅
Very nice. Thanks so much for explaining gelatos. I’ve never tried them. This was very informative.
Thank you, happy to share info 🖍️❣️
Thank you for sharing! Love them all , definitely trying the tape on the stencil hack.
Thanks you, washi tape works well if you don’t have painters style tape.
Hello Jody, Sylvie Chomiak here, I love this series you have done with the different mediums. Such a pleasure to watch your channel always . Hope spring will bring you many blessings. Have a great week.😊
Thank you Sylvie, hope you’re doing well thank you for the positive feedback. I hope you find some interesting ideas for your own background 🫶🏻
@@jicolourist Hello Jody where did you get your stencils? I am having a hard time finding some, Thank you
@@JacquesChomiak Hi most were from Amazon, the planet one came in a set of clouds. If you search for stencil variety package on your countries Amazon you should find some there.
@@jicolourist thank you Jody, sorry this is Sylvie C hoping you have a great week thank you for the suggestions I will check it out.
Happy Sunday, Jody! This was a Wonderful and Informative Video. The Example Backgrounds are Very Beautiful! Thank You so much for Sharing 💜💜
Have a Great Week!😊
Thank you for the feedback. I hope the series is useful 😊🖍📚
Yes, for anyone looking for Background Ideas, this is Absolutely Wonderful!
I need to try the makeup brushes. I’ve been using finger sponges, but I haven’t been able to get it as smooth as this. Aqua Dolce is my fave gelato colour! ❤
I started out using my finger for smoothing, but since I began using the brushes I love that method. So much easier to apply and the blending is smoother.
great ideas! Thank you.
Glad you like them, thank you for watching 🫶🏻
Nicely done! I love seeing how others use their mediums. The cat pic is adorable!
Thank you Pixie
Thank you Jody, I'm really enjoying your series on backgrounds. I need to practice these ideas in my books. I have started collecting gelatos but haven't used them yet!😜
That is great Cindy, I look forward to seeing some of your completed backgrounds on Instagram!
I have to get on instagram! I haven't done that yet🤪
Amazing Video
Thank you, I hope this series sparks some ideas 😊
💗💜💗
Thanks Laura ❣️
Great video Jody! You inspired me to use the set of metallic Gelatos I have on a page that I've been working on. I'm interested in purchasing the pastel set of Gelatos but I'm having trouble finding them for sale at a reasonable price in the UK.
Thats Awesome Laura, I will watch out for your picture on Instagram 👏🏻. Faber Castell is from the UK so I would hope that things go on sale periodically, and you can find them at a good price 🤞🏻
I hope so, although I believe that Faber-Castell is a German company. I know that Derwent is UK based, but I'm pretty sure that Faber-Castell isn't.
Hi Jodie, new to your videos. Thank you so much for your video on how to use the gelatos . Do you happened to have a link to the Tim Holtz media mat? Having trouble finding a non glass one like yours pictured
Hi, and welcome to the group. The tim holtz mat is temper glass. The sheet is a plastic cling on sheet used on top of the glass. If you look on Amazon or craft stores that carry Tim. Here is a USA amazon link (not affiliate) www.amazon.com/Holtz-Replacement-Palette-Glass-Cutting/dp/B07BB3JLV5/ref=sr_1_5?crid=D4QLL756EEXI&keywords=tim+holtz+media+grip+mat&qid=1701441168&sprefix=Tim+holtz+media%2Caps%2C239&sr=8-5
@@jicolourist Thank you so much, I have much to learn!
Hi Jody great video 😊 thank you for sharing was very interesting. I have not tried gelatos. Would there be a set you recommend to start with?
Hi Cindy, I would recommend buying a multi pack I have found the pastels most useful for backgrounds. So if you were buying them for backgrounds may want to start there
Ok thanks Jody😊
I was wondering, how do you clean the dry brushes that you used in the beginning? To get the color off.
Hi when I am all done I wash my brushes with a brush soap and water and let dry. You can also just rub your brush off on a dry cloth or paper towel until nothing rubs off. I do this method when I am still planning on using the brushes that day.
